Dear Editor,

I have read two articles of Upasiri de Silva, Sydney, Australia and I hasten to agree whole heartedly with him. Furthermore I would like to add a few supporting points.

1. As stated quite clearly, the question of Sri Lanka being divided cannot and will not be considered. Period

2. The next, who is Prabhakaran? Does LTTE represent all the Tamils or just a bunch of hyped-up, blood-thirsty terrorists who are using violence as a smoke screen to print money for themselves?

3. Why should a Democratically elected government led by Chandrika BK even think of negotiating with a self-elected bandit, who has crowned himself as the next King of Nadu, and addresses himself as (sic) "Honourable"?

4. What mandate has VP got and from whom and how many Tamils to call himself the leader of Tamils?

5. LTTE claims 15% of land and sea-shore mass of Sri Lanka as a propotion of the number of Tamils in Sri Lanka. Do all the Tamils claim this view? And if and when (God forbid) LTTE gets their 15%, would all the Tamils move into NE? LTTE claims that Sri Lanka is a Tamil Island. Where did the Sinhalese come from? And should LTTE take over the Island, where do they expect the Sinhalese to go to? By the way, any of the readers follow the TV series "The Planet of The Apes?"

6. As Upasiri has quite correctly stated, there are more Tamils living in Malaysia, Singapore, Fiji etc by percentage (%). Have these Tamils ever thought of demanding their own independent State in these countries?

7. What about Tamil Nadu? If LTTE ever got what they wanted, Tamil Nadu will be next. What will happen if Tamil Nadu decided to declare themselves as an Independent State? What reaction would they receive from the Indian Government? LTTE has already hinted that should India favour the Sri Lanka government policy with a military solution, LTTE will hit at the Nuclear sites in India.

8. Is it the intention of LTTE led movement to spread their "cancer" to other countries where there is a large Tamil community, to start a International Federation of Tamil States?

9. Is it correct that LTTE machinery is already planning a mass immigration (5-10%) of Tamils from Tamil Nadu to cross the Palk Straits if they forsee any weakening of Government policy? Imagine another 3-6 million Tamils moving into Sri Lanka, then claim 50% of the Island!

10. What about the Sinhalese traitors who are funding the LTTE and supporting, promoting helping to drag on the war, enriching themselves on the flow of human blood?

11. Why cannot CBK invite foreign military advisors for a limited period of six (6) months with essential modern weaponary, helicopter gunships for air support of ground troops, gunboats to blockade of territorial seawaters and take out LTTE once and for all?

12. As a peaceful alternative, why cannot CBK consider the suggestion placed by Professor P.B.Silva -"The Third Alternative - A Commercial Solution"?

13. If in the past, the Sinhalese Kings drove the powerful Tamil armies back to where they came from, with all the International opinion of legitimate governments in favour of CBK, why cannot CBK drive a bunch of very professional terrorists out to the sea?

14. What is wrong with the SL Army and Security Forces? Are they not trained adequately? Do they receive the proper motivation and leadership demanded during a state of war? Are the Top Brass officers upto the level of VP?

15. Why cannot the SL Government, its Minister, Diplomats and indeed the Sinhalese expatriates (I have purposely excluded Tamil expats because, in every country they reside, they are promoting the Tamil cause) give open and unreserved support to the Mission of getting rid of the LTTE vermin?

If the Sri LankanTamils are not prepared to accept the Sri Lankan Constitution as it is, where Tamils are accorded equality as citizens, Tamil is a national language, most of the Colombo Tamils are enriching themselves on the blood and sweat of the Sinhalese, then as a free democratic choice, they are FREEEEEE to leave. Canada is prepared to take on more Tamils. France, Germany, Sweden, Netherlands, UK, Finland are sympathetic towards Tamils.

They can enjoy European Union priveleges and move within 15 different EU countries freely. BBC has a lot of sympathy for Tamils. Several of their top presenters James Coomaraswamy, Nisha Pillai, Keshini Navaratnam etc are enjoying top slots. (Soon they might change the name to TBC!)

As far as I am concerned, any ethnic group, nationality, colour, creed may live in Peace in this tiny Island of Sri Lanka. It was only for a short time the SWRD / Sirimavo Bandaranaike led governments went over the top with Sinhala / Buddhist nationalism. That is politics. That is history.

No elected leader in Sri Lanka will ever lead a racist oriented government now or in the future. Let us look at the international scene on how they react to Terrorism!. Did the British government sit at a negotiating table with the IRA or their political wing Sinn Fein until they renounced violence and terror? NO!

Did the Israeli government sit with the PLO until they stopped their terrorism? NO!

Did the Turkish government negotiate with the Kurdish terrorists?

NO!They caught Abdullah Ocalan, tried him in Court and sentenced him to death.

What action did the Americans take when their Embassies in Africa were bombed?

They took immediate military action against the Taliban.

Did Vladimir Putin try to reason out with the Chechen terrorists when they attacked Moscow and Petersburg?

NO! He sent helicopter gunships and reduced Grosny to the ground!

What actions did the international community take when Saddam Hussein declared war against Kuwait?

The American led military sent hundreds of Scuds into Bagdhad! See other examples-; Kosovo, East Timor!

It is about time, Your Excellency Madam President, that You led the Country from the Top!

By now You should have realised that "Negotiations" DO NOT WORK! VP is not an educated man.

One cannot reason with a person who refuses accept or does not comprehend reason! Stop wasting 5-10% of the GNP on arms, weaponary and shedding of the blood of poor Sinhalese soldiers.

During 18 years, over 80,000+ Sri Lankan citizens, both Sinhalese and Tamils have paid the price with their lives. Over 500,000 innocent lives were ruined as a direct result. It is estimated that the country has wasted or lost over US$ 25-30 billion due to the terrorism.

This calculated on the purchase of weaponary, losses in foreign investment, losses in revenues from tourism, losses to infrastructure.

Think of what the country could have done with this amount of money? Okay a few "mudalalis" and government sponsored middlemen and henchmen earned US$ 2-3 billion, which are funding some of their life styles. No one in one's right frame of mind would ever consider negotiating with terrorists!

The international community might protest. The UN might convene the Security Council. So what?
