Are The Cracks Within The UNF Already Beginning To Surface?

There seems to be a great deal of 'scuttling going on within the Administration to keep its house in order as of late. Curiously The Bishop Of Mannar too has thrown in his venerable posturing towards what he seems to believe is moral support towards the Wickremasinghe Administration which hopefully is not floundering in deep water as the case appears to be as it is bad for the morale of the Nation as well as the likelihood of it promoting the glee of the LTTE who are more than likely to capitalise on the confusions of a wayward Administration. Fortuitously, the venerable Bishop's indiscretions( He has no real business to dabble in politics being 'A Man Of The Cloth' ! )are being countered by the dignity shown by the Maha Sanga in maintaining their decorum in all wisdom even though they have a Constitutional right to their opinions without overly excercising it!!

Then there are the political clowns such as the Thondamans, the Sivalingams and the Naveen Dissanayakes who seem to think that their Official Status is one that can be trifled with, in the manner they keep tending resignations and then changing their minds in a quick about face with their 'Jack In The Box Mentality' adding to the speculated weaknesses of the credibilities of the UNF but sadly a hallmark of Sri Lankan Politics which in fact toppled the previous Regime as political blackmail goes on unchecked and unabated within the infrastructure of Sri Lankan Politics regardless of which party is in power. In the case of the named individuals, they probably decided that discretion was the better part of valour as it would keep their bank Accounts Intact!! and relented on their resignations, hastily withdrawing them!!

Could these events be visible pointers of worse to follow? as logically it should be assumed that "What's Sauce For The Goose Is Sauce For The Gander" and if the PA administration experienced the ignominy of being pushed into a vacuum from which it never recovered due to the unscrupulous turncoats within their Organization, one asks, why could it not happen to the UNF as well? A point well worth pondering upon Mr. Prime Minister!.

Although it is a bitter pill for the Administration to swallow, regardless of the manner in which it was 'swept' to power, it is becoming painfully obvious that it has taken on an unsurmountable task in its attempt to resolve the Nation's many faceted problems beginning with the internal armed insurrection of the LTTE which is now becoming a major issue for which an almost non existent panacea is being sought after, and in all the wrong places. Mercifully the Presidential Authority which could easily dictate terms in an extreme situation is maintaining a calm and supportive perspective while keeping a watchful eye and cognizant with the modern day reality of annual sojourns of any ruling party which is almost a 'Default' Factor in the realms of Sri Lankan Politics thanks mainly to the Founding Fathers of the Modern Constitution.

In a very appropriate manner, the intellectual advise being levelled at the Wickremasinghe Administration from many quarters albeit a few insignificant exceptions of dissent suggests a rational but forceful approach towards National Issues with no betrayal or compromise of Security and Integrity, advise which now appears to come from many corners of the Globe and should the apparent cracks in the Administrative Infrastructure widen as a result of indifference towards fortifying National Issues in the pursuit of a transparently undefined Peace Process where the benefactors are Foreign Powers and Aliens rather than the Majority Sinhalese population together with the other minorities which constitute Sri Lanka's Multi-Ethnic Mosaic it could project the Nation into further recession, insecurity and back to Square One where little or nothing in the way of progress would have been acheived as the Administration would then have to concede their weaknesses and hence the inability to continue!!.

This indeed is a time where any sign of weakening within the Administration has to be cemented and any bad patches permanently effaced and a testing time where stringent measure if needed, to ensure National stability should be taken even if it means jettisoning the 'trash' within which brings more disrepute than recognition towards redressing National Issues. The Administration certainly appears to be badly in need of a clean up where many undesirables who have infiltrated into its core through sychophantic means are the real cause for Adminstrative cracks, so let the crackdown begin towards repair as disintegration of the Administrative setup seems to be looming on the horizon.
