Sybil Fawlty

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ I came across the following about you and thought of sharing this with you, in case no one has shown this to you.

David, this is the time to show that Britain means what it says. You were very concerned about the trapped civilians and went to extreme measures such as threatening Sri Lanka with sanctions. You convinced Hilary Clinton to delay the IMF loan to Sri Lanka. You warned the world that there will be a bloodbath if the Western world does not take action against Sri Lanka.

Now that all those events are behind us how about we do something to show the world that we truly cared about those people? I am yet to see any statement from you or your colleagues stating that the West will immediately provide support for the displaced civilians in Sri Lanka. Guess what, China and Japan were the first countries to come up with real help for these innocent people who are going through tremendous hardships due to the unfortunate war.

Come on David, let’s show the world that we British do care about victims of war. If you continue to keep silent about this noble cause, you certainly would miss the boat and it will reinforce the fact that we are a bunch of useless …(you know what I mean!) who only talk and do nothing at all.

Best regards,

Sybil.

David’s mini-silly band

The band members are a French Bernard playing the drums, an American Rodham playing the trumpet, a Viennese Legger playing the violin and the bandmaster mini David playing the mouth like a grinding organ. This silly band has only one boring tune that is truly very flat and repetitious. “Ceasefire”, “negotiation”, “human rights” “humanitarian law”, “R2P” are among their constant irritating refrains. Little Sri Lanka heard them all without flinching. Yet refused to pay or play their tune when the hat went round for the collection with robust demands for it to comply. Little Lanka knew that the falsetto voices of these egocentric grandees were not genuine and accompanying music was merely a lullaby to appease the Tiger in his den of iniquity and his acolytes in the western capitals. That Tiger is dead as a dodo and only the foolish will still back him now.

Bandmaster David probably does not know that his ancestors did not conquer this country. They could not defeat our valiant soldiers, some of whom had only bows and arrows to defend themselves against the British army. They obtained Sri Lanka fraudulently by signing a piece of paper wherein they obligated themselves to perform many duties. They reneged on their promises, and subjugated this country and imposed their rule on Sri Lankans. Little Sri Lanka has had first hand experience of the trickery, duplicity and deceptions practiced by the foreign usurpers of power in our country. So our mini David should not be surprised or angry that his music was unappreciated and discarded in this country. This will continue to be the case until such time that he and his band stop their ceaseless, meaningless tune and listen to the new music emanating from all over this island.

This land is a free land, it is truly a sovereign country, it has defeated comprehensively a terrorist group groomed and secretly supported by some western countries. It is now one country with one flag and one democratic government. Though many races live here, there is in reality only one people-Sri Lankans. They live by the laws passed by their elected representatives in Parliament. They are determined to sort out the differences and disagreements among them by discussion and compromises and to oppose all foreign impositions. They are friends of all countries even the lands of the Mini-Silly-Band.

Of course there is at the moment a huge humanitarian problem of displaced people due to the activities of a megalomaniac terrorist. It was on behalf of these people that the western world as well as the Mini-Silly-Band was singing dirges and lamentations with copious tears. Well, as genuine supporters of these hapless people, they should now open their purse-strings and help these people to get back to their homesteads and earn their living and live like other Sri Lankans. This is the new Sri Lanka and the chorus emanating is sentimentally that from Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana “Ecce gratum et optatum ver reducit gaudia: purpuratum floret pratum, sol serenat omnia, iam iam cedant tristia! (behold the pleasant and longed for spring brings back joyfulness, violet flowers fill the meadows, the sun brightens everything, sadness is now at an end!). May all those who slander this country stand condemned.
