The first anniversary of the liberation of motherland by the valiant forces from scourge of terrorism was commemorated at an event organized by theƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Sri Lankan Embassy in Kuwait on 18th May.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  A cross-section of the Sri Lankan community in Kuwait belonging to different ethnic and religious denominations joined the occasion in a spirit of national harmony and unity.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  The event commenced with the hosting of national flag in the midst of ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-magul beraƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚, followed by the playing of national anthem.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  The religious dignitaries and the representatives from Sri Lankan Associations, schools, airlines etc. lit the ceremonialƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  oil lamp.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ A 2-minutes silence was observed by all present inƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  memory of the war heroes who made the supreme sacrifice for the defence of their motherland.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ 

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ The welcome speech was delivered by Minister Counsellor, Mr. Sunil Sarath Perera in which he recalled the bravery of armed forces who united the country by defeating terror.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  Elaborating further, he spoke on the need to move forward with courage and determination to build a new era and to usher in lasting peace and harmony for all.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ 

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ The religious dignitaries present on the occasion conducted special prayers and invoked blessings on the members of the armed forces died in action and appreciated the steadfast and resolute leadership of President Mahinda Rajapaksa that paved the way for the liberation of motherland by defeating a three-decade-old terrorist menace that brought untold suffering to people of Sri Lanka.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ 

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Mr. Daniel Gamage conducted a Buddhist ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”anusasanaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ and invoked blessings of the noble Triple Gem on President Mahinda Rajapaksa and the armed forces.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  Mr. A.M. Indranesan, AttachƒÆ’†’ƒ”š‚© of the Embassy conducted Hindu religious observances followed by Rev. Father Felix Mellawarachchi, who recited scripts from Holy Bible and bestowed merits on the Government and people of Sri Lanka including the armed forces personnel.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Mowlawi,ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  Sheikh Muneer Mulaffer conducted religious sermons and offered prayers and blessings for the national war heroes.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ 

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Ambassador Sarath Dissanayake in his remarks appreciated the presence of a large gathering of Sri Lankans at ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ short notice, ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ which he said, is a testimony of their commitment and support to their motherland.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  He also spoke on the need to supportƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  the government under the leadership of President Mahinda Rajapaksa to bring about lasting unity, stability and economic prosperity.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  Ambassador also spoke highly of the generous contributions made by ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ the ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Sri Lankan community in Kuwait in kind and deed toward the families of armed forces and the needy.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  Speaking further, he appealed to the Sri Lankan community to continue to support such worthy endeavours in order to make Sri Lanka the ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-Wonder of AsiaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ as envisioned in the ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-Mahinda Chintana – Forward VisionƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ presented byƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  President Rajapaksa.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ 

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ The vote of thanks was proposed by Mr. D.M.P.B. Dissanayake, Counsellor, in which he briefed the audience on the sacrifices people have made in defence of their motherland and reminded them on the need to promote understanding, friendship and brotherhood among peoples belonging to ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ different ethnic, religious and linguistic groups.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  He thanked each and every one present for their support toward the success of the commemorative event.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Light snacks and refreshments were served at the end.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚
