Panic, Censorship and International Bluff?

By D.K.W. Dias

Sri Lankan State requested material military assistance from what she thought were her friends to combat terrorism in a democratic country. Only assitance it received was from the U.S. in the form of moral support which led to the proscription of LTTE as a terrorist group that is inherently menacing to international civic order. India summerily banned LTTE because the Indian Judicial system found the Terrorist leader guilty of assassination of India's former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi. By not taking drastic measures against LTTE terrorists India passively aid and abet these terrorist to please its Tamil Nadu politicians who openly support LTTE. The best case in point is the endorsement of of Indian Defense Minister Fernandez given to LTTE. India was the training gound and launching pad for terrorist attack against Sri Lanka at the very inception. The U.K is still aiding and abetting these terrorists under pretext that LTTE does not violate its laws which is a ridiculous arguments in the era of international cooperation. Of course a group terrorists who operate from a host country will not openly violate its laws. But close scrutinty will prove that LTTE has violated every law in international sphere in assassinating government leaders and killing innocent civillians. If the argument holds no country has Jurisdiction against Lokerbie Criminals whom the U.K and U.S. fought tooth and nail to bring to justice by imposing sanctions on Lybia.

After the loss of Elephant Pass camp, many international institutions like AI, ICRC, Medicines Sans Frontieres and countries like Norway, India, and U.S. and the U.K. flock to the crisis like vultures looking at a dead animal.

Justification of the concern is civillians. All these countries and groups have forgotten the fact that civillians in Jaffna led a better life after Sri Lankan forces liberated Jaffna from the grip of LTTE terrorism and its megalomanic leader Prabhakaran who ordered every family to give at least one child to him for his terrorist cause against the state.

These so called humanitarians have forgotten, the fact that Prabhakaran send in these children as suicide carders to penetrate defenses of Sri Lankan military. They are orderd to carry the maximum amount of explosive wrapped around them to penetrate the firing line of Sri Lankan army. As long as Prabhakaran has this human base to tap as suicidal caders he will march forward. On the other hand a professional army is not on a suicidal cause. They attack where they are strong, they retreat where they are weak.

A panic has been created by these groups and countries saying that they are concerned of civillians and a possible humanitarian crisis. These very same groups and countries are least bothered when these terrorist kill hundreds of civillians in Colombo. They do not even condemn those acts. They are indifferent to the fact that their countries are being used as launching pads for fund raising arms dealing, and human smuggling whose earnings flame the LTTE campaign in Sri Lanka.

Even the U.N secretary general was helpless when Burundi and Ruwanda conflict erupted which killed one million civillians. A reasonable mind would be puzzled by these selective humanitarianisms.

Why all of a sudden this enthuciasm to intervene in Sri Lanka's internal affairs. To all these panic mongers and peace vendors and humanitarians, I would like to say this. No there is no panic in Sri Lanka! No the Trincomalee habour is not for sale! Even if military has to pull completely back from Jaffna there will not be a problem because Sri Lanka did not obtain the support of these humanitarians when Sri Lankan forces chased LTTE from Jaffna. Only temporary setback is Sri Lankan military will have to begin the campaign from the drawing board. With a good leadership who holds nation above self and not corrupted will liberate the entire nation from this menace.

To this end, a country with a greate tradition- China had openly said that Sri Lanka does not need foreign intervention but material support to fight terrorism. Hence Sri Lankan government should get all the material support it needs from a country like China which clearly see the problem as a terrorist problem not a humanitarian project or ethinc problem.

Sri Lanka with a country of self respect should politely request these humanitarian vultures to stay away until the problem is solved.
