The Minister of Foreign Affairs,
Hon. Kevin Rudd,
Canberra, ACT.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Dear Sir,

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Sri LankaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s High Commissioner to Australia

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ A report in Canberra Times says the Tamil Diaspora in Australia has objected to the appointment of the ex- Sri LankaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s Navy Commander, Admiral Thisara Samarasinghe, as the next High Commissioner to Australia.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ http://www.canberratimes.com.au/news/local/news/general/war-crimes-cloud-over-envoy-choice/2055385.aspx

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ I believe the relationship between Sri Lankan and the Australian Governments is pleasant and amicable. The latest news bulletins emanating from Canada, France UK, Spain and even Australia have revealed active hardcore LTTE supporters who raised funds under the pretext of innocent looking organization such as TRO have used these monies to purchase heavy weaponry, sea and airborne transport to fuel the barbaric LTTE group in Sri Lanka to wage war against innocent people of Sri Lanka.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ These activities were spear headed by the most unsuspecting learned members of the Tamil Diaspora for a total destruction of a country. The arrivals of the asylum seeker by boatloads were a result of these members in connivance with the illegal human traffickers in the sub continent. These are not imaginations, but facts known to ASIO and TV producers of Dateline and Landline programs. The result was total condemnation of the Government by the opposition capturing a blessing in disguise for the opportunists!

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Your government engaged in discussion with Sri Lankan Government to arrest this situation, one of the participants in these discussions was this ex- Admiral. He has no blemishes in his Naval career, he performed duties any other Naval counterpart in a similar situation would execute.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ As he has now a retired officer, his government felt, he is best suited for the position of the High Commissioner of Sri Lanka in Australia. I believe Australian Government too should be satisfied to have a person of this caliber, whose invaluable knowledge can be a boon to tackle arrival of the exodus of the asylum seekers from Sri Lanka. His appointment to the mission in Canberra can only help to protect Australia from terrorists and other bogus affiliates of crime syndicates masquerading as refugees.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ It is indeed a pity if the Prime Minister or the Foreign Minister whoever has the power to decide who is suitable to receive as Sri LankaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s High Commissioner to Australia depends on a handful of disgruntled hypocrites of the untrustworthy Tamil Diaspora! Surely this is a Government of a developed country who can evaluate what is good for the country instead of unsolicited advice of a third party!

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Yours Sincerely

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Vajiragnana Warnakulasuriya

It is ridiculous to think that the Australian government will not accept sri lanka’s ex navy commander Admiral Tisara Samarasinghe’s appointment as the next high commissioner to Australia when the well known international war criminal George Bush was invited to Australia by the Australian government. Admiral Tisara Samarasinghe is a patriotic officer who defended his mother country against the most ruthless terrorist in the world where as George Bush was a liar who killed hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians.

I hope the current Australian Govt will not allow to be dictated to by any group, especially those moaning the death of LTTE terrorist leadership in SL. The LTTE is wealthy, influencial and now in the process of building up their numbers through illegal boat arrivals, and one day might be able to control elected MPs in marginal seats. But this should not be a reason to give in to their manufactured war crimes claims against someone who defended the country from terrorists. If both the Govt and opposition take a bipartisan position against these misleading lobby groups and depend on Australia’s own intelligence, then Australia will escape being controlled by them.
I believe, Australia should welcome a man of the calibre of retired Admiral Samarasinghe who not only helped a nation to rid itself of brutal terrorists but also in the last stages of the conflict assisted in the rescue of over 300,000 civilian hostages who were dragged as a human shield from town to town by the LTTE under most inhuman conditions.

The article which appeared in “Sydney Morning Herald” on 24/01/2011 was misleading. The funniest part was that a democratic government of Sri Lanka is treated par with LTTE remnants and its mouth pieces in Australia. The LTTE financiers are still active, but Australian Government will not be hoodwinked by these nefarious groups.
We are still waiting for arrests of ACID Attackers in Sydney…..We need to stand firm against all types of terror!

This is not the first time that some Tamils living in Australia have objected to the Sri Lankan government’s nominee of High Commissioner to Canberra. I seem to recall that they found the appointments of Major Dennis Perera and the late Janaka Perera just as ‘unacceptable’ because of their alleged involvement in human rights abuses and ‘war crimes’. But those appointments went ahead as I would imagine would, that of Admiral Thisara Samarasinghe.

There is a strong and articulate Tamil lobby in Australia, and Federal Labor governments appear to have taken a soft line towards, say ,declaring the LTTE a terrorist organization. But I doubt this lobby will be able to influence the Australian government in this instance. And let’s not forget that these lobbies don’t carry as much weight when there isn’t an election around!
