We certainly do need a Patriot Act. There are people living abroad, not all of them Tamil, Sri Lankan by birth but now carrying other passports, who denigrate Sri Lanka while abroad. They buy houses/flats for their use when in Sri Lanka, which are more than keen to visit both to display their wealth and good fortune to the locals, and because of a certain yearning for what they had at one time, but no longer. Some are so racist in their views as to make Oswald Moseley appear like a pussy cat, but yet want to live among the Sinhala, while denying the same facility to the latter in areas that they fantasize should belong to them.

I met one such character, as retired doctor, (educated at no cost to himself by the Sri Lankan tax payer), a couple of weeks ago, and was shocked how he could so openly vocalise his rabid racism. Sri Lanka , sadly, allows these people to come and go as they please, when they should be barred from ever returning to the island. The dual nationality passport that they have obtained for this purpose, should not be available so easily. An oath of allegiance, and a probationary period of some two years, at the time this is granted would be a good start.
