Nothing will be gained by continuing to harp on this issue and demanding we get our pound of flesh in full measure. Sure, there has been no apology for the unfounded remarks of Hilary Clinton but in the ‘explanation’ since given by her government – however inadequately it may seem it is expressed – the fact that her statement was in error has been acknowledged. We must have the good grace to accept that explanation (as the SL government has done) and leave it at that. It must be uncomfortable enough for Hilary Clinton to discover she made a blunder. What point is there, except to get some sadistic satisfaction, to seek to compound her misery? And her government, whilst not saying so in so many words, has admitted as much, in seeking to ‘explain’ her remarks. That is as much as could have been expected - surely, you don’t expect the US to tender some humble apology. The SL government has welcomed the explanation. There the matter should rest.
