PAKISTAN: A senior surgeon belonging to the Ahmadi sect is abducted with his son and remains missing

AHRC

A senior surgeon belonging to the Ahmadiyya sect of Islam has been missing since October 30, 2011. He was traveling in a car with his son of eleven years. The car was found abandoned far away from his home.

Dr. Shah Muhammad Javed, a resident of Sadiqabad Mohallah Kotli Azad Kashmir, the Pakistani part of Kashmir, is a Senior Surgeon in Kotli District Hospital and also owns and operates a private clinic, under the name of “Dr. Shah Muhammad Javed Surgical Clinic”, which is located opposite to the General Post office. He has been missing since 10:30 pm, October 30, 2011. At the time he was in the company of his eleven year old son, Fahad Javed. They were returning to their home from their in laws’ house which is about a five minute walk from their home. At 7:00 am on October 31, 2011 The Motorway Police called his clinic (as they found his visiting card from his car) and informed that his car Licence no: IDN 611 was parked near Dina, Jhelum,Punjab province. His family filed a report of an incident at the local Police Station in Kotli, Azad Kashmir. However, there is no clue about their whereabouts.

The police say that since he is from Ahmadiyya sect he has obviously been abducted by Muslim fundamentalists and it will be impossible to find him. A family member complained to the Asian Human Rights Commission that the police were showing the least possible interest to search for the father and son.

The car was found in Dina, Jehlum, more than 100 kilometers away from his home. The place is close to the area from where the body of a prominent journalist, Mr. Saleem Shazad’s car was found after his abduction and disappearance in the month of May. The roads leading to Jehlum are all covered by law enforcement agencies as the area is one of the biggest Cantonment areas of Pakistan. At every 20 kilometers there are check posts of the military or police.

The family members fear that he would be killed along with his son if quick efforts were not adopted. No group has yet claimed his abduction but it is obvious that religious fundamentalist groups, including main stream political parties are driving strong movements to crush the Ahmadiyya sect as it is basically against their belief of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) as the last prophet of Islam. Punjab province has become a strong hold of such fundamentalist groups who do not tolerate the Ahmadis, their mosques, their educational institutions and bar the students from the professional colleges. It is also alleged that the provincial government was also holding such conferences where the Ahmadis are declared as infidel and liable to be killed.

The government has proved to be incompetent before the pressure of the militant religious groups. They operate by their own laws and are a state within a state. Last year two mosques of the Ahmadiyya were attacked by the militant religious groups in which 84 persons from the sect were killed. Due to the appeasement attitude of the government target killings of Ahmadis continue.

The Asian Human Rights Commission urges the government to make ensure the safe recovery of the surgeon and his son and bring the abductors before the law. The silence of the government on the killings of its own citizens in the name of religion only goes to provide positive signals to the militant and sectarian organizations that they are free to carry out their nefarious designs.

May Allah the Almighty protect innocent Ahmadi Muslims in Pakistan. Ameen.

Speaking during his weekly address, (delivered at: Baithul Futuh, Mordon, U.K. on 11th November 2011) His Holiness, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, Head of the World-wide Ahmadiyya Muslim Community has spoken in length on the ongoing persecution faced by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in Pakistan, Indonesia and some other Islamic Countries. Addressing detractors, Ahmadiyya Head said ‘O opponents of Ahmadiyyat, fear God for Whom your wealth, your conceit and arrogance, your Imamat of mosques, your political parties, your governmental power, your majority in numbers has no significance. In response to all your oppressions, our answer is the same which the Holy Qur’an states in the verses: ‘…Surely He is Powerful, Severe in punishment.’ His Holiness said the persecution has now spread to innocent Ahmadi school children who are told that they cannot stay in their schools because they are disbelievers. The only option given to them is to be abusive about the Promised Messiah (on whom be peace). If a school headmaster or the owner of a private school shows some decency, he is told that if Ahmadi children attend a school, they would not send their children and would have the school closed……………

Finally, we urge the International Community and Human Rights Organizations to pressurize Government of Pakistan to repeal the Blasphemy law existing in the country.

  2. Lorenzo Says:

    Dear Abdul Aziz,

“Finally, we urge the International Community and Human Rights Organizations to pressurize Government of Pakistan to repeal the Blasphemy law existing in the country.”

So you want the international community and “human rights” organisations to interfere in Pakistan?

Don’t you think this antogonism between the two sects of the same religion is sustained by the international community and “human rights” organisations?

They are NOT interested in peace within Islam. They will make use of inroads they find to further their agenda of bloodshed. That’s what happened in Iraq (Shitte vs Sunni), Libya (government of the Islamic republic of Libya against US financed rebels, Pakistan (government against the people, MQM, etc.), Afghanistan (Northern Alliance, Haqquimi, AQ, etc.), etc.

With all due respect let me say that you are playing into the hands of them!

  3. Ibnu Ahmad Says:

Not only Ahmadis, Christians also being persecuted in Pakistan through this deadly law. But Ahmadis are mainly targetted.

  4. fawzia Says:

  7. abdulaziz Says:

    @LasanthaPethiyagoda
You say that the Islamic communities must unite and attempt to agree on differences between sects. You know this is not the issue as you understand. This is a matter of accepting a Reformer/Promised Messiah/Imam Mahdi sent by God. Ahmadis believe in him and other Muslims do not. So this is the matter of belief and therefore it has no link whatsoever on Western intervention. This is a universal issue, because the person on whom Ahmadis believe in, is a subordinate prophet of Holy Prophet of Islam (PBUH). Regarding the unity among the Muslims, this is the only Community which claims it, as it has the system of Spiritual Leadership (Khilafat) as promised to believers in the Holy Qur’an (Ch: 24: Verse: 56).

The problem is, Pakistan’s Constitution says:
“(A person who) claims to be a prophet in any sense of the word; or of any description; after Muhammad (peace be upon him); or recognizes such a claimant as a prophet or a religious reformer, is not a Muslim for the purposes of the Constitution or law.”

In all fairness it is the right of every community to pronounce their beliefs themselves, rather than being ascribed to them by their opponents. Freedom of expression is a fundamental right which should be denied to none. By exercising my right as an Ahmadi Muslim, I will briefly state our beliefs, as expounded by the founder of the Ahmadiyya sect himself.

The principal charge levelled against Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad of Qadian, India (1835-1908), the founder of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at in Islam, is that he did not believe the Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace be on him, to be the ‘Khataman-Nabiyyin’ (Seal of the prophets) and claimed himself to be an independent prophet, as a consequence of which having founded a new ‘Ummah’ (community) he remained no longer a member of Muslim Community (Ummah). This is an awful fabrication against the Ahmadis, as the difference is only in interpretation of the title, ‘Khataman-Nabiyyin’, of the Holy Prophet, and not in the title itself.

The actual fact is that Ahmadis being Muslims cannot profess or practice anything that is repugnant to Quran and ‘Sunnah’ (Practice of the Holy Prophet), as repeatedly announced by the founder of the sect himself. For example, just one day before his death he made the following public declaration:

“The charge levelled against me that I claim to be a prophet who has no connection with Islam and that I consider myself a prophet in my own right, who has no need of following the Holy Quran and that I have proclaimed my own credo, and have established a new Qibla, and declare the Islamic Law as abrogated, and go outside the following of and obedience to the Holy Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be on him, is wholly false. I consider such a claim of prophethood as amounting to disbelief. Not only today but in every one of my books I have affirmed that I lay no claim to any such prophethood and that this is a false allegation against me. The only reason that I call myself a prophet is that I am honoured with the converse of God Almighty and that He speaks to me frequently and responds to me and discloses much of the unseen to me and communicates to me the mysteries of future such that are not disclosed to anyone unless he enjoys special nearness to God. It is on account of the multiplicity of these experiences that I have been made a prophet.” (Akhbar Aam, 26 May 1908)
No legislative, judicial or executive authority or even a ‘Fatwa’ (edict) of a religious body can change the heart and mind of a person or adjudge his faith. This is why a ‘Fatwa’ can only be issued on the verbal or written professions of a person – and not what may be assumed to be hidden in his heart. The founder of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community and his followers fit any definition of a Muslim that is derived from Quran and ‘Hadith’ (Traditions). He announced:

“God has commissioned me to prove to the world that the living Book is the Holy Quran and the living religion is Islam and the living Prophet is the Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, . Lo! I offer the earth and the sky as my witness and I tell you the truth: God is that One God Who has been presented in the declaration of faith: ‘La ilaha il-lallah Muhammadur-Rasoolullah’ (i.e. There is none worthy of worship except Allah and Muhammad is His Messenger); and the living Prophet is only that particular Prophet who is giving life to the dead by their following in his footsteps. Signs are being shown, blessings are being vouchsafed and the Fountainheads of the Unseen are being made to flow.” (Al-Hakam, May 31, 1900)

The basic point to understand is that there is no real difference between the Ahmadi Muslims and the other Muslims on the doctrine of the Holy Prophet being the ‘Khataman-Nabiyyin’. All Muslims, including Ahmadis believe the Holy Prophet to be the Last Independent and Law-bearing Prophet whose ‘Sharia” (Law) and ‘Sunna’ (Practice) is absolutely final, without the possibility of an iota of addition, subtraction or alteration, till the end of time. The only contention between them is on the definition of “Nabuwat” (prophethood) – as to ‘Who is a Nabi’ (prophet).

All Muslims take the term “Nabuwat” synonymous with “Shariah” (Law). As such, a “Nabi” (1) either brings a new Law or (2) restores any part of the Law that has been forgotten or corrupted with passage of time, or (3) abrogates any previous commandment or (4) makes certain additions or alterations in the previous Law. Such a definition applies to a person who is an independent prophet in his own right, not being the ‘Ummati’ (follower) of a previous Prophet. Obviously, no such ‘Nabi’ can now appear as the Quran is the final Book of Sharia and Allah has taken it upon Himself to protect it till the end of time. Nevertheless, the door of receiving Revelation from God as ‘Mobash-sharaat’ (glad tidings) has not closed. Nor, the need of reformation of Muslims has come to an end, otherwise the Holy Prophet would not have foretold the raising of ;Khulafa; Mujaddids; ‘Imam Mahdi’ and ‘Messiah’.

It also deserves to be mentioned that all the prophets prior to and including the Holy Prophet Muhammad were ‘Independent Prophets’. Some of them brought a new ‘Shariah’ (Law) and others followed the Law of a previous prophet, with minor changes, if required, to meet the need of the time. The ‘Independent Prophethood’ came to end with the advent of the Holy Prophet. However, according to Quran the sure and abundant news of the ‘Unseen’ are vouchsafed by God only to a ‘Nabi’ or ‘Rasool’. This is a great favour of God and must continue for ever in Muslim Community (Ummah). In other words, the prophethood, in essence, is to receive sure and abundant converse of God, containing news of the future and unseen, along with the associated special nearness to God. ‘Shariah’ (Law) was an additional thing which was given to the past prophets according to the need of the time. Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad received sure and abundant converse of God as a result of his extraordinary devotion to and obedience of the Holy Prophet. To express this spiritual status he coined a new term of ‘Ummati Nabi’, as desired by God, to distinguish it from merely ‘Nabi’(without the suffix Ummati), which connoted ‘Independent Prophet’ (not a follower of a previous Prophet) Elucidating this point he said:

“Had I not been a follower of the Holy Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, then even if my good deeds had reached the tops of mountains, I would not have been honoured with the converse of God; inasmuch as all prophethoods except the Muhammadi prophethood have come to an end” (Tajalliat Ilahiyyah p 24).
    He further said:

“Every person can use a term in his conversation as is said: ‘Everyone has a right to coin a new term’. It is a term of God that He has named the abundant converse of God containing news of the unseen as ‘Nabuwat’. And I call down curse upon him who claims to be a prophet, independent of the favour and following of the Holy Prophet, blessings and peace be upon him.” (Roohani Khazain Vol 23 P 340-341)

Similarly, both the orthodox and Ahmadi Muslims equally believe in the appearance of an ‘Ummati Nabi; (Follower Prophet) after the Holy Prophet. Ahmadis believe that the Promised Reformer has already appeared in the person of Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad, while the other Muslims are waiting for him to descend from heaven in the person of Jesus son of Mary. As no Prophet can be deprived of his prophethood (and consequently his special spiritual status and nearness to God), Hazrat Isa will continue to be a “Nabi” in his second advent ; though despite being a ‘Nabi’ he will turn into an “Ummati” (follower) of the Holy Prophet, and will follow the Quran instead of the Bible.

The point worthy of note is that the Holy Prophet himself called the Promised Messiah to be a ‘Nabi’ (Prophet) and a ‘Muslim Imam from among themselves’.(Muslim, Bokhari, Masnad Ahmad p 2/336) Therefore, Jesus had to appear in two positions – one as a ‘Nabi’ and the other as an ‘Ummati’ acquired in his second advent. Thus he would be the first ever “Ummati Nabi” (Follower Prophet) – all previous Prophets being just ‘Nabis’ (without the suffix of Ummati) viz. ‘Independent Prophets’.

Now, the Ahmadis believe that Jesus has died a natural death and he cannot come again. Therefore, an “Ummati” of the Holy Prophet has been raised in the spiritual likeness and power of Prophet Jesus; i.e. made an ‘Ummati Nabi”. Based on the Divine Revelation the founder of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community claimed to be the same Promised Messiah and Imam Al-Mahdi”, whose advent had been foretold by his holy master Muhammad, peace be on him.. Therefore, his position is not that of an independent prophet in his own right but that of an “Ummati Nabi” (Follower Prophet). Therefore the only difference between Ahmadi Muslims and non-Ahmadi Muslims is in the identity of the person of the awaited Messiah., whose spiritual station would be that of an ‘Ummati Nabi’ (Follower Prophet).

An interesting point to note is that the Government of Pakistan, in their fervour and haste to declare the Kalimah-professing Ahmadiyya community as non-Muslims, have inadvertently placed all Muslims of the world in the category of non-Muslims, because all of them believe in the second advent of Hazrat Isa (peace be on him) in the capacity of an ‘Ummati Nabi” (Follower Prophet).

    Pakistan’s Constitution says:
”(A person who) claims to be a prophet in any sense of the word; or of any description; after Muhammad (peace be upon him); or recognizes such a claimant as a prophet or a religious reformer, is not a Muslim for the purposes of the Constitution or law.”

One might ask: What would be the religious status of Hazrat Isa (Jesus, Son of Mary) and his followers if he happens to descend from heaven as prophesied. How would Hazrat Isa deny to be a ‘Nabi’ and an Imam from among the Muslims, while the Holy Prophet himself called him as such? No body would believe his claim if he refuses to be a ‘Nabi’ or an ‘Ummati’, contrary to what was stated by the Holy Prophet.

All Muslims believe that it would be necessary to accept the ‘Imam Mahdi’, when he appears, as commanded by the Holy Prophet: “Thaubaan (Razi Allah Anho) relates that the Holy Prophet (peace be on him) said: When you find the Mahdi, perform ‘bai’ah (pledge of allegiance) at his hands. You must go to him, even if you have to reach him across icebound mountains on your knees. He is the Mahdi and the Caliph of Allah.” (Ibn Maajah)

Nevertheless, it should also be noted that it is not true to say that any Muslim who does not accept him to be the Promised Messiah or Mahdi, renders himself to be a non-Muslim, infidel and apostate etc. outside the pale of Islam. He will continue to be within the overall body of Islam and treated as a Muslim in every respect. If despite being convinced of the truth of Hazrat Ahmad’s claim as being the Promised Messiah and Mahdi, someone does not take ‘Baiah’ (oath of allegiance) at his hand, he disregards the command of the Holy Prophet, and his matter will be decided by God according to the condition of his heart. As long as he recites ‘Kalimah’ (to declare God is one: Muhammad is His Messenger) he will be treated as a Muslim for all worldly purposes.

It is also to be noted Ahmadis were not the first to issue the edict of ‘Kufr’ (disbelief) against the other Muslims. We were very careful in this respect as according to the edict of the Holy Prophet himself: ”If a Muslim calls another a ‘Kafir’, then he is a ‘Kafir’, let it be so otherwise he is himself a ‘Kafir’” (Sunan Abu Dawood, vol 3, p 484)

The founder of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community says:
“From the beginning, I have been of the view that no one becomes a Kafir or a dajjaal by rejecting my claim. Such a one would certainly be in error and astray from the right path. I do not call him faithless but he who rejects the truth which God Almighty has disclosed to me would be in error and astray from the straight path. I do not designate anyone who believes in the ‘Kalimah’ as a Kafir, unless by rejecting me and calling me a Kafir, he himself becomes a Kafir. In this matter, my opponents have always taken a lead; they called me Kafir and prepared fatwas (edicts) against me. I did not take the lead in preparing fatwas (edicts) against them. They would be prepared to confess that if I am a Muslim in the estimation of God Almighty, then by calling me a Kafir, they themselves become one according to the fatwa (edict) of the Holy Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. Thus I do not call them Kafir, but they themselves fall within the purview of the fatwa (edict) of the Holy Prophet.” (Tiryaqul-Qulub pp 130/131)

Ahmadis are tolerant of others, moderate and enlightened. They believe that God sent His Messengers with guidance to every people, so no religion can claim monopoly of truth. They believe that founders of all the revealed religions were Prophets of God, whether or not their names were mentioned in Quran. The Buddha, Krishna, Zoroaster and Confucius were all Prophets of God and should be revered as such..

Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad taught human sympathy regardless of faith of a person. He said: “The principle to which we adhere is that we have kindness of heart for the whole of mankind. If anyone sees the house of a Hindu neighbour on fire and does not come forward to help extinguish the fire, most truly I declare that he does not belong to me. If anyone of my followers, having seen someone attempting to murder a Christian does not endeavour to save him, I most truly declare that he does not belong to us.” (Sirajum Munir p 28)

On the subject of Jihad he said: “None of the true Muslims who ever lived maintained that force should be employed in the spread of Islam. On the other hand Islam has always flourished on the strength of its inherent qualities of excellence. Those who having the distinction of being called Muslims, yet believe that Islam should be spread with force, do not seem to have any awareness of the inherent beauties of Islam.” (Tiyaqul-Qulub p 167)

He advised his followers to be loyal and obedient to the countries of their residence. He rejuvenated faith in Quran, love and obedience of the Holy Prophet, acceptance of prayers and continuity of Revelation without a new Law.

The seekers of truth are advised to read the books of Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad if they wish to know his beliefs rather than being influenced by the writings of his opponents. Please also visit: http://www.alislam.org

I wish to request all those gentlemen who criticize Islam,by looking at the behaviors of the Muslim world, to study the real Islam practiced and preached by the Holy Prophet . This is a very unfortunate situation. But some times I feel that they are not to be blamed, because outwardly what they observe seems to be correct.
Gentlemen, through Ahmadiyyath the Promised Messiah has brought back the real truth of Islam, which must be studied by everyone before making their comments.

  11. Ibnu Ahmad Says:

    @Deen, Munir Ahmad,
Please pray for those who go through Ahmadiyya point of view, May Allah open their eyes towards the truth, because, God only has the power to guide people in the right path. Also pray for lankaweb.com. They opened the avenue to spread the message of truth. May God reward them.
God revealed to Founder of Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at – Promised Messiah – Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad, peace be on him, as below:-
“I will disgrace him who intends to disgrace thee; And I will assist him who undertakes to assist thee:.

“I shall give you a large party of Islam’.

“A Warner came to this world and the world did not accept him but God will accept him and will establish his truth with powerful assaults.”
