JVP split
JVP split flushed out racial elements – Hakeem
SLMC leader Rauff Hakeem told reporters today the government engineered JVP split has flushed out racist elements from the party and he hopes it will bounce back with added vigor promoting its original moderate policies. According to the public perception, what Hakeem says is true, definitely, there are two factions one is working according to the LTTE agenda financially sponsored by LTTE agents and the other is anti LTTE. According to their own statements made by two different factions in the JVP, there is a sharp disagreement on political opinion between two groups. One group insists that fundamental rights of the suicide carders lodging in Colombo to be preserved and they oppose eviction of unauthorized dwellers in the cities. Same group further insists on complete disarmament of Tamil election candidates in the East who are obviously at risk of facing suicide attacks and destruction just as the Tamil politician Minister Jayraj Fernadopulle was targeted recently and the other group is against such a move. These differences in opinion and the two different agendas promoted by two different groups seem to be the problem according to the statements issued by two factions. General public accept the fact that two groups can have their own rights either to support the LTTE or to support Sinhalese Bikshu fronts and PNM. They have their own right to take what ever the sides and take decisions according to their own personal preferences. However, the public is concerned about the implications of such agenda, whether the public is exposed to suicide attacks just as in Dhambulla and in the Fort Railway station recently. Public is also concerned whether the Eastern province which was liberated sacrificing many lives of the armed forces as well as that of the government officials would be handed over to the terrorist sympathizers again. Public is worried whether there will be permanent peace or further violence by promoting a separatist terrorist group and their agenda. Those are the main reasons why nation is watching these events carefully, wrong direction taken by a political party can have disastrous consequences to a nation just as it has been observed in the year 1971 and late eighties where several thousands of youths were killed due to promotion of an insurgency.

"The recent attacks on dissidents and a PNM activist may make one wonder if the JVP goon squads have begun their warm-up exercises. Sporadic attacks being carried out by JVP goons are a portent of things to come. They are, as a popular saying goes, only a group of whip crackers, and perehera (procession) is on its way!
