ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚
Dear Sir:
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚
I have written to you in the past regarding your statements on Sri Lanka. Regarding your latest comments, I am forwarding to you an editorial from a newspaper in Sri Lanka so that you realize thatƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  people in Sri Lanka too are aware of your views and convey to you their opinion, in case it is not been accurately conveyed to you by the Canadian High Commissioner in Sri Lanka.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  Please be assured that they are fully cognizant of the fact that Canadian domestic politics is driving your government’s agenda against Sri Lanka and that you are repeating the views of the same supporters of the LTTE in Canada that funded Tamil terrorism in Sri Lanka hoping that your party will be able to get their votes. Please note, that having read your statements, they think that you areƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  myopic and mischievous!
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚
I trust you will benefit from another point of view on Canada’s role with particular reference to Sri Lanka. The most important points are –
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚
1) It is downright silly to ask anyone to account for ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”allegationsƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢, except of course the accusers whose burden it is to offer tangible proof of systemic and unacceptable levels of transgressions that warrant the use of the terms ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”war crimesƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ and ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”crimes against humanityƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚
2) Any member of the international communityƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ has the moral right to call out nations with respect to rights abuse and other transgressions, however,ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ such umbrage should be founded on hard evidence and not conjecture. If this were not the case, the UN would have nothing else to do than investigate each and every member state because some ill-intentioned members level charges, using the correct language of indignation.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚
3) Canada is silent about the proven (not alleged)ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  crimes against humanity by the U.S. whileƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ CanadaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”mother countryƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢,ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Britain, has scripted in torture to handbooks on interrogation.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ CanadaƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ has routinely endorsedƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ USƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ aggression in all parts of the word and indeed acting like international cheer-leaders at these global power games that have nothing to do with democracy or civilisation.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚
4) Baird may have forgotten that Tom Flanagan, one of HarperƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s senior advisor and strategists, called for the assassination of Wikileaks founder, Julian Assange. He even wanted Obama to put out a (murder) contract on Assange and said he would not be unhappy if Assange ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”disappearedƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢. This too is relevant.
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚
The conclusion is –
Accountability queries fromƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ CanadaƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ or other locations and polities which have sad track records of self-accounting can therefore be dismissed as the utterances of international bullies. Accountability, however, remains on the Sri Lankan political table for reasons other than those enumerated by the myopic and mischievous Baird. It is an integral element of good governance, corporate and public and a vital aspect of political wellbeing.
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚
I am hoping you will take note of the opinions ofƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ people in Sri Lanka whoƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ hear yourƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ demands and threats and that you will not listen only to your prospective Tamil LTTE supporters in Canada to formulate policy.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚
Yours truly,
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚

  1. Ratanapala Says:

Canada must be held responsible for funding a terrorist organization and for continued funding and support of a banned terrorist organization the LTTE. It is also indirectly responsible for at least a quarter of all civilian and armed forces personnel deaths during the last 30 years – out of total of nearly 100,000. The duly elected and governments of Sri Lanka had to fight a proxy war unleashed on Sri Lanka for the balkanization of the Sri Lanka in the first place and South Asia in the end.

These countries have no shame, they know that their game is up and known. However they continue to bleed the world with impunity as their hegemony over world affairs is on its last legs.
