Maradana police ordered to release 33 identified bodies

The Additional District Judge and Chief Magistrate Maligakanda Mr. A. L. M. M. Sahib who held the Magisterial inquiry into the Maradana bomb blast on March 5, yesterday directed the Maradana police to release the 33 identified bodies to their next of kin.

The close relatives of the 33 dead persons yesterday gave evidence before Court and said that they identified the bodies at the Police morgue before the Magistrate. Witnesses said that they died following the bomb blast at the Maradana junction.

The 33 bodies identified were those of S. A. Wijesiri, T. D. Padmalatha, K. D. Jayatissa, Soyo Woosu, P. A. Indraweera Wijetunga, S. Keerthiratne, E. D. Prasanna, Sergeant M. A. D. Ajith Seneviratne, W. A. Anura Rohana, Sarath Dissanayake, H. P. Jinadasa, Sujeewa Nishantha, P. H. Wijeyasiri, Lalitha Kumara Liyanage, K. A. Somapala, Nihal Ranasinghe, Sergeant Pradeep de Silva, Samsuna Nihara, Thaigarajah Vignarajah, Riyasa Ericas, M. R. Mohamed, M. K. R. Ireka Harshani, M. M. A. Fershan, K. Wijendra Perera, T. L. Peiris, Liyanage Santha Priya Samaranayake, B. N. Fernando, Mohamed Mahahook, T. Mohamed Shabdeen, S. Nagalingam, B. Mohamed Rashad, Ruwan Prasanna Perera and N. D. A. Sarath Kumara.

The Judge also directed the Maradana police to conduct investigations into the bomb blast and file a further report to court.
