Deputy and minister Tissa Vitharana, president of the Committee of Representatives of All the Sri Lanka Parties, demanded immediate liberation of the five Cuban anti terrorists jailed for almost 11 years in the United States.

We are profoundly upset over the US Supreme Court rejection of the appeal of The Five, expressed Vitharana, Science and Technology minister in a communique.

The report informs “the false case against five innocent Cuban patriots who were gathering information on terrorist actions against Cuba has been condemned by the entire world.”

Vitharana pointed out that it is the only trial in US courts that has been denounced by the UN Human Rights Commission.

Fernando Gonzalez, Rene Gonzalez, Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labanino and Antonio Guerrero were arrested in 1998 and tried three years later in Miami for warning Cuba of violent action plans of terrorist groups in southern Florida.

The process took place under a tense anti Cuban environment worsened by local press and radical groups.

Vitharana, an important figure in politics in Sri Lanka sees with positive sights that US president Barack Obama is making efforts to correct the international relations of Washington.

He can strengthen confidence in good intentions if he adopts immediate actions to free the innocent five Cuban men, suggests the parliamentary leader.

He also demanded that Washington grant visas to Adriana Perez and Olga Salanueva to visit their husbands according to international law. / PL
