ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Sri LankaƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  has every entitlement as reported in the foreign media to beƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  “deeply unhappy” at a move by UN chief Ban Ki Moon to name a panel to look into alleged war crimes committed during the final months of the island’s civil war, where the term alleged with respect accuracyƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ to becomes very significant and no more than a pre-meditated allegation.

As his predecessor Koffi Anan did on many instances, this is a baseless, unjustified and meaningless call based purely upon the hue and cry raised by diaspora Tamils overseas, some within the UN itselfƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ as well as the dregs of ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ defunct LTTE sympathisers raisingƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  personal biases based also on vested interests by the UN Chief as well as his Tamil cronies within the UNƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ who continues to repeat this call when the felt need for real investigations into criminal minded leaders and their high handed actions within their own regimes go blatantly unnoticed and are glaringly apparent.

One only needs to look at countries such as Burma, Israel, the US interferences into IraqƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ asƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ some examples which are a part of a long list globally and wonder why the likes of Moon keep persisting in harassing Sri LankaƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ in his moonstruck mentality no pun intendedƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ where the UN leader’s mindsetƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ seems transfixedƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ on this single issue of late.

It also tantamounts to political blackmail given the dependencies Sri Lanka has on UN Aid programsƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ regardlessƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  of which the Sri Lankan Administration should confront the UN and fight Moon’s hairbrained mentalityƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ while demanding tangible evidence towards his accusations where there are literally none except the concoctions of Sri Lanka’s adversaries which include certain internal sources from within Sri Lanka itself ever ready to denigrate Sri Lanka’s international image in total apathy towards their own impure agendas!

It seems fair to assume therefore that Ban Ki Moon’s ” Bull in a Chinashop “ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ mentality on this particular issue needs to be taken by the horns and settled once and for all at international level while reiterating theƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ protest made by President Mahinda Rajapakse made toƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Moon in March, that “The government is deeply unhappy with the appointment of this panel and made it very clear to the secretary-general himself and other UN representatives that this is unwarranted and uncalled for,” which it rightly is and another example of coerced meddling into Sri Lanka’s internal affairsƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  conducted with constitutional legitimacy and the requisites of International Law where Moon needs to be asked to take a hike or relinquish his duties voluntarilyƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ as he is taking on the appearance of a directionless UN leader with no substantialƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ objectives towards a better worldƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ other than to echo hollow sentiments of dissidents and call for unjustifiable actions against Sri LankaƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ for lack of better things to do!

Whether or notƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Moon was due to nameƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ a three-member panel to advise him on the massive military campaign that finally crushed the separatist Tamil Tiger rebels in May last year after decades of fighting becomes inconsequential if he is going to disregard official testimony to the circumstances with sufficient material witnesses and circumstancial evidence towards corroboration ( the Sarath Fonseka cacophony a non issue!) where the Sri Lanka Armed Forces were legitimately involved in mopping up operations to eliminate all sources of terrorism within the country and official reports of horrendous attrocities by the Tamil Tigers against both the forces and civiliansƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ which were the only crimes committed against humanity are shrugged off and ignored by the panel said to be appointed by the UN leader.

The war crime charges following the final offensive by Sri Lanka’s Armed Forces instigated mainly by the Tamil Diaspora and residualƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ illegitimate Tamil Tiger cellsƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ have been consistently and continuouslyƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ rejected by Sri Lanka’s AdministrationƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ as fabrications through concocted and doctored videos, pictures and satellite photos released by rights groups as evidence of war crimes and farcial at best as in these days and times such evidence is quite easy to create through the innovations of electronic technlogy and make it look like the real thing whereas it is a mere falsification.

It comes as no surprise that Sri Lanka’s President Rajapakse has warned BanƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Ki Moon that the appointment ofƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ any panel to investigate falsified allegations of war crimes would compel Sri Lanka to take necessary and appropriate action, although he did not give further details but could hinge on legitimate means which could easily embarrass the Ban Ki Moon who seems to be simply embarking on a moon shot without an appropriate means to launch itƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ illustrating the proverbial example of dogs barking at the moon and in this instance dogs barking with Moon!
