Ms. Navi Pillai, High Commissioner of the United Nations Human Rights Council,
Wilson Palais ,
52 rue des Paquis,
CH-1201, Geneva, Switzerland

 Dear Navi Pillai:

So another session of the UNHRC is coming to an end and your spat with Sri Lanka, I notice has spilled onto the streets, from the squared circle, and the Sri Lankans have taken their gloves off, and you seem to be getting bloodied.   Well”¦you have been spoiling for a fight for a long time and you have asked for it.

Your opening remarks, “The counter measures adopted by various countries to combat terrorism have frequently been designed with insufficient regard to human rights.  This has all too often led to an erosion of rights and fostered a culture of diffidence and discrimination, which in turn, perpetuates cycles of violence and retribution.  Sri Lanka is one such case.”  This whole misplaced allegation didn’t help your spat against Sri Lanka at all.   And I noticed that you did not mention the US.  That itself proved that you were not even handed with such an allegation. You came out of the bull-ring charging with your poisoned horns directed at the Sri Lankan delegation as if you had seen a red cape wrapped around them.  Phew!

“It may well be that each of Ceylon’s (Sri Lanka) attractions is surpassed somewhere on Earth; Cambodia may have more impressive ruins; Tahiti Lovelier beaches; Bali lovelier landscapes (though I doubt it); Thailand more charming people (ditto).  But I find it hard to believe that there is any country which scores so highly in all departments “”…” which has so many advantages, and so few disadvantages, especially for the western visitor.”  I didn’t say this Navi, it was Sir Arthur C. Clarke of the 2001: Space Odyssey fame who said it.

No wonder you are jealous of this little gem of an island having left behind your country, South Africa, where poverty tourism is at its peak that would take me to the outskirts of Johannesburg, and to the edge of Cape Town to visit the squalid townships around Soweto, where I will be shown in the safety of a tourist bus, the huts where people live without water or electricity and to imagine what cramped conditions your African people live.  Every one of your Africans who lived in those squalid conditions, I am sure would have done anything and everything to swap places with the 300,000 Tamils who were rescued by the Sri Lankan soldiers and housed in welfare camps and fed three hearty meals a day and looked after their every medical need and sent them back to their refurbished and new homes within 24 months, and not into squalid shanties as in Soweto.

Well, that is a reality check for you, my vindictive, arrogant Tamil lady.

I know, you still seemed to be vindictive having unable to stomach that the terrorists of your Tamil tribe, the Tamil Tigers of Sri Lanka, got militarily whipped and eliminated on 19 May 2009  before they could claim their separate state, Eelam.  Well Navi Pillai, I also realize that it hurts you more to know, according to what I have heard your distant nephew Velupillai (Prabhakaran) was shot dead at the Nandikadal lagoon having got caught even though he tried to camouflage himself trying to duck into skin-brown muddy water every time a bullet shot his way.  Tough!  I understand your pain.

But, then,  Navi Pillai, you too have an accountability problem with his demise.  You should have told this distant nephew of yours when he was growing up”¦Hey, Sinnathamby, if you are going to live by the gun, then you are going to die by the gun one day.  Stop this nonsense on terrorizing these Sinhalese and Muslim people.  You as a Tamil do not have a foot to stand on wanting your mono-ethnic, racist, Tamil state Eelam, as you cannot claim that prime real estate land  in the North and the East of Sri Lanka, as you have absolutely no right to claim, historically, ethnographically, ethnologically, and  geomorphologically.  Velu, stop being a dreamer.  Did you hear me?”

Little wonder why the Sri Lankan delegation told you under their breath with blatant anger, “Why don’t you shut up Navi Pillai.  We can look after our people, and why don’t you go back home and look after your people who are living in squalor in Soweto Townships! So talking about human rights violations during the last 5 months of the 336 month war that killed 100,000 of our people and they included your Tamil brethren, as all we did was to acknowledge the paramount right of a person in any civilized society and give back to our 22-million people their “ƒ”¹…”right-to-life’ by eliminating the Tamil Tiger menace who had hijacked that ‘right’ from our people for 30 long years.   So what is your problem, Navi? You and others at the United Nations did sweet bugger-all to help our people; you all only talked mighty.  Big deal, Ha!  Let’s cut out that string of raw Boerewors of yours  before it comes alive and strangle you at your own nasty game, and let us look after our people!”

Well”¦well”¦well”¦what do you know.  So you and your boss Ban ki-Moon made a  “ƒ”¹…”High school bully move’ to disregard the UN  protocols and ethics which both your job descriptions say that you have to adhere to, and sneaked the Darusman Report to table it at the sessions.  Wow! What arrogance.

What is sickening with this attempt was that the Darusman Report was initially said to be only for the personal reference of the Secretary General Ban ki-Moon, but also that the Sri Lanka delegates were not informed before hand of such a move.

Well”¦well”¦well”¦in your heated exchange of words, Navi  you said, “The countermeasures adopted by the State to combat terrorism have frequently been designed with insufficient regard to human rights.”   No kidding!  Does this description only fit Sri Lanka the only country that defeated terrorism single handed in recent years, or have you found it difficult to grasp the fact that other forces in Libya, Iraq and Afghanistan also fit this description.  Perhaps, far better than Sri Lanka.  I am sorry to tell you, Navi, that your comprehension of the theatre of war is sickeningly poor.

Speaking of comprehension, here is a true story for you.  You and your boss Moon left me confused as to whether the English language used by Darusman in his report was too heavy and complicated for you two to understand.

Navi, what is it that you do not understand in the Report where the panel insists that they have no investigative power and not embarking on any investigation at all?

Navi, what is it that you do not understand what is said in the first page of the executive summary where the panelists say, “The panel’s mandate however does not extend to fact finding investigation”.

Navi, and what is it that you do not understand what is said on page 3 which says “The panel has not conducted fact finding as that term is understood in United Nations practice.”

Navi, what is it that you do not understand on page 6 which  said “”…” “The panel and United Nations officially repeatedly made clear to the government the scope of its mandate as an advisory panel to the Secretary-General including that it was not engaged in any investigation.”

Was the use of the English language too complicated for textual comprehension, I asked myself. “Na!” came the answer, but then the two higher-ups at the UN, Navi Pillay and Ban ki-Moon seem to be stumbling on its words and have drawn their swords for a fight with the Sri Lankan government.

So, Navi, I took these simple sentences, which seems complicated to you two and threw it at the new immigrant students who have been studying the English language as their second language for nearly a year.

Out came an answer from a 47 year old man from Turkey. “Sir, it simply says that this Report done by these people was only to guide and advise the top man at the United Nations.”  “Good man”, I said.  “But was it an investigative report, a report that was done to investigate certain happenings?”  “No, Sir,” he said.  “Good man” I repeated myself.

Pointing out to a 31 year old woman from Haiti, “What about you?” I asked.  “I agree with him (pointing to him). His conclusion is right and clear.”  Thank you” I said.  “In my opinion, both of you are right”, I said.

So what is your problem, Navi Pillai.  Don’t you think that it is time for you and Ban ki-Moon to take a sabbatical and join an English as a Second Language (ESL) class somewhere.  Choose, Canada, if you have to.  Our teachers will certainly help you with English textual comprehension.

Navi, you have got me confused again.  Why are you Sri Lanka-haters harping on the last five months of a 336-month war where the Tamil Tiger terrorists were the king-pins and maestros of human rights violations who perfected the suicide bombing-vest and triggered 388 suicide bombs all over Sri Lanka  killing thousands of innocent civilians.  These Tamil terrorists were the epitome of the classic text book example of  human rights violators and were perfect candidates for the War Crimes Court in the Hague.

Is it because you Sri Lanka-haters feel safer in going after the Sri Lankan government now as you have no Tamil Tiger leader to get you all with a suicide bomber or a bullet as they did with  India’s Rajiv Gandhi,  Sri Lanka’s President Ranasinghe Premadasa, Sri Lanka’s Foreign Minister Lakshman Kadirgamar a Tamil, and also the Human Rights lawyer and Harvard Professor of Law,  Neelan Thiruchelvam, a Tamil, for interfering in their murderous affairs.  Now  you and Ban ki-Moon do not have to watch over your shoulders to see which Tamil Tiger leader was coming at you with a claymore mine or an AK47 as Velupillai Prabhakaran the Tamil Tiger leader is dead,  killed and buried under 12 inches of soil;  Pottu Amman, leader of the Intelligence Wing is dead, killed and buried; Colonel Soosai, the leader of the Sea Tigers was killed in battle; Suppayya Param Thamilselvan, the head of the Political Wing was killed; Anthony Charles, Prabhakaran’s son was killed in battle; Balasingham Nadesan, the political chief was killed; Seevaratnam Pulideevan, Head of the Peace Secretariat was killed, and S. Ramesh, the Tamil Tiger Eastern leader was killed too.

So there you are Navi.  You Sri Lanka-haters seem to be a bunch of cowards waiting for an opportunity for a clear window  to go after the Sri Lanka government now that the ruthless Tamil Tiger terrorist leaders are no more, and not antagonize the people of your Tamil tribe thus safeguarding  your lives.  Isn’t that what you did  last week at the Council gathering?

In conclusion let me tell you Navi, in case you have not realized,  you have got your knickers twisted on the alleged Sri Lanka’s human rights violations, and hope you will feel the discomfort  pretty soon and back off  from Sri Lanka without making it any difficult for her rehabilitation and reconciliation process with your nasty and ugly shenanigans.

You know what?  Pretty soon when things will be going wrong for the UNHCR on Sri Lanka your boss Ban ki-Moon will jilt you to save his embarrassment and will Moon you saying that you have been the culprit all along for trying to go after the Sri Lankan government for getting rid of the most ruthless terrorist outfit in the world whose attack-strategies and suicide bombings have been adapted and duplicated to bring mayhem in terrorist-attacks around the world.  So why this stupidity, Navi?  Such stupidity has no place  in today’s society that  is seeking peace and  reconciliation among aggrieved communities.

I know it is difficult for you to forget nor forgive the shock of being defeated at the 2009 session of UNHRC which rejected the Western resolution to take punitive measures against Sri Lanka.  And I know it was a nasty slap on your face when Sri Lanka was commended for the humanitarian work done to rescue 300,000 Tamils who were used as a human shield by your distant nephew Velupillai (Prabhakaran).  That is how the cookie crumbles.  And that is how it should be, Navi.

Sincerely,

Asoka Weerasinghe.

Correction Asoka: Navi Pillai can’t get her knickers in a twist because she doesn’t use them – she uses drawers and bloomers according to a very reliable source i.e. The undercover Darusman Report.

  2. Ben_silva Says:

Well said Asoka. Excellent article. It looks like the exact opposite of whatshe said is true, as Sri Lanka had a zero civilian casualty policy and human rights were respected in defeating terrorism, funded by external countries, mainly the West.
As for Knickers, I thought she did not wear them, to assist Ban.

  3. Sri Rohana Says:

Asoka! Great article and if Navi Pillai has iota of shame she should resign from UNHR.

Tamil tribal Navi Pillai and her lieutenant Radhika Cumaraswamy are utter disappointed by their cousin Velupillai Prabakaran’s trip to state of eelam suddenly, at Nandikaddal lagoon in 2009. Since then Navi Pillai and Radhika Cumaraswamy sharpening their machetes at Geneva UNHR office to take revenge from Sri Lanka and asking blood to blood.

Navi Pillai as a UNHR commissioner assigns to do her duty impartially. Her emotions are personal but she appointed to a world body to exercise her duty according to acceptable standards. But since 2009 she proved to entire world that she is prejudice and for tribalism and not suit to hold the post according to acceptable standards.
She is the worse UNHR commissioner ever since U.N.O formed. Why not U.N.O terminate corrupted Navi Pillai’s contract and appoint an impartial respected person to UNHR position.

  4. Vis8 Says:

Navi Pillai and Coomaraswamy: Your darling little “rebels” are raping and mass-murdering their own in Libya. How about getting your spineless boss, Banki to issue a “report” on this ‘democratic-restoration’?:

    -and, go get a life!

  5. Kit Athul Says:

Sri Rohana, wishful thinking. Why should she resign? This is a lucrative job. Only way to get her out is by a petition drive by Sri Lankans. I don’t know how to do it, but you may. A simple sentance “WE SRI LANKANS WANT NAVI PILLI OUT OF UNHR”. She cannot understand UN rules and regulations.

“” THE NAUGHTY LADY IN A SHADY LANE, DIDNT HAVE HER KNICKERS ON “”

  7. Susantha Wijesinghe Says:

Please Google “” Dean Martin…The Naughty Lady of Shady Lane on YouTube”” and sing it with my addition. Enjoy.

  8. Sri Rohana Says:

Dear Kit Athul! You have given an excellent idea. It is high time to take an action against tamil tribal Navi Pillai.
