Impetuous ISGA Demands By The LTTE As A Precursor To Peace Unacceptable And Contradicts The Peoples Mandate.

There seems to be a somewhat toned down and circumspect Governmental response towards the latest dialogue involving the Peace Process as though it was the LTTE calling the shots over an incumbent, duly elected Government where all their rhetoric points towards unconditional acceptance of their Interim Self Governing Authority ISGA by the UPFA Administration as the precursor to Peace in Sri Lanka as though they the LTTE were in any position to lay down conditions or bargain with the Sri Lankan authorities when they should be viewing their options with caution rather than carrying on as though they had any mandate towards any concessions being the unrelenting terrorists they continue to be outlawed by world consensus and proscribed by most of the world's leading nations.

Norway the entity once thought of as a discard in as far as the peace in Sri Lanka was concerned seems to have returned to haunt Sri Lanka once againand manifest the worst nightmares of the Sri Lankan people and the appeareance of openly gay playboy Eric Solheim into the fray ( who was not surprisingly could shouldered by President Kumaratunga much to Norway's chagrin!) somewhat tarnishes the credibilities of those who still prefer to palaver to this unbecoming personality of dubious repute while the powerful JVP faction of the UPFA continue to lobby somewhat diplomatically for the exclusion of Norway from the Peace process recommending India as the viable option. A proposal which needs great paying attention to at a time when there can be no compromises extended to the LTTE who are beginning once again to prove their real intent in demanding their terms as the spectre of their projected Eelam by the year 2010 documented by LTTE 'soothsayers' in the not too distant past, looms in the realistic minds of the analysts and something all of Sri Lanka would perhaps be better off paying attention to rather than prevaricating about what approach to take in dealing with the LTTE and their demands which is not a matter demading kid gloves but assertion, direction and authority by the Administration, in conveying to the LTTE ! who really is in charge in Sri Lanka ? while also bearing in mind that the LTTE of late have represented themselves as being a spent force headed towards oblivion! as they continue to cut the image of a sorry bedraggled band of disillusioned terrorists!

There is also a worrying concern on the part of many that the Nation's leadership and Parliamentary representation exclusive to some factions seem to have prioritised the International Aid Packages and Financial Pledges as the greater incentives towards peace and the ultimatums of the donors towards initiating a lasting peace over the imperative obligations towards the people's mandate which swept them into power and issues on which the past elections were fought and won, namely the preservation of Sri Lanka's Sovereignity and Territorial Integrity, the primary needs of displaced impoverished people and restoring the rights odf all Sri Lankans overlooked by the previous Administration and woe betide any inadvertent misconception by the Government which may lead to the LTTE gaining any authority towards their objectives by way of any misguided concessions granted hastily towards appeasing aid donors and world opinions that peace has to be accomplished at any cost which is what the moral of the present LTTE demands concerning their ISGA is all about.

A Deja Vue of left over indiscretions paradoxically relative to the previous administration's misgivings which led to their demise it is hoped not!

It was only just recently that the Hon. Foreign Minister of Sri Lanka was quoted in all wisdom as condemning the ISGA as a ladder towards secession and the newly elected Administration in India too has not minced any words about what the LTTE to them pose as a regional threat and there should not be even the slightest semblance of doubt towards considering present LTTE demands as impure and unacceptable and short of reminding them of their status as outlawed condemned terrorists with no bargaining rights the only options available to them are to bend to international pressure towards relenting their terrorist past, laying down arms, handing over their criminally liable leadership Pirapaharan and his equally liable cronies to the authorities searching for their indictment for crimes against the Sovereign Nation of Sri Lanka and the assassination of a beloved National Leader of Neighbouring India and all the embelishments which go with the title 'Public Enemy No 1 and consorts at the end of which justice and due process would be ensured and the rights of all Sri lankans restored beyond redemption which would justly encompass those of the minority Tamil community at the helm of the Sri Lankan peace process together with the majority Sinhalese and all other nationalities to whom the continued harranguing of the LTTE has now become a consternation! bearing in mind also that they do not represent all of the Tamil Community as an important factor towards dissuading them from their present demands!

The high flowing LTTE rhetoric now suggests "institutionalising' ISGA proposals whatever that means in LTTE dictum which cannot be construed as relevant or logical to the Peace sought after in Sri Lanka other than a misconception of sorts by the LTTE pundits such as their political representatives Thamilselvam, Balasingham and their ilk whose definitive and interpretative skills while being dubious enough seem to lean heavily in the direction of Eelam objectives alone and an assesment of the Sinhala Nation far beyond their realm of attributing capability, whose resolve never to relinquish what is theirs by way of inherant majority right as well as constitutionalised statutes which will stand in the way of LTTE ambitions for an eternity, an outstanding one!
