Representative Office of Sri Lanka

A special mass was held in Bethlehem on 21st Saturday to bless H.E. Mahinda Rajapaksa and Sri Lanka.

It was organized by the friends of Sri Lanka in Bethlehem in association with the Representative Office of Sri Lanka in Palestine and Sri Lankans in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. A large number of Sri Lankans working in Israel, the Sri Lanka Embassy in Tel Aviv and Representative Office in Palestine were present as the Mass.

Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Samuel conducted the mass and in his sermon he wished H.E. Mahinada Rajapaksa good health and long life. He noted that H.E. Mahinda Rajapaksa is a long standing friend of the Palestinian people. As far as Sri Lanka is concerned he stated that Palestinians are happy that there is peace in Sri Lanka.

The first tourist group that visited Sri Lanka in February 2008 was from Bethlehem. There are also a large number of Sri Lankan pilgrims coming to Bethlehem.

The mass was followed by a reception held at Hotel Casanova hosted by Miss Nuha Anastas and Dr. Munir Anastas on behalf of the friends of Sri Lanka in Bethlehem.

Dr. T. Jayasinghe Representative for Sri Lanka in Palestine thanked the Parish Priest and the organizer of the church mass Mr. Shomaly and wished for peace and prosperity in Palestine.
