US Affirmations Of Non Recognition Of LTTE And The Change Of Power In India Much Grist For The LTTE Mill.

It is hoped that the LTTE will eventually get the message that their continued confidences which lead them to misguidedly believe that their exaggerated professing of power, toughness and arrogance will not be to their advantage and that it will never bring them world recognition. In reality it is turning out to be a hard sell and a mere presentation of bravado according to many areas of political analysis and finally the USA appears to have confirmed its veracity providing much grist for the LTTE Mill!

In the recent talks betwen US Deputy Secretary of State Mr. Richard Armitage and Sri Lanka's Foreign Minister Mr.Lakshman Kadirgama, Mr Armitage has been quoted as saying unequivocally that"the United States will not remove the LTTE from their list of terror groups until the LTTE gives up arms forever and unless they do so they will not have any chance of having any relationship with the United States" end quote, which is nothing new from any perspective relative to the policies of the Global Coalition Against Terrorism which was initiated by the USA but unfortunately its truism and impact appears in need of constant dinning into the hard headed mentality of the LTTE idealogues particularly their political representation which carries on in the manner of the "Emperor Who Wore No Clothes" totally oblivious to the realities of a Global Concept which will never accept any terrorist organization towards any considerations of acceptance as long as they maintain their terrorist image unrelentingly! Mr. Armitage is not the only US representative who has expressed these sentiments as a former US Govt Represenative Mme. Rocca recently visiting Sri Lanka has also leaned in a similar direction in making known her opinions about the path to peace In Sri Lanka which cannot accommodate fully armed terrorists as mediators on behalf of their community.

There has been great clarity and deep intent in the press statement by the US Deputy Secretary of State which entailed emphasis on the theme that, quote" The US has never supported the LTTE in any way and has not given aid to the LTTE at any time and that the aid given to the people in the North and North East of Sri Lanka have been channeled through the NGO and other organizations not the US Government " end quote and speaks volumes for the attitude and stance of the USA just in case the LTTE are about to release another of their false propaganda messages to the contrary. The facts are simply too stubborn that their options are being narrowed down rapidly to an imposition requiring an about face LTTE turn around to accommodate international demands in the direction of relenting, giving up arms and idealogies and any continuations towards fortification of their terrorist drive in order to be recognized even marginally as representatives of the Sri Lankan Tamil Community which at present is one of proselytised definition which they have forcibly assumed through intimidation and subjugation of the real candidates such as the EPDP where there could be other forces within the Tamil Community likely to raise their heads in unity against the connivances of the LTTE.

Despite the rhetoric of the LTTE towards cleaning up their image the world continues to be aware of what goes on under their mantle of subterfuge which at times has been cleverly designed to obscure the truth, as the issue of Child Soldier recruitments was higlighted in the dialogue which ensued between the representations of the USA and Sri lanka in the recent talks in Washington together with the all important issues of continuing political intimidations, violence and breaches of the Ceasefire and Memorandun of Understanding by the LTTE conveying the simplest of messages to the LTTE that their continued actions against the grain of peace loving mainstream Sri Lankan Society and the violations and disrespect to the Sovereignity and Territorial Integrity have not gone undetected by the world's most powerful administration.

It augurs very well for Sri Lanka that the USA has indicated much confidence in the newly elected UPFA Government and the President of Sri Lanka and has sent a message to the LTTE that they have continued to disentitle themselves towards any recognition as long as they choose to retain their terrorist image while also conveying to them the importance of the continued mediations towards a lasting peace which the LTTE could never hope to accomplish or be recognized as the sole reporesentatives of the Sri Lankan Tamil Community as long as their shenanigans continue. Perhaps a matter of great predicament to the LTTE leadership who probablty sees no role for himself realistically within a pluralistic yet completely Sovereign Sri Lanka and hence his defiance where the remedy probably lies withiin his own reckoning depending on the hindsight and wisdom which goes into it!

There have also been US reiterations in setting the record straight that contrary to media speculations that the Left leaning JVP which is now a core fortification of the UPFA may not be favourable in the eyes of the US Government, it is obligatory for the USA to recognize the JVP as an integral part of Sri Lankan political power as they have had a mandate from the people of Sri Lanka which the USA views with much respect and something which will hopefully disillusion the propagandists who broadcast the issue towards their gain, in particular the LTTE idealogues who have made attempts to create international rifts even by way of proxies to this effect but have failed miserably relative to the latest US dialogue which must be interpreted as an international affirmation, all things considered and a shot in the arm for the UPFA and Madame President Kumaratunga.
Then there is also the unexpected turn of events on the Indian Political Horizon with its New Political Hierarchy which sooner or later will be expected to renew headhunting for the LTTE Leader and cohorts of its upper echelon wanted by the Indian Administration as well as Sri Lanka and Interpol which will greatly compound any LTTE expectations towards continuing in their terrorist guise much longer and the more advisable option, one of laying down arms, denouncing all their policies which continue to present them as internationally condemned terrorists seems inevitable.

The Voice Of America from more than one source has spoken resolutely towards the perspective of what response is needed from the LTTE as required for a lasting peace and surely Sri Lanka's Friendly Giant to the North India also has a stake in it by way of eventual involvement in Sri Lanka's Peace Process !
