Conduct of Premadasa towards Party Senior Jayasuriya is Contemptible

The war for UNP leadership is over; for now. Winners and losers emerged from the secret vote. However, what doesnƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢t come to the public attention is the conduct of over ambitious Premadasa in totally disregarding decorum and advice of the Mahanayakas in ousting senior party stalwart Karu Jayasuriya and further disrespecting him by requesting him to move out of his UNP deputy leader office in the parliamentary complex. There was no need to urge him to do so in a hurry as it was never the custom and there was absolutely no need to vacate the office in such a mighty hurry just before the parliamentarians go for a break for the festive season. The manner in which Karu Jayasuriya accepted the verdict of fellow UNP members and even the malicious request by Premadasa is commendable. What this shows is gathering dark clouds ahead for the UNP. A party member who is not committed to his followers, seniors or the party cannot be trusted.
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Two Camps within the UNP
There are two main camps within the UNP that have been at each other for some time. The Sajith-Karu camp was the challenger while the Ranil-Ravi camp was the leader until the secret vote. Months ago, UNP membership demanded that a vote be held to elect the party leader. Many hardcore UNP members made sacrifices to make it happen. It was mostly a showdown between Ranil and Karu after Ranil reluctantly gave Karu the deputy leader post few years ago.
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ At the secret vote Ranil defeated Karu 72 to 24. However, Sajith received 52 votes which is more than double the number Karu received! Why didnƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢t those who voted for Sajith vote for Karu?
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Backstabbing at its Worst
There were 96 voters which means a contestant needed only 49 votes to defeat the rival. Had Karu received the votes Sajith received, he would have easily won the race. But unknown to him, Sajith agreed with Ranil for support against his very own faction leader Karu. Secret voting was held for the party leader, deputy leader and national organiser posts one after the other. Results were released after all the votes.
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ For supporting Ranil, Sajith was rewarded with some Ranil supporters voting for Sajith against their faction favourite Ravi for the post of deputy leader.
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ The bottom line is very senior party stalwart Karu lost all posts. Now he holds no post whatsoever. In his old post (deputy leader) is Sajith! Essentially what happened was Sajith replaced his very own faction leader Karu in the post of deputy leader!
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Not only did the Premadasa faction betray their leader, but also totally disregarded the advice given by the Mahanayakas. Certain religious factions within the rebel group despite showing their solidarity with Karu, secretly defected.
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Threat to RanilƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s Life ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚
The three UNP members who were arrested for a vicious attack aimed at Ranil belong to the rebel faction. Ranil himself admitted to a persistent threat to his life and identified the Maharajas as the driving force behind these threats. It is a common theme that is recurring from the late 1980s and the mid-1990s when the Maharajas invested heavily on their favourite. ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Scores of UNP stalwarts including Lionel Jayathilake were gunned down leading up to the 1988 Presidential Election allegedly by the JVP. However, no investigations were held and strangely all of them belonged to one faction that supported Lalith Athulathmudali.
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ What happened in the 1980s should not be allowed to happen again. Gathering clouds in the horizon tell a very bad future for the party and the nation. Those who thought introducing a vote to select UNP leaders would be more democratic are now in total shock. After all, democracy may not necessarily follow the democratic process. Grateful party supporters and Sri Lankans thank Karu for the services he rendered to the UNP and the nation over the years. For the past 23 years, the UNP is cursed with the wrong choice of leaders. It is not likely to change for a few more decades.

What happen to Sarath Fonseka too has happened to Mr Karu Jayasuriya.Karu made a blunder by joining the MR Govt(Ofcourse Iiked it!!!).Then he made the biggest blunder by comming back to UNP.Karu was made a scapegoat by Sajith Rosy group and let him down at the last moment.
Now Karu should go back to MR Govt, only salvation or retire respectable way.

Of the two, I only have a guess, but not sure which one is the born Christian or born-again Christian. Now that RanilW won the leadership, and Premadasa deputy leadership, I can visualize very well that Evangelists must be hoping to ride the elephant and baptise us all Sri Lankans soon as they can.
Evangelists of the calibre of Eran and Rosy may look and sounds as if they are in different camps. But for seventeen years since RanilW had become the leader of UNP, they and their buddies in the NGOs and media houses like Maharaja have schemed together behind the scene of Srikotha to pull the UNP through an all important paradigm shift. Over this period, Eran, Rosy and co managed to reduce the UNP to be an elitist cabal of the Colombians who worship the so-called International Community as their saviours.
They have undermined the accepted tenet that no party could reach power in Sri Lanka without the vote of Sinhala Buddhists and prepared a sting operation to fool them. Indeed. those that formulated UNP policies since 1994 not just took Sinhala Buddhist as mere gullible but took them for a ride as well in 2001.
Traditional Sinhala Buddhist UNP leaders were unaware that Eran, Rosy and co has been crucifying many a village based arch UNPers and shunting the rest of the UNPers to wilderness as the truth emerged by 2004. They did not know that it had set a trend. They did not know that it is the reason behind many of the UNPers joining Mahinda Rajapakse government and not bribes.
I say, until such time the UNP becomes a true Sri Lankan nationalist party, it has no chance whatsoever of coming to power no matter who lead it.

Lalith openly said “Mame Maharaja Compayniye ekenekuta Atata Atha Deela natha” (I have not shaken hands with any one at Mahraja Company. He said this in very many political meetings) Don’t forget how Parmadase forced Gamine Dissanayake out of the country. How Pramadase killed any one who oppose him when he was the deputy Mayor of the Colombo Municipality. (I think one of them was Mallama Arachchi) Pramadase’s son who studied at an elementary school in North London, did not get his GCE (Ordinary Level), can and have the support of the Criminal Gangs his father controlled. Pramadase’s son, now can go to any UN committee and request an inquiry into Rajapakse Administration’s handling of the last stages of the war. He will wait untill an opportune time to react. What the focus of investigative writers should be his mother, Pramadase’s wife. She has the funding, Tamil Sangham all over the world will fund her. Has any one read any thing written but praise for Pramadase by Tamil comment writers using sinhala names? No, why because Pramadase gave militery equipment to Prabhakeran when he did not have any. Arnthalawa and Kithultuduwa massacres would have never happend if this equipment was not there. Pramadase who had no athority to order police, yet orderd the police to surrender and give all the weapons to Prabhakeran. Then what happend? He killed them. Does any one know who funds Pramadase’s son? a NGO. A Swedish Muslim who’s family owns large tea estates in SL. Pramadase’s son and his wife having a say inside the Parliament is extremely dangerous. Another danger is Srisena Coory’s son joining them, Today he is an elected member of the Colombo Municipality from the ruling party. How did Pramadase’s son go to Hambantotta from Sucharitha Mudukkuwa in Colombo and get elected? Because, Indian RAW, US State Department and the Canadian Government did not want the development of a new Ariport, Harbor and the Freeway. Fortunately average Sinhala can understand how these people operate.
This is why no one can resurrect the UNP or the SLFP! How much President Rajakakse wants to have a strong opposition, it will not happen with OLD CRONIES. UNP, SLFP, LSSP, CP, JVP, they are all gone. It is the natural law of change, which His Excellency Mahinda Rajapakse started.

To me Sajit is a thief and his father was a traitor to the Motherland because he was the man who said Prabakaran was his brother and gave all the support to kill our own people. So both were criminals in my eyes. Ranil is just a clown and Karu is an Idiot same as Sarath Ponnaseka because they were both power hungry and took wrong decisions in their lives. Anyhow UNP cannot be same again those days are gone it’s pathetic to see their fall from a strong party to a weak one under the leadership of their western backed clown Ranil the gay boy. Traitors to the homeland should be given 20-30 years in prison,for corruption the same should be given like any other country in the world. We need to clean up the whole place without delay if we need to be the wonder of ASIA.

I remember very well about Hon.R Premadasa who was the Prime Minister in early 80s.
I was a kid but remember how popuar he was among people all over the country. I kind of like him
he built thousands of houses all over the country for poor. He was a good man a friend to poor and needy

I lived in Maradana, Colombo 10 when Pramadase was a deputy Mayor of the Colombo Municipalty. He killed any one who opposed him. As soon as he became the Prime Minister, he told the world that he will become a Buddhist Monk after serving 4 years. He was a gold smuggler. He smuggled gold from India. His courier was Hadigalle Paynathissa, head of the Maha Bodhi Temple in India. Pramadasa gave him a deplomatic passport. Indian Customs supcted him because every month he was travelling back and forth from India to Sri Lanka. One day they searched him and found half a millon dollars worth of gold. The Sri Lanken High Commissioner was at the gate to say good by to him by the orders of Pramadase. Indian government confiscated the gold and cancelled his diplomatic passport. Hadigalle priest lived in a mansion, some where near Thun Mulla junction. I think it was near Reid Avenue, given by Pramadesa. Pramadase wanted to take him the Indira Gandhi funereal, but Indian Government refused entry. Jimmy, I can go on and on but this is enough for you to have second thoughts. I remember he was a minister of housing from 1977-1983 and built many houses. He may be a bad person but I still think he developed the Country

I am a Tamil and still remember the big housing scheme in Navatkuli south of Jaffna where many houses were built for poor and needy

Jimmy, I do not clasify people, Tamil and Sinhala, I call them Sri Lankans. But I clasify Tamil Nadu Tamils as foreigners that has nothing to do with Jaffna Tamils. Lets take the name Rajarathnam that is Tamil, when it is Rajarathna, that is Sinhala. I can give half a dozen Tamil names that are not found in Tamil Nadu. I did not know that Pramadase built houses in jaffna until you gave me that info. I hope I will not hurt your feelings about Pranadasa. World Bank Loan was given to JR administration and conditions were laid down that where equal number of houses to be built in Tamil Speaking ares and Sinhala speaking areas. Pramadasa managed it and Srisena Coory implemented it; they collected millions from building contractors regardless Tamil or Sinhala. I do not support Mahinda Rajapaksa blindly, but do you agree that MR is doing a good job of getting INDIANS to fund housing in Northern Province? Now let me see whether I can put this through. The Vellalan cast is the upper class Tamils in Jaffna. This cast is not found in Tamil Nadu. Why is that? that is because they were Sinhala who lived there since king Dutugamunu. They spoke Tamil so the British called them Tamils.

There were no Vellalas in the island until the 17th century.
All Vellahlas ascribe to the Thesawalamei Law. By definition it is applicable to Malabar Tamils. That is South Indians who migrated to the island from the Malabar coast during Portuguese and Dutch times. The Dutch maintained detailed records of them which can be found even today. That is why the only local Tamil historical account – Yalpana Vaipava Malai which is merely a collection of poems than history – was written only in 1736 commissioned by the Dutch. The Holy Bible has an older history in Sri Lanka.
According to Tamil historians the only manuscript of Yalpana Vaipava Malai itself was destroyed in May 1981 with the burning of the Jaffna library. However, there is no evidence it actually was there in 1981. Even if we believe them, this “historical account” only lasted for just 245 years (1981 – 1736). The rest is mythical. No stone inscriptions ever existed of any Tamil presence in the island other than what was left behind by foreign invaders including the Cholas.
Tamils did come to Sri Lanka in the past but they soon became Sinhalese.
