ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ My sincere Congratulations on the Announcing of the Carbon reduction Package!
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ I am an Australian of Sri Lankan origin. I have a weakness of writing almost to all Parliamentarians on Sri Lankan issues when they talk, having listened to one side of a distorted story and passing judgments, although that countryƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s administration has some weakness, their justice system listens to both side of the story before passing a judgment. This is just a passing comment!
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Today my say to you is about the energy efficiency systems that is about to roll out to combat the carbon pollution in the atmosphere. This is not the first time I have contacted you on schemes that the Government initiated for the benefit of the masses to reduce carbon emission and the economy and importantly to save some money. One such advice was when you started the school computer distribution. I have feeling it fell on deaf ears! Still I can be happy for the fact, I made an attempt.
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ To listen to your package for carbon emission reduction with minimum discomfort to the masses was admirable. When implementing this ennoble scheme, you have to depend on the honesty of those are in direct contact with that particular industry.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Namely solar, thermal, geo-thermal, wind etc.
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Say two year back, you encouraged people to install Solar hot water system. On the surface this looks like a genuine solution to combat wasting electricity and gas excessive wastage. But in reality this is not a successful venture, it too was like pink bat insulator story though no life is lost, it only hit the hip pocket! Why am I saying this?
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Well I took the government incentive package to convert my electrical hot water system to Solar expecting a huge saving amidst my wifeƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s protest. From the day it was installed we didnƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢t have a decent hot water to shower, for more than A WEEK, WE HAD TO WARM WATER IN A KETTLE AND HAD A CAT WASH! Several times I complained to the company installed the system, each time I complained they arrived and did something and went away, but the result was the same. After several attempts they told me I have to redo the water pipes, a thing they should have told me long before the contract was signed after the feasibility studies that did not happen. Anyway, to have a comfortable shower, I had to upgrade the pipe system. After that the problem was settled, however it was not to the expected satisfaction.
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ When I converted to Solar hot water, I expected a drastic drop in the electricity bill that turned to be only a DREAM! Solar here means, direct heating of water from the sun, now if you have two solar panels carrying cold water in a pipe system around the panels, it is only the water that was in those pipes that gets heated up by the direct exposure to the suns radiation that does the solar heating, the moment you open up the hot water to shower and immediately after the sitting water in the pipes that is heated up is over in few seconds, instant cold water takes over to come from the shower until the GAS start to heat the water for the shower, heating by Solar is not effective at this moment.. Now you can imagine how Solar power has been helpful in the process. At this point the Solar heating is minimal as it cannot instantly heat the water traveling in the pipes of the panel, so gas takes over the heating job. Now I am in Victoria, I need not tell you about the solar content in that part of the country. I wonder how efficient these solar panels in Sydney or Gold coast as for me itƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s a total failure. Naturally if your electricity bill is not affected by the conversion the exercise is an utter failure. ItƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s no wonder peopleƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s disgust and frustration can be seen at the election time! The sitting Government has to pay for the deception of the consumers by the unscrupulous trade companies.
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Solar Electricity
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ItƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s appropriate to analyze how Solar Electricity helps to cut down oneƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s electricity bills!
- The starting point is having honorable solar electric supplier, distributors & trained trades personnel.
- When a request is made by a prospective consumer a feasibility study must be done.
- I believe itƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s an assessment of daily power consumption of the consumer that is to be considered for calculation.
- At first assessor has to get the figure that breaks even with the electrical supply from the grid to the consumer needs for the day. In other words consumer does not use the power from the grid for the day!
- Now the next step for the assessorƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s should be to calculate a figure that contributes back to the grid, so that the consumer reduces the bill straight away.
- At this stage the assessor must built in a factor as a buffer against for any unexpected usage that might takes place in the premises, in short the consumers contribution back to the grid must be made at all times.
- The advantage by doing so is, the power in the grid can be used for other purposes and if the usage of the grid is low straight way that contributes to the Greenhouse savings!
- In this case the consumer & the producer of electricity have helped to reduce the greenhouse emissions!
- For this to happen to the consumers satisfaction, their should be proper guidelines & checks set out by competent authorities well in advance to the commencement of rolling out of large scale installations.
- Taking the Pink Bat installation as an eye opener, the wayside operatorsƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ & shonky contractors should be weeded out using spot check officers who knows the technology!
- A very serious monitoring at the initial stage is a must to deter tradesman cutting corners!
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ThatƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s how the industry must install solar Electricity systems for the satisfaction of the community.
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ I believe you would take these advices seriously to avoid the future wrath of the masses!

What is the deal with Vajiragnana Warnakulasuriya, Melbourne the author of these articles every time she writes an article on lankaweb.com its in praise of Aussie prime minister or Cabinet & Parliamentarian MP’s. When I was in Australia I noticed this a lot amongst Sri Lankans living there. They want to be more Aussie than the Aussies! Yet most sound more Sri Lankan than the Sri Lankans! LOL. What is it about Australia that makes Sri Lankans living there lick Aussie boots at high speed? Like Vajiragnana Warnakulasuriya of Melbourne. She is not unique loads of Lankans living there are like that. Then it hit me. Australia is such a wonderful country to live in. Good climate, high standard of living. Well paved roads. Planned Cities. High standards of cleanliness. Well in that case I can’t really blame them. Australia is giving them a wonderful life. Heck if I was a Sri Lankan living in Australia even I might lick Aussie boots at high speed and praise the Australian Govt in everything just so that as a Sri Lankan I can continue to live in that most wonderful lands called Australia. Just don’t mention to the Lankans living there that your Aussie mansion and high standard of living was built on land stolen from the aboriginal people.

Tell how can a true patriot support a government that aided and abetted the LTTE? I know she is not deliberately doing it. She is doing it because of ignorance or does not have the intelligence to see it. Read my article carefully mate. I am a SriLankan living in Australia. I know Vajiranana he is full man. You assume him as a woman and also assume he is supporting Aus government. Just click the mouse on his name below “Upasiri De Silva” and you will see his past writings.
Some one asked you what is the matter with you – that is all – you started calling him (or her) IDIOT and gave a lengthy reply with hate, jealousy despite very very high intelligence of yours.
We are not very inteliligent people but we work here at the highest possible level and we do not “lick boots” of any one. We earn money ( even though it could be aborigine’s money) in the end with hard work and with honesty and send some money back home regularly. We also promote your country with love at heart – wanting it to become the best in Asia.
Please have some tolerence for us, we do like to discuss Sri lankan issues in your web site.

Nanda, I am actually of mixed background. That is my father is Sri Lankan and mother of another nationality and live in a another country. Hell I am so different to Sri Lankans in appearance that I am called a Suddha by the Sri Lankans. I certainly don’t look Sri Lankan. Because of my deep connection to Sri Lanka on my fathers side and because I lived there for a couple of years I have great affection for Sri Lanka. I saw first hand the great Evil that afflicted Sri Lanka called the LTTE. I don’t live in Sri Lanka except for a few years when I was a kid and I saw first hand the LTTE activities. As well as their strong connections to the UK and Australian Govts at that time. Which has been ongoing to this day even after they have been crushed. In fact it was just after the 1983 upheaval the UK and Australian embassies were filled with Tamils from the LTTE organization ready to flee Sri Lanka and set up bases in UK and Australia. I can tell you that the UK Govt and Australia Govt were more than supportive of these efforts!
Your right Nanda I am assuming about the writer purely from this article and other articles that were written by him. I don’t know him personally. So your right on that point. Is your father a tamil ?
Sorry for asking this question but your insistance of “licking boots” raises that suspision, because such act is foreign to Sinhalese. True there are some pandamas in Sri lanka but in foreign land only Tamils do this act. Even Sri Lankan tamils who mix with Sinhala rarely familiar with this western concept.
FYI , highest possible level is the level suited to our qualifications , intelligence , experience and ability to perform. Any foreign student in a foreign Uni will do some part time job like washing plates, taxi driving etc etc. These are honourable jobs, not licking boots.
With your unbelieveably high intelligence you must be super rich by now. So why are you jealous of Vajiragana and his manson ?

I am not jealous of the writer for anything just for this article that’s all. Plus I am tired of argument. It seems the internet is only a place for people to argue with one another rather than think deeply about our world who runs and how it is run. That’s all. If the writer is having a great life with a mansion in Australia. Hey thats great good luck to him. I am just putting a point of view regarding the Australian govt. Is that so wrong?
I am not jealous of you either. I hope you have a wonderful life too and enjoy your life in Australia. Despite my criticisms it is a great country. The aussies along with the immigrants there on the whole are very good people. I like them a lot. So no, no jealousy from me. I have many relatives who live there and doing very well. So I am very happy for you and the writer. Just don’t agree with the article here. Next time he might write a article where I am 100 percent in agreement. Like when he writes a more relevant article for focusing and criticizing pro ltte groups and propaganda in Australia.
