Dear Sir:

It was with disbelief and dismay that I read this news report that the GOSL “believes that the UK wouldnƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢t throw its weight behind those seeking to undermine post-war stability to avenge the LTTEƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s defeat in May last year”. Are they not aware of all the news reports in the U.K., world media and the local mediaƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ that members of the current Government, the Opposition etc. in the U.K. haveƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  banded together to represent the views of the LTTE rump in the U.K. ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ and are hell bent on crucifying Sri Lanka?ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ The Members of Parliament in the U.K. are interested only in themselves and pander to the LTTE Tamil vote to get elected. Proof of this wasƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ when David Milliband stated that he spent 60% of his time wooing the Tamil vote in the U.K. Today, Joan Ryan, a former Labour M.P. who regularly led the LTTE efforts when she was an M.P. is working for the Global Tamil Forum of the U.K.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  The British Government has no interest in helping Sri Lanka, is only interested in satisfying their Tamil voters and if it means dividing Sri Lanka to satisfy these votersƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ that is what they will do. This is the same scenario in the European Union, ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Australia and Canada, where a Tamil M.P. supportive of the LTTE, has lost no time to call for war crimes investigation.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  When is the GOSL going to wake up? What information are Sri Lanka’s representatives overseas sending back to the Government? I hope that least the media in Sri Lanka will forcefully bring this type of information to their notice. Please highlight that the millions that are in the LTTE coffers overseas are now directed at funding these Members of Parliament andƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  NGO’s such as Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch etc. ably supported by their paid servants in the NGO’s in Sri Lanka to convict Sri Lanka on war crimes and crimes against humanity. This was clearly illustrated in Geneva at the U.N. Human Rights session and can not be ignored.

The LTTE was successful in the international arena because of their focused, determined and well oiled propaganda machine which was not matched by the GOSL. From this news report it appears that nothing has changed regarding the attitude of the GOSL and that they continue to be naive, ill-informed and living in a world of their own as manifested by what is coming out of the Foreign Ministry. What have they done about the damaging Amnesty video, supported by the LTTE rump,ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ shown in GenevaƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  just ten days ago, calling for war crimes investigation? If they are serious about saving the country (and themselves) they should have by now called for an original copy of the video in writing, started an immediate technical analysis to verify the authenticity of the video by local and foreign experts and if it is a fake they should use some of the monies they spend on public relations firms overseas in a massive propaganda effort to get the word out to the world that this video, supported by LTTE funds, is false. When the original video was shown two years ago the effort to discredit it was weak and ineffective withƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ our representatives overseas looking frightened and defensive. It looks as if the same attitude is prevalent today. To just issue a statement that the video is a fake is woefully inadequate and will do nothing toƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ stop the gathering storm in the international arena against Sri Lanka.

While briefing Gooding about the post war development is a good measure and needs to be done, to expect that Gooding is going to make a changeƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ in the thinking of the current Government or the Opposition in the U.K. is but wishful thinking and ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ illustrates that the GOSL is naive and unable to grasp the enormous dangers to which they are exposing the country. It is high time that a task force be established that will concentrate onƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ the international implications of the LTTE efforts to get Eelam via the international community and that effective measures are established immediately to defeat the LTTE.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Inaction is not an option.

Yours truly,

I think GoSL needs to act now, before it is too late.

The great victory Sri Lankan forces achieved will not last if the government is not pro active against the LTTE propaganda and it’s paid agents in the western countries who relentlessly act against Sri Lanka. The time has come to stop celebrating the victory and tackle these elements by active diplomatic means. For that we need competent diplomats, not political cronies.

Thank you Ira once again for your words. We are indeed paying now for not having a competent presence for years in the key countries you mention. This must be at least now identified as the most urgent need for the survival of Sri Lanka. As a temporary measure SL should consider recruitment of PR firms etc locally from the relevant countries – London

Dear Ira De Silva, thanks very much your thoughtful article. I have over the years followed your input in Lanka Web, and highly impressed.

A no nosence approach to these evil doers from various western countries & from India are hell bent on tarnishing the conduct of our armed forces & GOSL.

I am happy to see your continuous impartial observations and would encourage to do so in future. Thanks again.

LTTE was created by the UK.
The LTTE is a monster created by the dark forces in London.
Sure they will thwart LTTE plans. Yes and Pigs will fly!
