RESPONSE TO THE LITURGY CIRCULAR ISSUED BY THE ARCHBISHOP OF COLOMBO IN OCTOBER 2009
Posted on November 14th, 2009

A group of concerned Catholics

We are a group of concerned Catholics, who feel that the Liturgy Circular issued by the Archbishop of Colombo early in October gives rise to several important issues, some of which have a potentially serious adverse effect on the Church in Sri Lanka.

The attached document (which was finalized after much thought, reading, discussion and prayer) sets out, and responds to, some of these concerns.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  Our aim throughout is to be faithful to the Word of God and to our call as Christians.

Early in November, we sought an appointment with the Archbishop, to discuss these issues personally.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  However, we were informed that the earliest available appointment possible was in January 2010.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  We also sought publication of the following article in The Messenger (the Catholic weekly newspaper), but were refused publication.

Therefore, the attached document (which has already been given to the Archbishop and to the Auxiliary Bishop of Colombo) is now being circulated among Priests, Religious and Lay Catholics, with a view to bringing these matters to the attention of as many Catholics as possible.

If you share one or more of these concerns, you are encouraged to convey your views–preferably in writing–to the Archbishop; and also to circulate this document to other concerned Catholics.
