Words Of Intent By The US To Continue Isolating The LTTE Can Only Be Effective Should The LTTE Capitulate!

Once again words of intent have been uttered by the USA and the accords to continue isolating the LTTE as an illegitimate band of terrorists have been set in place and renewed but the decision can only be effective and fully consumated if the LTTE respond to it in a manner conducive towards Peace within Sri Lanka where they will not continue to pose a threat to National Security or Territorial Integrity and thus far this does not seem to be the case!

The logical conclusion therefore must be that despite countless accords of non- recognition and illegitimacy against the LTTE by the USA or any other Nation they would be of little worth if the LTTE continued to ignore them and the real effectiveness of these accords could only be proven if implemented towards subjugating the LTTE and not by pandering to them.

There also seems to be a double standard in the attitude of the US where the LTTE have been informed of a resulting legitimacy if they renounced violence and terrorism where an exception has been made only to them and not to the other violent terror groups in their blacklist where the LTTE have caused great destruction to the Sovereign Nation of Sri Lanka and its people over decades and punitive action against the perpetrators has to be a mandated condition especially in the case of the upper echelon of the LTTE and its infamous leadership, so has the USA forgotten something of prime importance in addition to promises of legitimacy as a condition towards relenting?
Furthermore has the US softened its stance on this single terror group whereas their attrocities have been equal or perhaps even greater in intensity by way of deliberate ruthlesness, sheer numbers of lost lives and the areas of damage to property than some of the other condemned terror groups, in order to promote a concept for peace in Sri Lanka which is not something a Nation as perceptive as Sri Lanka would ever accept as long as the LTTE are recognized in any form! In principle what the USA are saying seems to sound like tolerance with a willingness to forgive whereas the greater implication rests on criminals being brought to justice in the pursuit of peace and something the USA can ill afford to ignore!

The USA therefore needs to really put their monies where their mouths are and go after this terror group with the same intensity with which they pursue Al Quaeda ,Hamas, Abu Sayyaf and the rest of them as effectively in the event that their warnings are not heeded which would prove the ultimate legitimacy! The mere refusal of visas, freezing of assets and warnings to anyone associating with the LTTE seem like denying a child its candy by comparison to what really needs to be done in order to discourage the LTTE from continuing their attrocities veiled though they may be at present and the US should know better than any other world power what it takes to subdue the LTTE now that Major General Janaka Perera has assumed diplomatic duties rather prematurely!
Knowing the devil may care mentality of the LTTE, the US decision though meritworty on paper to the Nation of Sri Lanka probably is ' zilch ' and of little consequence to the LTTE and their responses and attitudes which probably are more of laughter and ridicule rather than standing to attention within their inner sanctum and their responses may well be known in the near future as they continue their existence and activities with gay abandon and the call to Peace continues.

Their idealogues such as Thamilchelvam have indicated with his arrogant stance and imprudent rhetoric of defiance which leaves little to the imagination that the LTTE will ever capitulate to the demands of the USA unless substantiated with a forceful follow up added to which the Government of Sri Lanka which has factually compounded the issue by leaning towards LTTE demands in the past and are presently hanging onto the tigers by their tails are seemingly without propriety or incentives to quell them!
That the US would be prepared to deal with the LTTE as a legitimate political entity as soon as they "renounces terrorism and ceases terrorist acts" has been noted although an alternative to what might transpire should they not comply seems to be the million dollar question and as such seems to have been inadvertently or conveniently forgotten!.
