Asoka Weerasinghe Kings Grove Crescent . Gloucester . Ontario Canada

To Jack Layton, MP (NDP member for Toronto-Danforth) Leader of the New Democratic Party (NDP) House of Commons, Ottawa

Dear Jack:

I appreciate your courtesy to send me your Statement on Sri LankaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s Black July of 23 July 2009.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  It was another amazing expression of your innate lack of understanding of Sri Lankan affairs.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  If the intention was to claw the Tamil votes of the GTA from the Liberals, then I wish you luck.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  I think this might as well do it to a point.

Permit me to deal with your first and last paragraphs of your Statement, which have all the hallmarks of being a Simple Simon when dealing with Sri LankaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s internal affairs which you think you have a right to meddle with.

That riot of July 25, 1983, hurt every Sri Lankan: Tamil, Sinhalese, Muslim, Burgher and you name it.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  And with every other provocation by the now defunct Tamil Tiger terrorists there were no repeats of such a ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-pogromƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ as you wish to call it.

ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-A government launching a massive, orchestrated pogrom against its own people is a shameƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚, you said.

Did you ever pause for a moment to find out why this Black July riots (ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-pogromƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚) happened, Jack?ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  Of course not.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  Your vote greedy bullishness would not let you give you that intellectual freedom to probe to understand the facts.

HereƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s why!

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ If not for the ethnic cleansing by Tamil Tigers of 27,000 Sinhalese from the Northern Province between 1971 and ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ 1981where they lived for generations, while a million Tamils claimed their right to live anywhere in the south and the low-caste individuals enjoying the privilege to walk into a Kovil and pray to their Hindu deity without being told by a high-caste Tamil to stand outside in the scorching sun to pray; if not for the 400 Sinhalese undergraduates and lecturers in the northernƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  Jaffna University campus being stoned and chased out on 17 August 1977 by the Tamil Tigers, while Tamils enjoyed being undergraduates and lectures at all the Universities in the South of the island sharing the portals of knowledge with theƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  majority Sinhalese students and not being stoned and chased away by them in retaliation; if not for the Tamil Opposition LeaderƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s wife announcing publicly that the happiest day in her life would be the day when she would thump a tom-tom draped with a Sinhalese personƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s skin and that no Sinhalese politicianƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s wifeƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  announced her wish to beat a tom-tom wrapped with a Tamil personƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s skin; if not for the ambush killing with four road mines of 13 Sinhalese soldiers at Tinnaveli on the Palali-Jaffna Road on July 23, 1983 by 25 Tamil Tiger terrorists in battle dress and armed with SMGs (machine guns), repeater shot guns and T-56 Chinese assault rifles, ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ whose bodies were brought to Colombo for burial, those riots would have never, ever happened.

Be honest, Jack.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  Did you know all this?ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  Or have you been brain-washed by your Tamil constituents and you have difficulty to change that mind-set?

So Jack, letƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s cut out your blatant, blanket attack on the Government for this incident.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  The Tamil Tigers pushed their envelope since 1970, and were prying and digging at the emotions and patience of the Sinhalese and finally the bubble burst after 13 years of restraint. It is that simple.

Your last paragraph says, ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-Canada can and must do more.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  We can be a strong voice for peace on the global stage.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  Children in Sri Lanka need us to take up that responsibility today.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  We must prevent another Black July from ever happening againƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚.

For GodƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s sake Jack, where the hell were you and your NDPiers, when the Liberals let the Tamil Diaspora collect two million dollars a month for 13 long years to stuff the Tamil Tiger war chest to buy weapons to fight this war.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-Canada can and must do moreƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ you say.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  Jack, you got my goat.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  Canada was the problem all along and the 32 million of us Canadians have Sinhalese blood on our hands, when we Canadians were the proxy killers of 114 people and maimed 1,338 others with explosive materials, 10 tons of hexogen, a plastic explosive like Semtex and 50 tons of TNT bought by Tamil Tiger sympathizers from the Rubezone Chemical Factory ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ in Ukraine with a ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ 7 ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚½ million dollar cheque cut from a Tamil-Canadian account in a Vancouver Bank.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  These explosive materials were used in a truck bomb which brought down the Central Bank BuildingƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ in the heart of Colombo on January 31, 1996.

ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-We must prevent another Black July from ever happening againƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚, your statement said. ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Now that the most ruthless terrorists in the world, the Tamil Tigers were wiped out on May 18 by theƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  valiant Sri Lankan Armed Forces, the chances of such a Black July happening again is quite remote.

Nevertheless Jack, the Tamil Tigers provoked the Sinhalese hoping to repeat a Black July happening when they attacked the most sacred Buddhist Temple of the BuddhaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s Tooth Relic ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ in Kandy on January 25, 1998, with high explosives destroying its faƒÆ’†’ƒ”š‚§ade, killing 12 people and injuring another 13. They hoped that the Sinhalese would go berserk and destroy their ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ famous Hindu Nallur Temple in Jaffna.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  The Sinhalese did not bite the bait, and there was no repeat of a Black July ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”pogromƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢.

The Tamil Tigers tried it again hoping that the Sinhalese would barge into a Roman Catholic seminary and shoot and kill the young novice priests in retaliation for the deaths of 33 novice Buddhist monks who were pulled out from a bus and shot and killed at point blank range at Arantalawa on June 2, 1987. Another Black July did not happen, as the Sinhalese did not bite the bait again.

Jack, you did not know all this, did you, when you made that smart Alec comment, ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-We must prevent another Black July from happening againƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚? You failed to figure out who the catalysts were of the 1983 Black July riots.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  ThatƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s a damn shame.

I have no reason to try and polish your halo over you head, because you are no saint even if you try to walk the streets in a SaintƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s costume on a Halloween night.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  I wonƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢t buy your show of sympathy for the Tamils as you have selfish motives for your humanitarian concerns.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  After all, you are the politician who insulted South AfricaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s Nelson Mandela by comparing him to the late Tamil Tiger leader Velupillai Prabhakaran during a Pongu Thamil celebration at QueenƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s Park.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  This was a terrorist who was a coward refusing to bite the cyanide capsule when he was cornered by the Sri Lankan Armed Forces on May 18, but expected his cadres to bite the cyanide capsule to evade capture by soldiers, and many thousands did ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ and died, andƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  the majority were child soldiers under 14 years of age.

You might impress the Tamil Diaspora with your political shenanigans supporting the Toronto Tamils and I am sure they see you asƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚¦.

ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-Little Jack Horner, who sat at a corner, eating his Pongu Thamil pie. He pulled out his thumb and pulled out a plum and said what a good politician am I.ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚

When it comes to dabbling in Sri LankaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s internal affairs, you NDPier fail the grade by miles. I am sorry to say that you guys and gals are the pits!

Oh, by the way, you said, ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-Children in Sri Lanka need us.ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Good for you, Jack. ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ I know you as well as the Liberals are nagging the Conservative government to bring the Internally Displaced Tamils from the Northern camps to join their relatives and extended families in Canada.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa of Sri Lanka has made it easy for you all to siphon these Tamils from the camps in the North.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  He announced on July 2, that he would allow the Canadian Government to set up Immigration Consular offices at the camps to process these applications.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚

Now is the chance Jack to win more Tamil votes and bolster your voter bank.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  Go after this opportunity. ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Siphon all the Tamils to your hearts content.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  Give them a patch of land ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ somewhere in Ontario preferably around Scarborough where they have established their Little Jaffna, and ask them to call it their Canadian-Eelam.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  Make it aƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  truly Fairy Tale ending so that these Tamils who thumpedƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  and blocked the ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ busy streetsƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ three months ago, carrying their Tamil terrorist flag, some even pretending to be fasting to death, so that they can live happily ever after in their Canadian-Eelam.

I say, go for it.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  It is a win-win situation.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  They come here to Canada and you gain a Tamil vote and who knows you might add a few seats in parliament the next time around, thanks to the Tamil votes.

Sincerely,

Asoka WeerasingheƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚

  1. Priyantha Abeywickrama Says:

What has to be done must be done when required

I do admire the facts presented by Asoka in his article. Having read some other individuals repeating their version of history non-stop, I thought it is also a time to tell things that are not yet in the public domain. Most of the negative things uttered by people who see the events of 1983 and take the Tamil or their own concocted version are nothing more than self-serving propaganda lazed with their hatred towards Sinhala people. There are some individuals, some masked with Sinhala names, who also see it as a Black July. Interestingly these individuals do not have any thing to attach themselves to or claim ownership to any ethnic background, but mere migrants of multiple ethnic origin living like parasites in someone else’s back yard.

There is an infinite difference between dreams and the reality. What happened in July 1983 was a real response to real events. Now, everybody knows that Tamil migrants living in Lanka had an organised movement to grab the country and to destroy Sinhala native population. They used every conceivable means of achieving their goals, and encouraged and funded their agents in all parts of the country with a view to gain upper hand in economical, social, political and military aspects of life. Though I was one of those naive and stupid persons who stood to protect the lives of some so-called top level Tamils who faced dire consequences as a result emanating from their own diabolical plans under our own eyes, I am glad that there were others in the community, who saw and understood their conduct and responded in appropriate kind to eliminate the future threat posed to our own lives.

    Sinhala Rebellion of July 1983

On hindsight, the rebellion of the July 1983 was an absolute necessity at that time though there are enemies of the nation who cry foul with it today. When we have an Anti-Sinhala and pro-foreigner government system operated by traitors and their associates with the full backing of the migrant groups, expectation of a peaceful and legal response to such an evil plan was not a reality, though there were some desperate acts to protect themselves from the threat to their own lives following certain events later. If not for that rebellion, considering the later events that are known today, we could have faced more devastating circumstances that are beyond our imagination. If not for that event, the scale of bloodshed could have turned the whole country in to a pool of blood. Comparing the recent conduct of Tamils migrated to western countries, having them among Sinhala population while their masterminds engaging in war could have made life a living hell even for those idiots who cannot understand the reality and related logics.

Fear is a tool available in nature to get rid of those who are not prepared to share life with, either a native or an invader, as the case may be. Tamils have a history running to thousands of years of committing heinous crimes against the native Sinhala community to kill and grab their land, and led to the ethnic cleansing of Sinhala people living in the northern part of the country as a result of unbelievable atrocities. Under such conditions, not just Sinhala people, even wild animals would respond in kind to meet such threats to stay alive. If we have not done that up to this date, we could have been an extinct species by now. So crying foul for some absolutely essential act to ensure survival is a natural right available to us from the beginning of the humanity.

If not for the 1983 rebellion, many more lives of Tamils and Sinhalese could have been lost later. On the other hand, Tamils who have gone to the west could have been living under totally different condition in Lanka today. Sinhala people should also be happy that there were people among them who did the minimum required to get rid of a life-threatening menace present amongst them. If not for this rebellion, Tamils could have done a more terrible damage that could have required more serious sacrifices to eliminate the threats posed to our own lives. We know by experience that death for some brings happiness for many others.

Recent events that eliminated the Tamil terrorists are also a good deed compared to what could have happened if the threat continued any further. Those who try to deny events that occurred under natural circumstance leading to such events should also think about the consequences if such events did not occur. If they have the wisdom, they would agree that what happened were always better outcomes than the other possibilities. I also like to mention that those who do not learn from actual events and change their way of living are asking for worse things to come in the future. Those continue to dictate/impress upon Sinhala people should understand that the kind of response in the future would be far beyond your comprehension given their ability to match those who threaten their survival.

Westerners – Canadians can do better than what they have already done

It is very strange to justify our actions to westerners. Does it make any sense in trying to justify killing in self-defence for those who engaged and continue to practice organised and well-planned elimination of humanity in massive scales with all the tools (good and bad) available to them blazing in all directions with impunity? Those who try to attach humanitarian labels to such mass murderers cannot have a brain, as do ordinary humans. While living on lands belong to someone else possessed by total annihilation of the native populations, preaching about humanitarian values is just a mask to further their own agendas by hoodwinking the gullible morons in other parts of the world struggling to hold on to power under despicable alienated circumstances.

Being born in to a system that give birth only to be part of servile (employable) human stock in the west, there is no way to make them understand the kind of hellish life they are inherited by birth. But for us, it is a matter of great concern to stop our future generations getting trapped in this evil mesh under the guise of development parroted by stupid and servile servants acting as our leaders. Those Tamil migrants living in the west championing dirty campaigns against Sinhala people should know that their erstwhile friends in the west are doing something that could have been never encouraged by Sinhala people, I mean, elimination of Tamilness. On the other hand Sinhala people should be happy for what westerners are doing for those ungrateful aliens who posed a threat to their survival biting their hands that fed them. Westerners and Canadians are in fact doing the dirty job of totally eliminating the threat that Sinhala people got away by the rebellion in 1983 without large-scale liquidation as done in the west. They do it in style enjoying every bit of it using more advanced and gruesome ways while using these migrants as complementary stock refurbishing their ever-dwindling pool of human stock under Slave-like conditions. Those who fear the so-called Diaspora should be patient and hold on to their guns for a few generations until westerners finish their job to the perfection.

Those who wish to live should understand that life depends on their ability to take the life of those who are a threat to theirs. This is not just true to an advanced civilisation like ours, but for all the other forms of life that we see in the nature. Instead of becoming extremists of any sort, whether compassionate in one direction or murderous in the other direction, we must maintain all our abilities to meet all exigencies that may come our way to ensure the future security of our existence. At the end, as the original civilisation that primed all the other ethnic offshoots, we have never threatened anyone else’s existence to this date. So there is nothing to worry or regret about our past conduct or the more severe acts with drastic consequences to those who threaten us that we may do in the future when forced upon us by nature.
