While it is sometimes distressing to watch Sri Lanka’s cricketers toil against almost every opposition they face in recent times where the ongoing Test in South Africa is no exception it is becoming painfully obvious that the panacea to their woes must surely lie in a thorough cleanup of the entire cricketing system where crooks, panhandlers and opportunists thrive with little help from an equally worthlessƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Sports Ministry which probably needs to be scrapped so that there will be no interference into the smooth functioning of any new setup that will eventually naintain the order and decorum needed and all the”ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Kaduru Ball cricket pundits “ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ who comprise the SLCB some with no affiliations to world class cricket are given their marching orders and some investigated for misappropriation of funds and corrupt practises and made to pay heavy pnalties for bringing the Sri Lanka cricket reputation which was once ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ quite substantial to discredit through their indiscretions to put it mildlyƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ !
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚
When one looks at the management team, the financiers and the decision maker, by comparisonƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ with previous years especially during the tenure of the late Hon. Gamini Dissanayaka whose efforts it was to elevate Sri Lanka cricket to the highest level almost single handedly, today one feels a sense of disgust and contempt for whats going on within the Sri lanka Cricket board where officials openly flaunt the common principles of decorum, honesty and all the precepts needed for the smooth functioning which eventually affects the players adversely in the overall scheme of things as it is they together with Sri Lanka’s cricket loving public who eventually take a beating!!
To make matters worse there appears to be an equally reputed bunch of pretenders awaiting the next board elections to get in there and rake out their needs on the pretense that they are better equipped than the present lot which seems furthst from the truth given their track record as they too need to be barred and prevented from presenting their measly credntials which are realistically unacceptable given their past track records where and entirely new team of Administrators need to take office based on impeccable reputations for honesty, integrityƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ and decorum and there are many who fit this categoty in Sri Lanka today as well as others overseasƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ it must be surmised!
The question probably needs to be asked,ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  ” Is there a real need for the Sports Ministry and its meddling into Sri Lanka CricketƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ?” Apart from the indignities of recent past infamy relative to otherƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  international sports involving Sri Lanka, Athletics in particular,ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  perhaps it would be the best thing for Sri Lanka sports if the Ministry was done away with entirelyƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ and the functioning of the Cricket Board after a thorough cleanup is left in the hands of an executive panel of elite cricketers who, to reiterateƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ have proven themselves for integrity, conduct, honesty and decorum andƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ not a bunch of indiscreet, opportunistic till robbers and world travellers eating into SLCB resources born of the opportunity to avail themselves to the concession at the expense of the Cricket Board.
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚
Next comes the matter of selection where the present responsibility for the job appears to have been given to a bunch of nincompoops some who are reputed to be in a constant state of inebriation based on their love for the bottle as well as others whose influences suggest patronage and favouritism not to mention jingoism and cronyism which seems to be rife within Sri Lanka’s cricket administration whereƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ a thorough cleanup perhaps should be on the order from the highest levels of GovernmentalƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ AdministrationƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ which needs to deliver the mandateƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ and thenƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ step aside so that Sri lanka Cricket will once again recover, flourishƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ and bask in the old glory of success as otherwise there could be dire ramifications and reprisals which will drag Sri Lanka cricket intoƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ depths of despair and perhaps even oblivious insignificance.
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚
It must also be emphasized that Sri Lanka Cricket todayƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  is not only lacking in good captaincyƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ but also team unity about which there are whispers that could grow louder as the boys seem to portray a bunch of lambs to the slaughter each time they take the field against stiff opposition and to the greatƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ annoyance and consternationƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ of many discerning, there are veryƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  talented players sitting on the sidelines sadly overlooked for selectionLƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ suggesting sheer incompetence on the part of theƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  big wigs who direct operations and a pathetic shame for the onlookers who back Sri Lanka with all their strengths and resources and should not be the case !
Very definitely the panacea for Sri Lanka’s Cricket Woes is a thorough cleanup of the System!

The present South Africa tour seems to be demonising the Lankans where the top order simply cannot face quick bowlers on hard wickets obviously prepared for the hosts and perhaps an issue which needs to be corrected at home. But when the priorities for such are blanked by the donkeys at selection level and the crooks at administrative level this is what probably relates to the “Lambs to the slaughter” scenario. The likes of Dharmadasa and Sumatipala will not alleviate Sri Lanka’s problems for the future either and persons like Nishantha Ranatunga and Duleep Mendis need to be booted out of the Cricket Board post haste as they seem to be helping themselves to the till as well as settling their personal vendettas at times on players like Samaraweera while excluding the likes of Ajantha mendis and Suraj Randive and making the rashest of decisions that tend to drag the Lankans down. To add injury to insult the Board has not even paid outstanding salaries to the players which sums up the sorry picture to its entirety. It really is a Bloody Shame!
