BASIL TELLS SEND OFF PARTY OF 9994 IDP’S TO BE RESETTLED IN THEIR VILLAGES THAT OUR RESETTLEMENT IS BETTER THAN SOME POWERFUL COUNTRIES IN THE WORLD

Sri Lanka is certainly doing better than some powerful nations in the world in resettling internally displaced persons since after seven year IDPƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s are still languishing in transport containers after Milwaukee floods said Basil Rajapaksa at a sendoff reception for IDPƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s at the Vavuniya Cultural Center.

Basil, the PresidentƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s younger sibling, who is in charge of Uthuru Wasanthaya Task Force, that removes land mines and builds infrastructure facilities like roads, irrigation, electricity, drinking water, health and educational facilities before IDPƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s are resettled was speaking before sendng off another batch of 9994 IDPƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s by CTB buses to distant places like Jaffna, Batticaloa and Ampara, from the government welfare camps in Vavuniya.

Parliamentarian and Senior Advisor to the President, Basil Rajapaksa said, ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-Some people who did not bother to give at least a bottle of drinking water to the IDPƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s are attempting to make a political mile out of them by mere slogans and shedding alligator tears over them.ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ He said the fastest resettlement of IDPƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s have been done under the guidance of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

He said the displaced are happily awaiting to return to their homes. Those who did not assist and made attempts to stop the flow of foreign aid are now shedding crocodile tears. He requested the people not to be duped by them.

According to government sources 6838 persons left for the Jaffna District from the Relief Villages while 2170 civilians left for the Trincomalee District. Another 274 civilians left for Ampara while 638 left the Welfare Villages for the Batticaloa District. Among them were 74 undergraduates. The number so far resettled is 19,360. 121 members of the clergy recently returned to their places of origin. This included 312 family members of the Hindu priests. The resettlement is possible with the de-mining of all areas and assuring their security. The required transport was provided for the civilians to return to their villages. Ministers Douglas Devananda, Risath Bathiyudeen, S.M. Chandrasena and Sarath Kumara Gunaratne, Northern Governor G.A. Chandrasiri and Eastern Governor Mohan Wijewickrema were present.
