Dear Jerald, Thank you for this valuable contribution of yours. It is nice to see native Americans having an interest in matters about Sri Lanka. There will be for sometime LTTE sentiments expressed in the comments sections of articles. I am a Tamil living in UK, and I never accepted the murderous LTTE as the sole representative of Tamils in sri lanka. The present government is acting on behalf of every citizen of Sri Lanka, not just Sinhalese. Some tamils still keep ranting 'genocide', 'catastrophe', 'humanitarian disaster of unimaginable extent' etc. The propaganda machine has been misguiding foreign born tamil children and youth over 20 years. So, it will take time to undo most of it. I think new tamil politicians will be able to work with the government for the benefit of the whole population. When that happens the diaspora children will start thinking about the dead tiger. There will be a lot of anti-tiger tamil information sources in the future, now that the terror is gone. The Western governments will clamp down on the LTTE remnants, especially in the UK when Conservatives win the next election.

While there is some merit to what the author has written - I'm sure much of it is parroted from readings across the web - the suggestion that there should be any sort of racial quotas like this 12% rule reveal the very kind of racism that has led to this sorry state of affairs in the first place. Nothing can be gained by perpetuating polarization between the Tamils and the Singhalese.

you know you are right...you have no say in any of the situations down in srilanka
just for the fact that you are married to a sri lankan woman that i believe is sinhala...doesnt give you the right
to assume that your judgement on the tamil people is correct, yes that fact of the matter is you are a racist...
12% of the population of the srilanka is tamils but just because the population is so much smaller, doesnt mean
that genoicide must the solution, to what the government believes as to killing the territorists. Innocent lives are killed everyday on either end of the speturm, yes a tamil is a tamil.. but saying that they only associate with their own kind...honestly makes you look like a fool! In my opinion i suggest you stay out of something that has nothing to do with you or your people, your comments i personally look upon them as cruel and not insightful. You might put your creul comments out there and believe it doesnt affect people, but if you ever come across the horrors of what the tamil and sinhala people face everyday you would wish you never commented in such a manner. Its not a war between the people, honestly back home i lived around sinhala and tamil people they live in harmony, what you need to realize its a fight between the government and the freedom of the tamil people, not the people themsleves.
