Thanks to the Present Administration of H.E. Mahinda Rajapaksa the Tamil Tigers have been completely eliminated in Sri Lanka and in all probabilities will never re- surge or re- emerge in Sri Lanka which is a fair conclusion given everything that has transpired to ensure this from the time they were completely annihilated and destroyed in Sri Lanka where today their memory is a reviled one by all of Sri Lanka’sƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ freedom loving citizens.

However there is a remarkable turnaround in Tamil Tiger sympathies and tolerances globally from many unlikely sources whether inadvertently or not and the latest goings on where countries such asƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ the USA, Australia, the UK and Canada continue to vehemently attempt dragging down the Government of Sri Lanka through what they term’ human rights violations’ and ‘crimes against humanity’ which are all no more than a load of souped up codswallop which have been presented by Sri Lanka’s adversaries in the aftermath of the ignominious defeat of the Tamil Tigers where those who championed them are instigating these mentioned Nations, exploiting their gullibilities and attempting to bring down the reputation of the only Nation in the world which almostƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ single handedly and throughƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ her own resources, logistics and intelligence put down one of the deadliest terror groups operating on the planet.
But what does Sri Lanka get for it, but criticism, wild accusations and totally incongruous allegations which only the Tamil Tigers merit, from the quarters that finger point at Sri Lanka but thankfully there are many discerning, well informedƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ and prudent countries which have evaluated Sri Lanka’s stand as well as her efficient demolition of the terrorists as an unprecedented and meritworthy one. One which has done the world a huge favour where the countries up in arms against Sri Lanka have a lot to be thankful for that the world and Sri Lanka is a safer place to live in today!
In this respectƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ as well as from a wider perspective covering the importance of a terrorist free world, Sri Lanka’s External Affairs Minister Prof. G. L. Peiris who returmed from the CHOGM SummitƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ has endorsedƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Sri Lanka’s justification in eliminating the terrorists and that Sri Lanka expected tangible action against” those engaged in criminal activities within the Commonwealth”ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ where his direction is plainly visible about who he is refering to. Minister PeirisƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ has said that those groups should be put out of action not as a favour to Sri Lanka, but their own well being to which one might addƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ that the Commonwealth is not a circus of manipulated puppets on a string but a group of very credible and responsible countries where there somehow seems to be a few puppets apparently manipulated by Sri lanka’s enemies playing to agenda’s which are not favourable to Sri Lanka and obviously needing to be looked at very closely and rejected on the grounds of their inadmisability based on how flimsy the arguments are.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Arguably, Sri lanka has done nothing wrong in defending Sovereignity and Territorial integrity yet has to bear the brunt of wrongful accusations and allegations by certain myopic or premeditated pundits who sometimes need to get their own act together and clean up their own backyards !
Curiously it needs to be brought to attention that the nine-nation CMAG, selectivelyƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ entrustedƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ towards dealing with aƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ full range of serious or persistent violations of Commonwealth values, includes Canada and Australia, where LTTE front organisations operate freely whereƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ other members of the CMAG are Bangladesh, Jamaica, the Maldives, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, Trinidad and Tobago and Vanuatu according to the latest media report coveringƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ related proceedings.
In a mannerƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ very becoming of Sri Lanka’s External Affairs Minister who is a stickler for what he believes in based on his vast experience involvingƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ fairplay and justice and as a foreign intermediary representing Sri Lanka’s needs at international levelƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Prof. PeirisƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ has responded to a query as to whether the Government ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ (GOSL)ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ would pressure Canada, the UK, Australia and New Zealand in keeping with the CHOGM 2011 agreement to ensure stern action against those operating outside the law.
Prof. Peiris was briefing the media having returned from the CHOGM 2011 summit where he has not minced his words about what he was refering to.
Citing ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ the on-going police and judicial action by the Netherlands against the LTTE which has caught world attention, Prof. Peiris hasƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ said that the LTTE was very active in some Commonwealth countries such as the UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand in spite of it being a proscribed organisation in 32 countries, including the 27-member EU grouping.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ It brings to bear the lopsidedness of the policies of these countries who are part of the main group of Sri Lanka’s accusers of violations where Prof. Peiris hasƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ alleged that a section of the international media, including the Australian press had played a critical role in the anti-Sri Lankan campaign in the run-up to the inauguration of the CHOGM summit on Oct. 28. He described Sri LankaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s triumph as an unparalleled achievement for the countryƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s foreign policy and diplomacy.
Quoting from the News report which first reported this, “asked whether Eminent Persons GroupƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s proposal for a Commissioner for Democracy, the Rule of Law and Human Rights could be revived, though it didnƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢t appeal to member states at the CHOGM 2011, Prof. Peiris said that it would never succeed. He said that 90 per cent of Commonwealth members had opposed the proposal at the CHOGM 2011 and he was sure it wouldnƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢t be a reality. The minister has described the proposed Human Rights watchdog as an intrusive body, which would never be acceptable to the vast majority of the grouping where both India and South Africa which are big names in the group amongst othersƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ have rejected the HR watchdog in spite of UK, Australia, Canada and New Zealand throwing their weight behind the move which is thought to be partly due to the strong Tamil Lobby and its persuasive powers in winning over the psyche of these apathetic believers in their own form ofƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ self conceivedƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ righteousness with hardly anyƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ tangible evidence or reasoningƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ in their favour.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚

A stance which could also send wrong signals to the aspirations of any Tami Tiger residue lurking around the world!

But tigers want a homeland close to home (Tamil Nadu). So they will not try to create a Tamil homeland in USA, UK, Australia or Canada. They will use that money and influence to try create a Tamil nation close to Tamil Nadu in SL.

What ever your name is either Suppiah or Karupaiah or a Chelliah it is not an issue to us. Only issue to us is tamil terrorism.
As you said possibility of re-emerging tamil terrorism in Sri Lanka. In your example JVP scenario is the best to learn. In 1971 JVP insurgency ended up with 25,000 lives. In 1989 that was more than triple nearly 80,000 death tolls. If tamil terrorism started again same treatment will give to tamil terrorists also.

Reading contributions and comments on this site, it seems most of us are not aware of what is it all about. We have been brainwashed by the Indians starting a long befure the independence.
Talking about Tamil terrorists, they were first trained and armed by the Indians. First Tamil camps were in Paletinian refugee camps and then in Tamil Nadu in India.
Indian intelligence service was very active in Canada during 70s and 80s because of the Kalistan (Sikh) separatist. They had extra capacity to help the Tamil cause in Canada and ofcourse there were a significant non Sikh Indians to support the Tamil cause.

In Sri Lanka the Tamil Tigers are as DEAD as the DODO.
There are simply no Tamils left to fight another war. The majority of Tamils living peacefully in the South are living equally to the rest of the population,… prospering, and getting on with life. The North and East on the other hand has seen a drain of fighters, either through exodus to the south, escape to foreign countries, or death in combat. After 30 years of conflict no one wants to fight anymore.
In addition, Sri Lanka has now set up a solid security infrastructure to prevent anymore of this sort of communal ethnic nonsense to start up again…

What Devinda says is true. I agree with Sri Rohana’s comment. This forum has been invaded by anti government agents. How could the chief editor of Sunday Leader writes to this forum. Even Asian human rights commission has written here with a load of untruths. Anyone can send a letter to AHRC making a wild allegation, and that gets reported by this anti government body, which is waiting to find any adversity. G L Peiris is very brave in doing what he did at the CHOGM. The government must get to the offensive rather than defensive. The war was won by going on the offensive. I am sure it is happening already.

Try as he might, irrespective of whether Sarath is a Sinhalese or Tamil his transparencies as very visible through his rhetoric. He seems adamant that the JVP re-surged in 1989, sympathises with someone the Nation terms a Jathi Drohiya (Enemty of the State) I.E Sarath Fonseka, dabbles in the Lasanta Wickrematinge murder controversy, questions the allegations against fmr.C.J. Sarath Silva etc. all of which are anti government responses.He takes it upon himself to suggest that Tamils have no faith in the Government and throws in a cover up with his bi partisan” Sinhala suppression” comments and gets into dangerous territory about joint Tamil / Sinhala State terrorism and must think the people of Sri lanka are brainless! His concept of true democracy flies out the back door when applied to the transparent nature of most of his comments pointing to Tamil sympathy laced ~ anti Government jargon and is hardly worth paying much attention to while also being conscious of his veiled rabble rousing attempt. He could not possibly be a patriotic Sinhalese by any stretch of the imagination and appears to be opposed to the concept of this Item almost wishing perhaps that the Tamil Tigers might re- surge if one reads between the lines so he must be a sympathiser on a calculated guess!

What was the Reason for LTTE Tamil Terrorism/Separatism ? What was the Reason of uprisings by the JVP ?
We seem to go round and round this same theme ! Let’s look for the Answers as we have already identified the LTTE Reason as mainly Caste/Joblessness and resulting Poverty, and the JVP Reason as mainly Class/Joblessness and resulting Poverty.
Let’s now look for Solutions to the above Problems. No need for any more troubles in Lanka if we handle things right.
* Guard our Coastlines and deport all Illegal Migrants. Also set up a proper Authority within the Ministry of Defence re Citizenship in Lanka. As things are, Citizenship can be given to any illegal migrant, starting with any ‘cooked up’ papers presented to any Grama Sevaka (GS).
* Remove Ethnicity/religion from political parties. Endeavor to have a Democracy with no political parties.
* Oath of Allegiance to Lanka a must.
* Educate/Train Youth of the country for Jobs/Self Employment.
Many more points can be suggested …. please do !

Tamils and other Indians came enmaase on the back of the British. Not only they vame to Ceylon they went to all the places that the British went except for Falklands. Indians were anot allowed to go to Canada or Australia by funny laws. Immigrants to Canada had to come direct from their original country and there were no ships plyying directly between Canada and India. Australia introduced the white Australia policy. There are Indians in almost all countries thet were part of the British Empire.
Tamil terrorism or Indian terrorism in Ceylon is not over and will not be over until Ceylon become another Andaman & Ncobar or a Mauritius.
The Indian violent aggressive activities in Ceylon is over but non-violent aggression and oppression of non-Indians has not ceased.
The country is flooded with narcotics by Indian interests. Indians, Non Resident Indians and Persons of Indian Origin are back using non-violent aggression and oppression they have used for centuries are being used globally.
Who are taking part in UN activities. Examples are Yamin Sooka, Nava Pillai are POI. Vijay Numbiar is a NRI.

The biggest threat to non-Indians in Ceylon comes from the Indians in India as well as from Indians overseas. (Remeber Tamils are Indians) Then from British in UK and in US, Australia, Canada etc.
The support for Tamil terroroist from the West comes mainly from the Socialists in those countries. Remember when Margaret Thatcher was the prime minister not a single Tamil terrorist was allowed to land in UK in 1983 while tens of thousands were let in by Canada and India. These terrorists are referred to as the Tamil diaspora.
The only solution is to empower the majority of the country. This can only be done by the uniting the majority. In 1951 SWRD divided the majority with funds from Indians. remeber SWRD and his cohorts did not nationalise Indian businesses, but the emrging Sinhala businesses.

Sri Rohana, I agree with you. Sarath is a Tamil disinformation person. If any one uses CEYLON refering Sri Lanka, then he /she is Tamil or Sinhala disinformation person. I refer to Sarath comments for Charles Perera’s article “Is fighting against Terrorism a violation of Human rights?” He praises Pramadase “Some even celebrated when Pramadase was killed” What he does not want to write is that Pramadase was a MAJOR in the Prabhrakeran Army. He gave military equipment to Prabhrakeran when Ranjan Wijerathne was in Pakistan to buy military equipment to the SL Army. He could be Srisean Cooray’s son. Any one refering to Mrs. Bandaranayake as Mrs. SWRD is a another clue that he is a Tamil who knows very little about Sri Lanka. I think Susantha Wijayasinha is the same person. Read his comments for Dr. Sudath Gunasekar’s article. What Susantha dosen’t like is the GREAT SRI LANKA constitution but he denouces JR and then comparaes JR to Hitler without directly attacking the SL constitution. I will put my rebuttal to this article later.

Let names be names. Even changing the name CEYLON to SriLanka makes no sense. But now SriLanka is the name. Sinhala-Buddhist are the majority. Get on with the facts of life and live 80 years, not 13-50.

Sri Rohana, Kit Athul, you may be correct about Sarath. He could be from any community, possibly paid, possibly just a run of the mill modeya. LTTE and their sympathisers abroad has so much funds that they pay a number of people to full time research and spread disinformation with a many pronged strategy.I have been studying their propoganda war for a while now. Anti-terrorist and patriotic Sri Lankan groups should devote more time and resources into studying how the LTTE sympathisers operate worldwide and fight back effectively. It cant all be left to the GOSL. Here are some of their global strategies:
1. Confuse and divide the “Singhulums” by putting one against each other using greed and fear and envy. Foster a false sense of superiority among the English speaking Sri Lankans against those that use Sinhala and a false sense of solidarity between sophisticated but covert LTTE sympathisers and them; bribery for officials and politicians, journalists and judges etc (refer recent statements by Raj Rajaratnam), put the opposition supporters against the GOSL (regardless of political party) so they are constantly bickering and cannot achieve unity particularly on matters of urgent national interest and security. Encourage the frustrated “Singhalums” who are bickering with each other to go running to the West or India for arbitration. (LTTE sympathisers heavily influence Western and Indian policies towards Sri Lanka so every time this happens it is a victory for them). LTTE sympathisers seem to have something in common with nazis. They think “Sinhalums” are naturally less intelligent than the Tamils whom they view as the superior ethnic group in South Asia, following in the footsteps of the colonial overlords.
2. Create division and animosity between the Christian churches and its members worldwide against Sri Lanka by portraying the GOSL as an anti-Christian Buddhist theocracy. Likewise tell illiterate and uneducated Indians that Sri Lanka is against Hinduism and discriminating against Hindus. Create divisions between Sri Lankans of different religions, particularly Sri Lankans who are Christian against those who are Buddhist.
3. Put ordinary foreign people against Sri Lanka and spread untruths, eg build on existing racial and cultural prejudices against South Asians to lump Sri Lanka in with the less savoury aspects of cultural practices on the South Asian mainland, eg female infanticide, honour killing, extreme lack of hygeine, bride burning, extreme caste discrimination etc – by associating Sri Lanka with these negative images by pulling some simple triggers of prejudice in foreign minds and media, especially white-westerners with a sense of inherent “superiority” against former colonials, then linking Sri Lanka to the Sinhalese and indirectly vilifying “Singhalums” without much effort.
4. Describing every Sri Lankan who disagrees with their ideology as “Sinhalese”. Sinhalese are already so vilified by them in the west and India and elsewhere so they sometimes use it like an insult.
5. Encourage violent revolutionary groups like the JVP and socialist ideologies in a manner that will undermine Sri Lanka’s march towards economic liberation, integration into the global trading economy and uplifted standards of living for all citizens, particularly the poor masses. It is no secret that the LTTE sympathisers pay certain of the JVP and similar agitational groups, from time to time, to do their dirty work.
There are more strategies they use. I could write chapters on their various strategies. Its time we seriously countered them instead of running for outside assistance and advice every time and attempt to use outside mediators, human rights groups etc to castigate other Sri Lankans who we disagree with.

Sri Lanka is our country and not Ceylon.
Our main export tea is well known worldwide as Ceylon Tea.
Mostly in Middle East, Turkey, etc., our tea is being known and called as Seylan Tea.
Better we, call our country as Sri Lanka.

Geoff. Yes you are correct. JR did a shoddy job. But at that time that was the only way any one could write a costitution. On JR’s panel, there were plenty of Tamils who did not want Sri Lankens to do any thing with Tamil Nadu Tamils. A powerful Executive Presidency was new or unknown to South East Asia. What ever JR did will get amended as time goes on. The 18th Amendment is one, next is the preferntial voting system. JR’s legacy is he created the republic and the constitution for the next genaration to modify, which is happnning now. One cannot bring history to present day and compare it. And that is not logical. As ranjit says above, Ceylon is not SINHALA country, it was written during the surrender in 1875 or so. Not even after the Republic was formed. Sinhala got their country only after May 19th 2009. Here we must give credit Mahinda Rajapakse, he too has other negative issues, but like JR we have to only look at what he did to librate the North and the East on behalf of Tamils. Goeff I hope you got the point I am making. This upheval is about the Tamil Nadu Tamils today do not have a foot hold in the Northern province and that is all.

Please let me explain.
Different racial groups from the Indian continent caleed the Island by names like, Lanka, Ilankaei, Sri Lanka, Lankadweep etc. It was people from the Indian comtinent.
People outside Indian continent used to call the Island Selan, Seylan, Ceylan and Ceylon which meant the land where Sinhalese lived. Even Chinese referred to to it as Xylon. So all that meant for the people in the Middle East, Europe and China it was the land of Sinhala people. Tamils (Dravidayans) called it Ilankaei if I am correct. The word EElam may come from it. Tali has nothing to do with the name Ceylon.
India comes from Hindia, Hindai etc which means land where Hindus lived.
Do you know India is the international name but Bharatha is the local official name of India.
There was no country called India before the British made it by uniting vastly different people.
The conspiracy of calling Sri Lanka is not very old. When SWRD formed his party with finance from the Indians it was called Sri Lanka Freedom Party; (freedom from whom). By calling the island Sri Lanka internationally, the Sinhalese have lost their identity. This is something that the Tamils and other Indians and India wanted when they financed SWRD and other Socialists in the early fifties.
They have won.

What are the democratic rights had for tamils under LTTE. Newspapers, TV, Radio and every mass media were controlled by LTTE.
Even peoples voting rights controlled by LTTE. When prabakaran ordered not to vote you guys obeyed like puppies. Where was the civic right or human rights groups hiding at that time?
When prabakaran wanted the human shield for his protection, tamil civil militia with their family members went to protect Prabaran and his terrorists gang at Nandikaddal. How come you justify it? What were the democratic rights tamils had till 2009 May? Tamils were treated like slaves by LTTE in all norms. Same old tamil slaves liberated by Sinhala war heroes in 2009 May. Several thousands of Sinhala war heroes sacrificed their lives to liberate 300,000 Tamil civilians. They sacrificed their today for tamil’s tomorrow. Do you guys at least appreciate the “ Operation Liberation” 2009 or at least thankful to have a freedom now? Ungrateful tamil tribalism.

Recent Tamils stateted coming to Sri lanka (Ceylon) when the british brought Madras Regiment to acquire the Dutch possessions in 1892. During the Franco-Dutch War, the Dutch asked the British to mind their possesions in Asia. After the conclusion of the war, British refused to return Dutch possions in Ceylon but other possessions. All European colonial powers saw the importance of Ceylon compared to other coubntries in the area. Remeber Indian subcontinent was a land mass of different countries, racial and ethinic groups with Hindunism being the majority religion.
Always remeber there are at least 80 million of Tamils included in 1.4 billion Indians that a small group of 15 million Sinhalese and another2 million mixed Sinhalese.

I dont think many of you know about the poor Sinhalese people in the country. Please go and see poor underweight
people. Those who goes to middle east but never been to Main street of Colombo. How many landless Sinhalese are there in the country.
British took land from Sinhalese and gave it to Indians. The Indians did not bring anything when they came, but only misery to the Sinhalese, Muslims, Malays and Burghers.

The solution is for the Sri Lankan govt to keep the Sri Lankan military in a high state of preparedness at all times. So if they(LTTE) do reemerge, because unfortunately the LTTE remnants are still around although now very very weak to almost non-existent as the SL govt and Military did a brilliant job of crushing them. The SL military can be sent in to deal with them immediately. Personally I don’t think the LTTE will ever re emerge in Sri Lanka. The LTTE thank god is consigned to the history books. Their leadership has been destroyed and most importantly the Tamil community in Sri Lanka and internationally has abandoned them forever. However nefarious forces in the west are giving their criminal remnants sanctuary in the hope they can menace Sri lanka in the future. I think Sri Lanka should tell western countries to get lost and stop creating conflict in this world. Sri Lanka has finally managed to achieve peace, I think this good situation will last for a long time. However as ever Sri Lanka should be on full alert to the evil nefarious forces that exist outside Sri Lanka who gave the blood thirsty LTTE the deadliest terrorist group in the world a helping hand.
