A Choice Of Wisdom Is A Choice For Freedom And Prosperity

Longing for the Election Campaign to be a clean one and not one of vicarious mud slinging which cheapens the entire concept of campaigning is a pipe dream of sorts in Sri Lanka today, even though some candidates are upright and astute , many others seem to be sadly lacking in scruples, a backbone and decorum. Especially those who jump from pillar to post in search of their own uplifting and personal aspirations rather than the well being of the Nation.

Politics in Sri Lanka is not that much different from its overseas counterparts other than being of a feudal nature often involving slander and denigration of opponents which lends an almost morbidly jocund flavour to it but when the brickbats and curveballs begin to get personal and the rivalry tends to get unhealthy it becomes painfully aware that the feudal nature of the politics is mainly due to the arrogance of political hierarchies that have been set in place generations ago, taking themselves for granted and ones which have stood for many decades swinging in the manner of a pendulum, at times out of control and very typical of the opposing political parties in Sri Lanka today.

In the end, it is the population which decides the issue of selection for representation in Parliament and in the case of Sri Lanka a very assertive and perceptive voting population which has been made painfully aware of the diversities existing amongst rivals yet struggling to evaluate proper priorities due to the never ending scenarios and charades tantamount to denigrating their opponents even though the accusations and innuendoes are baseless resulting in mass confusion. The Masses Must Not Be Confused

The advent of the New Age Young Political Parties, infused with a fervour of Neo-Nationalism and Patriotism seldom seen in past generations however has changed the political climate of Sri Lanka and put into perspective what the country really needs, in the form of integrity, honesty and selflessness and the response of the rural masses to the New Age Politicians is gaining in momentum. Oppressed for years through corrupt administrations a sudden awareness is beginning to dawn on the masses of the dark deeds of past Bureaucracies so dominant in years gone by yet abjectly corrupt and hence detrimental to the nation and the very insecurities created in these Bureaucracies by the new entries into Sri Lankan Politics have given hopes for the future.

Betrayers of Democracy, Deserters from Political Responsibility and most importantly, collaborators with terrorists have no place in the projected Global Society within which Sri Lanka has a rightful place, and the long and arduous road to reconciliation with human needs in a free society appears to have many pitfalls in the form of corrupt politicians disguised as the alternative to the present Administration as their scruples reach beyond Nationalism and Patriotism and the well being of the Country and there is every likelihood of Sri Lanka being thrown into further turmoil through Memorandums of Understanding with terrorist groups.

Even though the Election Campaign may not be exemplary nor ideal, the choice for representation in Parliament as the Governing Party has to be a righteous one justifiable only through dedication towards Nation Building and supplementing the needs of the impoverished and the final selection should be from candidates with a proven track record of their sincerity and loyalty towards preserving the Nation not destroying it!
