I hope the Tamils of Sri Lanka will have the good sense to find local leaders who are not beholden to the Tamil Diaspora or need to be propped up by foreign governments to give them true leadership and protect their interests. The sight of TNA MPs rushing off to India for consultation and assistance from the government in New Delhi and the politicians in Tamil Nadu has been most unedifying. In fact, no Tamils are entitled to question the loyalty they have for the land they live in and the parliament they serve in. The Tamil Diaspora should leave the Tamils in Sri Lanka to sort out their political problems. What the Diaspora can do usefully, if they in fact care for the Tamils in the island, is to help them improve their economic lot. All in Sri Lanka, especially the Tamils, are well rid of the LTTE. Its manifestation in a new incarnation - still driven by the same people - cannot be any better than what we have just got rid of.
