Sri Lanka has become an Evil Nation???
Recently I went down to Sri Lanka from Japan, thinking that Sri Lanka has become a better country after lapse of four years.
To my surprise I found it to be a living hell; with people complaining against one another and eventually to the government. Even among my own relatives I saw the same thing; where people will talk face to face very smoothly to one another but behind each ones back they will jab each other metaphorically with sharp instrument.
In other words they will back bite each other. I reckon, it to be a character among all Sri Lankans. I think I too am not separate from it, but innately inherit it from the environment.
If I decide to go down and live in Sri Lanka this inherent character will pop-out like a flower to the sun.
It may be due to psychological peer pressure. Since I am out of the Sri Lankan community, I could see many dark spot in it now.
Long time ago, I remember speaking to the former presidential candidate; the late Mr. Ossie Abeygoonawardne, and he said to me that there is away of solving this ethnic problem.
If the government could bring into legislation, an Island wide conscription; requesting all youth to serve in the armed forces for a period of three years, then all the politicians will wake up, because their children will have to serve their country in active duty.That means sending them to the north to fight.
He said, "this will not happen". In other words statesman/stateswoman of our country are not patriotic. I think this is an historical fact.
When colonial powers came to the Island; Sri Lanka was not a united country. If I recall my history correctly, we were divided into five kingdoms. It is unbelievable to many foreigners; an Island as the size of "Hokkaido" an Island of northern Japan, to be divided into five kingdoms.
History seems to be repeating itself, as long as we Sri Lankans learn to harbor dishonesty and cut-throatism, we will stagnate where we are and remain pungent to the rest of our lives.
Sri Lanka by nature is beautiful, not with human wasp and pythons that roam in it.
