Situation in Sri Lanka

When I go through the articles on this web site I can feel the patriotism of all those who have contributed.

As truly patriotic Sri Lankans , the biggest and immediate task that has to be done is to make the Sri Lankan Govt, the PA and the Opposition UNP realize the gravity of their follies and make them change their attitudes & policies; Make those in Power realize it is they who can bring about a change for better by taking full responsibility.

It is sad to note that when UNP was in power they were blaming SLFP,JVP for all the ills of the country. They never took the responsibility to themselves. People of the country were so fed up and that's why they put PA to power, but sadly PA is doing the same thing, putting the blame on UNP for every disaster. Why can't these leaders realize that they themselves should be held accountable? Is it ignorance or dishonesty ? Don't they realize that they are only earning disgust from the general public by doing so? Whom can the Sri Lankans look up to for a genuine resolution of the country's problems?

In addition to terrorism, the next evil that is dragging Sri Lanka into an ever deepening precipice is the unabated corruption ranging from dishonest ministers, top bureaucrats and others down the ranks who are pandering or using these corrupt elements for their personal gains. How many billions of money & resources have been wasted by these people? Can a poor economy like Sri Lanka afford to waste so much?

And it is the general public who are paying dearly for the sins of this corruption by way of taxes, surcharges and increased tariffs. Don't these politicians and corrupt officials have any conscience? To burden the general public of Sri Lanka who are finding it hard to have a decent meal, feed their children due to soaring cost of living.

I feel so sorry for all the hardworking honest Sri Lankans who have to undergo a thousand hardships for no fault of their own. CAN SRI LANKA EVER COME OUT OF THE TURMOIL IT IS IN, THE WAY THINGS ARE HAPPENING NOW? WILL IT BECOME ANOTHER PALESTINE?
