The Lumpenbourgeoisie (Kalusuddhas) of Sri Lanka and their despair at the recent turn of events in their motherland.

R Chandrasoma

In the heyday of Marxism the pejorative term lumpenbourgeoisie was used for the upper-class and affluent natives who collaborated with the colonial overlord in the suppression of indigenous populations and in the installation of an exploitative system that cared nought for the welfare of the common people. The lumpenbourgeoisie gloried in the fact that they had shed their native ways and adopted the language and mores of the conquering race. Not surprisingly, they spurned all things that symbolized the native heritage. In some Latin American countries this process ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” called creolization ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” led to a denationalized group that distanced itself from the mainstream population and even claimed a separate social identity.

In Sri Lanka the Kalusuddhas represent the lumpenbourgeoise as defined in the Marxist lexicon on social classes. It is a notorious fact of history that the upper class Sinhala and Tamil stalwarts ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” those boasting manorial status and hereditary rights ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” fell over each other in the rush tto secure the patronage of the White Invader. This explains the lamentable fact that no native rebellion of significance occurred for over a hundred years. (The 1918ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  Uva-Wellassa Rebellion being the last serious attempt to throw off the White Invader) This apathy and submission of a once proud race is the direct result of the seigneurial class of the old Kandyan kingdom and the upper-caste nouveau riche of the coastal areas enthusiastically throwingƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  their lot with the fair-skinned invader. A former Govenor-General ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” Sir Oliver Goonatillaka -ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  expressed this mean and servile spirit perfectly when he said that his dream was to make ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”CeylonƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ a ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”little piece of EnglandƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢.

Times have changed and there is now an authentic native leadership that that is proud of its ancient heritage and wary of the designs of the erstwhile marauding White Colonialists who would dearly love to play once again the old game of ruler and fawning servant. In this nefarious charade the role of the KalusuddhasƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  cannot be overlooked. Decades have gone and the White Man has disappeared over the horizon but the spiritual descendents of the lackeys and stooges of the White conqueror are still with us. Their distinguishing characteristic is the abhorrence of anything native or autochthonic ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” be it language, creed or custom. Their chief tactic is to loudly declare that ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”Sri Lanka is a poverty-strikenƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  land ruled by a corrupt family clique that relies on military power for its survivalƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ .ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  In keeping with thisƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  defeatist spirit the newspapers are full of horror stories about rape, pillage and murder across the land. The fact that when the British Overlord left Sri Lanka in 1948 the capital city was largely a ramshackle collection of tea-boutiques and oilman stores with rickshaws and bullock-carts plying forlorn streets is unknown to most. Apart from the desperate poverty ofƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  the rural masses, the countryside was ravaged by malaria, enteric fever andƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  bowel diseases. Only a sick mind will regard this misery as the standard for comparison with the current state of relative affluence in our country.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚

Recently the uncrowned King of the Kalusuddhas declared sadly that a land both beautiful amd prosperous ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” indeed the best in Asia next to Japan at the time the British left our shores ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” is now a hell-hole of disharmony and corruption. The Crowned Queen went further – she spoke of a land ruled by thieves and murderers. Such asinine hyperbole is characteristic of those who feel deeply alienated by the rise of the natives and the decline in power and influence of a parasitic class that battened on the largesse accruing to them through the goodwill of the Conquerer ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” now gone. This class poses a danger in that they are inheritors of wealth and power and they have the ear of those foreign agents hell-bent on destabilizing our country. Their lies and deceits are ammunition for those who would dearly love to see this country plagued by another Prabhakaran or blighted by another round of the miseries that haunt us when we think of the past.

This is a very interesting article. Please see it through glasses, which are a non Socialist or one that is not brainwashed by Indians.

To cut and paste from Latin America on to tropical dominions of the former British-Indian Empire is not proper as the events and fact are entirely different.
Latin America was colonised by Portuguese and Spaniards with some slaves from their own African colonies.

British Empire was different; where the climate was similar to British Isles they colonised places like North America, part of Canada, Australia, New Zealand, parts of Africa, Malta and the Falklands.
The tropical dominions of the British Empire was colonised by different racial groups of people from the Indian sub continent. These Indians were not slaves as by that time slavery has been abolished. They were willing partners who joined the British in colonising the tropical British dominions. So the Indians are party to the British –Indian Empire and the Indians are the colonial parasites (a word I do not like to use) of the evil empire. The best example of an Indian colonial parasite is Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi.

The descendants of these colonial parasites have evolved in to very powerful people and they are exerting their power on the hapless subjects of their colonies. The best examples are Ms Yasmin Sooka who wrote most of the recent UNSG’s adverse report on Sri Lanka and Navi Pillai the UNHCR who will be visiting soon, both Indian colonial parasites from KwaZulu Natal of South Africa.

You are perfectly right when you say “British Overlord left Sri Lanka in 1948” but the Indian Lords (parasites) did not leave the colony. Not only in the land of Sinhala are these Lords causing a lot of suffering. They are in Fiji doing the same and in Mauritius (where last Sinhala king RIP) they hve done it. Mauritius was a French colony before it became and Indian colony under the British Indian Empire. Today it is an Indian colony run by Indians whose prime minister gloats about his Indian ancestry. The natives, who are mostly mixed, are second class citizens to be raped and exploited by the Indian Lords (parasites).

Sir Oliver Gunatilake wanted to make it a little England that was a little India and it is still a little India today. Just go for a walk in Pettah.

We had British Overlords, but there was a layer above us and below the British that was and is, is the Indian Lords. It is time for us to understand the reality and stand up to them. It might be too late to remove the parasite (Indian Lords) but let us control them by taking control of ourselves under the current leadership.

The poverty of Sinhala rural masses was caused by these Lords. These parasites occupy the land owned by the Sinhala masses that are landless today: whether it is North, East, Colombo or the Plantations due to Mudubim Panatha. The Act that vested most of the land for parasites occupation.

“Lumpenbourgeoisie” Kalusudhdas or is it “lumpenindobourgeosie” Parippuwas? Those who wear veittis, wear sarees, eat saivar shapatu, lives off from hand outs from the Lords (parasites) and want every one to learn Tamil so as to integrate locals masses.

“ramshackle collection of tea-boutiques and oilman stores with rickshaws and bullock-carts”; only the bullock carts were manned by Sinhalese all other were manned by the Lords (colonial parasites). Bulls are sacred for the Lords so they left it to the locals who not only used them as beasts of burden but ate the flesh. One of Whiteman’s legacy, Colombo Trams was scuttled by the Parasite’s and Parippuwa’s trade unions and was sold to recycling Lords.

If I remember correct The 1918 Uva-Wellassa Rebellion was put down by British as well as by Marathi Regiment from India. By this time some Indian soldiers were allowed to use guns, not just clean and load them like back in 1792 and 1815 with Madras Regiments. Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was a pole bearer for the British regiments in putting down Zulu rebellions. I am sure your parents or grand parents have talked about Marathi guards that were used to protect Rubber plantations.

To me it looks like most of the readers and contributors are living in the Anglo Saxon West. Please look around and see what part of that culture is seen back in the island or for that matter in your own home.

Time for the Sinhalese, Muslims, Malays and Burghers to unite and reclaim the freedom lost to the Lords (colonial parasites) now that the Overlord is gone as the writer claims. Then we can lead the rest of the natives in Fiji, Kenya, Uganda, Malaysia and other similar countries to freedom.

If we do not unite the ugly heads of Tamil and Sinhala terrorism will raise their heads again killing hundreds of thosand of Sinhalese. Both of them are puppets of Lords (Indian colnial parasites) and the new overlord India.

I am attempting to find some common ground for countries that came under the rule of Empires whether it was under Rome, Britain & Spain, and also to a lesser degree under Colonists such as the Dutch, Portuguese, etc.

Britain held some 55 countries in their Empire. India as a whole, always fought back colonists. So did Lankans, till in 1915 (Sinhala/Muslim riots) the British imprisoned all the leading Sinhala family males with false accusations, and killed by a firing squad young Wm. Pedris who was from a leading Sinhala family, also through false accusations. The British used the ‘divide & rule’ policy in then Ceylon, at every turn possible. Colonists British & Dutch also imported Tamil indentured labor, over one & half million Tamils from Tamil Nadu. And all protests by the Sinhale, wealthy or poor, were put down ruthlessly. Don’t let us forget that America also went to war against Britain to gain independence, and it were the European wars that led to WWI&II.
All Colonists in Sri Lanka took away our self respect, self reliance, wealth, integrity, and our sense of independence, to some degree. We are not alone in the world on this aspect. Colonists came for spices & wealth, trade route ports and cheap labor, and gentler climes, and in the process spread their religion and way of life.

That said, I must add that the colonists have also made contributions to our modes of governance, brought in modern Sc&Tech, fiscal methods, etc. I would add that Sc&Tech developed fast in the west due to European wars, WWI&II, cold winter weather, communicable diseases, and poverty. In the more favourable, gentler climatic conditions as in Lanka, Science & Medicine were confined to collection, preservation & use of water, and in architecture, the building of palaces, monasteries, beautiful, large dagobas & temples, and in medicine Ayurveda from indigenous plants & other matter. Food grew in plenty right throughout the year and food preservation was done mainly through salting & sun drying. There is a reason why everything happened the way it did, whether in the west or east.
Apart from the western colonists, there were invaders like Kalinga Magga (1215 AD) from South India who did even worse damage. It is said that Lanka has yet to recover from the damage done by Kalinga Magga, so ruthless was his rule in decimation of the Buddhist culture and extraction of the wealth of the land. South India is the closest land mass. So best be aware of troubles from Tamil Nadu especially as Tamil Nadu is a potential break away state of India. Tamil Nadu also has stronger leaning toward the west (see Hillary Clinton’s recent visit to Tamil Nadu), than has the other states of India. People from the other states of India have not attacked Lanka, so we cannot lump all of India into the negative category.

The modern day fiscal systems are western inspired systems, favoring the inspirers. Rapid Globalisation post WWI&II have resulted in every country getting caught up those fiscal systems. To survive, it is imperative that Lanka too learns to live within these Globalised systems, whilst aiming for Self Sufficiency in Basic Needs (Food, Clothing, Shelter).

The west has given us MODERN Science & technology. As we are now an independent country, we should learn to use Sc&Tech to our advantage, for instance use natural solar & wind energy for our energy needs, rather than fossil fuels.
Imagine every home being cooled by solar energy ! Think positive, and use whatever positive aspects colonists have brought here. Also, in addition

    * Use the Democratic System and your Voters’ Rights to Petition the Parliament through the Speaker, to have your Voice heard. Parliament has to go with The People. Use Democratic means to outlaw separatism and ethnic based political parties. Use all forms of Media to upgrade and preserve life in Lanka.

    * In present day Lanka, the greatest danger is Tamil or other separatism in Sri Lanka. Use long Prison terms with Hard Labor as a deterrent to all extreme anti-social activities, including separatist activities.

    * Make sure that no illegal migrant ever enters Lanka and no tourists over stay their visas. Deport all illegal migrants from, say, from at least the last 10 yrs.

    * Aim for Self Sufficiency in all of our Basic Needs.

Sri Lanka is a Non-aligned Democratic Socialists Republic and should stay so. We can be friends with every country to some degree, if every country is a true friend to us.

THOPPIGALA KIYANNE KELAWAK!! KILINOCHCIYA YANAWA KIYALA MEDAWACHCHIYA YANAW!!! EtcEtc!!!!.
One great vulture had the audocity to say that SARATH FONSEKA WAS NOT FIT EVEN TO BE THE LEADER OF THE SALVATION ARMY and later went behing that UNGREATFUL ARMY COMMANDER AND MADE HIM TO COMMIT SUICIDE BY MAKING SF TO CONTEST AGAINST MAHINDA RAJAPAKSA.And now he is REAPING WHAT HE SEW-DITTA DHAMMA VEDANEE KARMAYA.

  5. NeelaMahaYoda Says:

Descendents of collaborating Sinhalese Sepoy families (lumpenbourgeoisie- Kalusuddas) are even today, continued to praise the British for developing Sri Lanka. However truth of the fact is that the British used forced labour to build roads, railway tracks and government buildings under the compulsory slavery scheme called Rajakariya. British only developed what they needed to exploit the country. After occupation, very unfair taxes were levied on the agricultural products that the natives needed. Taxes were levied on wheat flour, rice, sugar, tobacco, salt and cotton. The British plantations that produced export commodities didn’t have to pay taxes. Many Sinhalese farmers were scared of the high taxes they had to pay on high yields, despite the heavy costs they had to pay. In 1818 after the Wellassa uprising Taxes for the collaborators were decrease, Taxes for the patriots were increased. British introduced a paddy tax of 10% on agriculture. As a policy of divide and rule, British reduced this tax to 7% for the districts, which remained loyal to the British during the freedom struggle. Families of those who were connected to the freedom struggle were ordered to pay an increased tax of 20%.. Some of the profits were shared with the collaborators who advanced tremendously in the Lankan society because there was NO competition from the masses. Huge profits were collected by exploiting Sri Lanka and the people on relatively short-term projects, which jeopardized the social structure, environment, peace, harmony, economy, and the national security. Even today, Sri Lanka is yet to recover from the consequences of these British projects. British Colonial government managed to cover all state revenues in Lanka, from Lanka itself. There is ample proof that the British didn’t invest a single penny in Sri Lanka. The Colonial administration in Lanka had to pay 177,000 pounds per year to the British home government as the cost of the British army stationed in Lanka. Even during the severe economic crisis the Colonial government didn’t have to ask for any financial help from England. Such was the magnitude of the profits.
1818 Massacre of Sinhalese in the Battle of Madulla On 6th January 1818, a British Army unit assaulted a jungle base belonging to a Sinhala Army unit in Madulla. Sinhalese camp was based around a cave in a mountain range. British used the superior manpower they had with the local collaborators, specially the Muslims. The Sinhalese didn’t have the firepower. At the end of the battle, the last 50 Sinhalese troops were cornered at the cave. They decided to do a final suicidal charge on the British. With a huge war cry they rushed out of the cave entrance, and crashed into the British troops. British and the collaborators were surprised and many ran away. While twenty Sinhala troops fell dead, the rest jumped from the steep cliff and committed suicide. In the darkness of that night, the angry British troops committed more horrendous crimes against the Sinhalese villagers. In a dispatch sent to the Governer Brownrigg, they admitted killing of only one Sinhalese woman and her child.
1818 Dumbara and Hewaheta joins Uva By February 1818, both Dumbara and Hewaheta joined the freedom struggle.
1818 British worry about losing the hill country By 21st Feb 1818 British were discussing withdrawal from Hill country. But 7000 troops brought from India help crush the revolt.
1818 The Best Opportunity Ever to chase the British On 20th April 1818, British Governor Brownrigg in Lanka wrote a memo begging the Viceroy of India for immediate reinforcements. He said that it would be a disgrace to the British Army and would damage the safety of the British empire if the natives threw them into the sea. The dangerous situation was further proved by the orders he received from London. London ordered the British in Lanka to abandon the interior and retreat to the coast. That was how bad the situation was. Unfortunately, patriots were not able to take advantage of the situation because of the disunity of the nation. Greedy collaborators refused to join the freedom struggle. Sri Lanka missed the best opportunity they ever had, to free the country.
1818 British would have lost Lanka, if not for the reinforcements All records indicate that British would have lost Lanka if not for the British reinforcements that came from India. Most of the reinforcements were Indian Sepoy troops led by British officers. They had a jolly good time with their superior firepower and the destruction carried out unopposed. (Sinhalese were able to inflict disastrous casualties on them only in the jungles). After the war was over, British started thinking of better social tactics to avoid future freedom struggles.
1818 Martial Law is declared On 21st February 1818, British declared Martial Law on the Kandyan provinces.
1818 Collaborators betray the country British used the local collaborators to the maximum. Some greedy low class people, passed information in return for special treatment and payments. Muslim traders, who penetrated deep into villages, brought valuable information. Many local chiefs remained neutral, keeping an eye for which side was likely to win. All these happened while the true patriots fought all alone. So did then, So do Now…..!
1818 1st Freedom Struggle: Major MacDonald completely destroy a Sinhala village Major MacDonald the British officer, who led one British force to Kandy in 1815, entered the village of the Sinhalese leader Wilbawe. He killed all the cattle and men above the age of 14. Sinhalese women were molested. He also destroyed all the food including grain, and burnt all the houses. He did all these with the help of the Lankan collaborators who were in the British payroll as mercenaries.
1818 Colonel Campbell’s Memo: Soldiers wonder about the value of what they destroyed……..! “We were under orders to destroy all coconut trees, all fruit trees and paddy fields. We were also ordered to destroy the bunds of the water reservoirs. This water was essential to them for cultivation. We wondered how long it must have taken for them to build these giant reservoirs and how long it would take them now, without having any engineers or the equipment, to rebuild or repair them. ”
1818 Memo by Major Forbes “We met so many military patrols who had been dispatched for burning the villages and their property. They were not looking for the enemy. The natives who survived our fire would definitely get perished in sickness and in famine as we had destroyed all their cultivation, lakes and villages.”
1818 In the diary of Sergeant Calladine ” Not a single day passed without burning a village and killing the Chingalese men. We didn’t take prisoners.”
1818 Wives and the children of the patriots are tortured to death, if the patriot doesn’t surrender Learning from the brutal alcoholic decision by the Sri Vickrama Rajasingha who killed the family of the minister Ehelepola, British and the Sinhalese collaborators resorted to desperate tactics. They captured the wives and the children of the known patriot fighters and used them to make the patriot surrender. If the patriot doesn’t surrender, it was said that it was his fault that his children and wife “disappeared”. One of the British officers who recorded this was Dr.John Davey of the British Army. Also a captured freedom fighter could reverse his death penalty if his relatives surrender more patriots. These were very dirty tactics. But they worked as the British expected.
1818 Keppetipola and Madugalle captured. On 30th october 1818, British captured Keppitipola and Madugalle. On 25th Nov, they were beheaded. Keppitipola died as he said “Ithipiso gatha” in 2 strokes. Madugalle was nervous and he had been behaving like a coward fearful of death. He was also killed in 2 strokes.
1818 Suicidal Last Stand of the Dumbara Sinhalese: Battle of Atgalle ” We are NOT scared of your burning of our houses, your killing of our wives and children, and your writings (Writing meant propaganda). We don’t mind our lives as long as we deprive you of our country which you will destroy entirely.” In May, before the Battle of Atgalle, Sinhalese knowing the outcome of the battle handed this message neatly written on an ola leaf, to the British Commanding Officer. The Sinhala troops of Dumbara were largely outnumbered and outgunned by the British who had their local collaborating Sinhalese “Sepoy” and Muslim troops. In the ensuing battle, all the brave Sinhalese of Dumbara, fought and died to the very last man.
1818 All children of the noble patriots were killed Dr. John Davey of the British Army declared in 3 more years, that none of the children of the leading patriotic families in the hill country and in the Uva-Wellassa area, survived. This probably is the reason why we have so many unpatriotic rich people around us today.
1818 Confiscated properties are given to the collaborators as gifts British Governer Brownrigg declared a proclamation, which meant all the properties of anyone who participate or support the “rebellion”, would be confiscated. This scared the greedy and the new rich low class Sinhalese to whom the properties were of more value than freedom and honour. Such confiscated property was distributed among the chiefs who helped the British.
1818 End of the first Freedom Struggle: British crush the first Sinhalese freedom struggle With reinforcements that came from India, the revolt (which lost popularity under the weight of the propaganda) was crushed. Keppitipola was captured on 30th October, Madugalle on 26th November, and they were executed. Dr. John Davey estimated at least 7% of the population in the entire Central province was killed. That was how Sri Lanka lost the last of the warriors of the time. Kobbekaduwa Senevi was the only Sinhala military leader who managed to evade capture. He survived in the jungles until 1820. In 1820 the greedy local collaborators, who handed him over to the British hoping to get a reward or a position, would betray him.
1818 British casualties It is recorded that 114 out of 173 injured British troops brought to Batticaloa military hospital died. Over 10,000 Sinhalese died in action.
1818 “We don’t need British troops in Ceylon as long as Moor soldiers are there”- British admires Muslim Soldiers & stops recruitment of Sinhalese into colonial army British admired the Moors for their loyalty in the war against Sinhalese. “We don’t need British troops in Ceylon as long as Moor soldiers are there,” said Major Hardy. The Muslims get rewarded by a special British proclamation, placing them under British rule, instead of Kandyan rule, even if they resided in Kandy. The recruitment of Sinhalese into the British colonial army was stopped, as their loyalty couldn’t be trusted.

1802 First Two Local army regiments are formed by the British (One with Malays & one with collaborating Sinhalese-“Sepoy”) It was called the 2nd Ceylon Regiment, and came to be known as the ‘Sepoy’ corps.
1812 Lankan Land is given to Europeans British Government allowed Europeans to receive up to 4000 acres of land. This was achieved by chasing away Sinhalese from their properties.
1818 Decreased Taxes for the collaborators, Increased Taxes for the patriots British introduced a paddy tax of 10% on agriculture. As a policy of divide and rule, British reduced this tax to 7% for the districts, which remained loyal to the British during the freedom struggle. Families of those who were connected to the freedom struggle were ordered to pay an increased tax of 20%. In few more decades this became a very unfair tax as only the agricultural products that the natives needed, were taxed this way. The plantations that produced export commodities didn’t have to pay taxes. Many Sinhalese farmers were scared of the high taxes they had to pay on high yields, despite the heavy costs they had to pay.

I have read your articles in the past as well as this article which GIVES SOLUTIONS to our problems. Problem is NOT with Tamils as they are supported, Armed by successive Indian Govts. to de-stabalize Sri lanka. This is NOT something new it has gone for many years.

Even an ardent supporter of the West & Americans in particular,( late President Jayawardena) major westen countries ALWAYS ask India to intervene or asks Sri Lankan leaders to get HELP from India, instead suporting our efforts as a SOVERIEGN Nation. Back in 1915, British & Dutch collectively made Sinhalese second class citizens as the writer & commentators state above, MUSLIMS were revered as good obedient fighters/soldiers to FIGHT Sinhalese Kings.

EVEN now our leaders including President & Prime Minister run to India for any disputes, UNP & other opposition party leaders too do that openly. So wheres the UNITED Concerted EFFORT to cut INDIAN influence in our Motherlland??

All of Colombo is like a foreign CITY with many Indians & Tamils owning & further expanding their EMPIRE. Now they want to share Sri Lanka / India waters to avoid poaching by Tamil Nadu Fisherman. Any suggestion like that, MUST be declined and our OWN policies should be given priority. In the OIL EXPLORATION, the discovery by Cairns Ltd., a wholly own Company of India has so much involvemnet in the project.

Just imagine if commercial productiom takes place, WHO benefits, NOT SRI lanka, its India who gets the benefit. I am totally against GIVING any concessions to India & they with Tamils pose a major problem to us NOW & years to come. IT IS TIME to say NO to Comprehensive Free trade agreement as NOW it shows who benefited the most from present FTA, its INDIA.

Its time for valued readers, and writers to LOBBY the Govt to take immediate action. So lets all get together & petition Govt. ministers to act. Long Live UNITED Sri Lanka, FREE from Indian influence…….Gamunu Alahakkone. P.Eng – Canada

So what the Sinhalese have to do now is unite and back the current leadership as they cannot reverse what was done between 1956 and 2005 overnight.

First let us boycott Tamil and Indian businesses and goods and services. India still gets more than 50% of our income.

Like Cuba we have to stand up to the Brtish made India. There was no India before the British made it.

Not only those thing Suddhas left but also Christians, Catholics, and Churches as well. They are the spy houses and agents of the FOREIGN criminals. Ranil, a Christian, and Malayalee coolie descendant and Tamil Sambanthan always run to Britain. Why? To develop Sri lanka or to raise the standard of life of the Lankans?

Anton Balasingam and Adele Balasingam are British subjects and played important part against the people of Sri lanka. Adle Balasingam is now the leader of the LTTE and throttled demonstartions in London against Sri lanka. Another guy is Fr. Emmanuel, who praised the LTTE as the DIVINE SOLDIERS OF CHRIST, run the GTF.

POPE, a NAZI, declared his HARVEST is in India and Sri Lanka. LTTE harvested the GOLD and Catholic Church got the loot of the LTTE.

Neela, Thank you for the description of the British criminal atrocities in the Kandyan provinces.

The same think happened all over Sri Lanka. In Jaffna, non-Christians were asked to pay HIGH taxes. Non-Christians were not allowed to have lands. If they failed to pay taxes, their whole family was asked to work FREE to the British.

British designed CASTE based slavery as well. Certain castes had to work more days . Caste descrimination enshrined by the British and their henchmen all over Sri lanka.

As you said Brits never invested in Sri Lanka. They invested in Canada. Now I come across many British names in Toronto. For example DUNDAS. He bought vast lands in Toronto with the money he made in Sri Lanka. Dandas was the first British colonial finance controller in Sri lanka.

Stll the Britis are on the move to exploit and destroy Sri lanka. When Kandyans refused to work for British they imported ‘laborers’ from India. They wanted to exploit quickly. That is why they brought thousands of laborers from India.

Recently British and Canadian delegation met Bishop of Jaffna and discussed about “DEVELOPMENT”. How is this? That Catholic moron is the LTTE handler. LTTE looted and gave billions to the Catholic Church.

Colonial legacy is still make trouble to the people of Sri Lanka. Christian/Catholic elements work against the culture, religion and life of the Lankan people.

It is sad to see that there are still those Kalusuddas who bemoans the past glory under the colonial rule, as if the road system , tea plantations, their law and order, schools, kachcheries and all the rest were made for the well being and welfare of the masses of people. Of course there was the Lumpenbourgeoisie who profited from most of it, while the ordinary masses were put behind.

These Kalusuddas, happily not many, speak of absence of good governance, when despite a thirty years of a cruel terrorism, we have a regime which not only eliminated that thirty years of suffering, but also brought the lost pride back to a great race that was made to suffer under colonialism and a lumpenbourgeoisie.

It has given to the ordinary mass of people a place in the progress and development of a Nation. It is an ordinary leadership of the ordinary mass of people that have given the people of this country a new hope, when a few years before every thing seemed to have been lost and showed signs of only a bleak future.

It is still the remnants of the lumpenbourgeouisie, that seem to run down the present leadership that is carrying on remarkable development never seen before, still shedding tears for the past law and order , schools and kaccheries under the Colonial Masters.

Good points from Chandrasoma and a different but valid pont from Nimal as well. We live in a dangerous, highly competitive world, where nations and people are after resources. The more intelligent and capable nations and people will grab resources from weaker nations and people. This is unfortunately, the way the world operate. Why did we allow ourselves to be weak ? We will need to learn to survive in such a dangerous and competitive world. We cannot do that if we give up desires, aim for extinction and live in an era 2500 years BC. We have to find out what went wrong and learn lessons.

  12. Marco Says:

If the author wishes to live in the past, it’s his prerogative.
Perhaps he ought to visit a * star hotel on a Friday or Saturday night in Colombo he may have a different meaning to the term “lumpenbourgeoisie”.

  13. Dham Says:

    THE FOOL says
“We will need to learn to survive in such a dangerous and competitive world. We cannot do that if we give up desires, aim for extinction and live in an era 2500 years BC. We have to find out what went wrong and learn lessons.”

Haven’t we survived to 30000 years with or without Buddhism ?
Who asked Gon Silva or any other citizen of Sri lanka to give up desires ? Mahinad Rajapakse ?

Gon_Silva is the real Kalusudda who value western systems. He ran away to UK and got married to a SuduSuddi and now instructing the Sinhala people who survied 30000 years how to survive. What a joker ?

  14. Ben_silva Says:

Neelamahayodaya has provided useful info. It proves my theory that if you are weak in any way you get ripped off.
Could Neelamahayodaya produce an article based on his comments ?

  15. Fran Diaz Says:

    Ben,
Your comments indicate that this country has been too soft, too accommodating, too hospitable in the past to all the sorts who entered the country first in the name of trade, ending up only to build fortresses and bring guns to shoot at the locals and their leaders.
At present, in the Tourist Trade, we have to welcome only the genuine tourist. Anyone else who tries to enter the country should be watched and thrown out.

To strengthen a small country like Sri Lanka through the Law, it is better to stick to the old adage “Prevention is better than Cure”. To this end, Sri Lanka should, by Law :

    * Stop all Illegal Migration from Tamil Nadu and elsewhere. Deport all Illegal migrants at least from the last 10 yrs.
    * Stop call for Separation by banning all ethnic based/religion based political parties, and also reduce number of active political parties in Lanka to 20 (over 100 at present).
    * Have long prison terms with Hard Labor for those guilty of Terrorist & Separatist activities. No one should be spared of punishment for such heinous crimes. Also, have the Hard Labor terms for all serious crime.
    * Have Oath of Allegiance for all school children above grade 3, including Universities, armed forces, MPs, govt employees, voters at voting time, Tamils coming back to Lanka, etc.

Petition the Speaker to bring the above (and positive other) points at Parliament sessions to have the wishes of the People of Lanka implemented.

  16. Ben_silva Says:

Good points Fran Diaz. We cannot be slack, as the rest of the world is dynamic. Just think of what the overseas Tamils are upto.

  17. Lorenzo Says:

    Neelamahayoda,

Please write it to Lankaweb as an article.

SL patriots should have done to them the SAME things British, Indian and Malay INVADER troops did to SLs.

Sinhalese had the numbers. So if they had done the SAME NASTY things to them, the invaders and their family members would have been history! It would also have deterred them from doing nasty things ever again.

Such a massive army like the British mercinery army would need a LARGE amount of food, weapons, support, etc. Destroy them! Locals failed to make use of this weakness.

Those who infiltrated into Sinhala villages and spied should have been taught a lesson through their families. That would have wiped them out totally. It was foolish not to fight the dirty war they (invaders) fought.

A few other Sinhalese (low country Sinhalese) joined in with Kandyan Sinhalese. They include an ancestor of the Rajapakshas. His name was gazetted as a “traitor”! This gazette notification was reversed in 2011.

All this could have been avoided had Sinhala kings NOT imported whorres from Tamil Nadu for sexxual pleasure. And their siblings too!

That was how an internal conspiracy was created by our kings upon us. Tamil Nadu could not take SL by force so they used whorres which worked.

These are good lessons even today. Nowadays the SAME lot uses other tactics and similar tactics.

e.g. Thamil Vani in channel 4, Navi Pillai, Nirupama Rao, Adel Bala, Radhika Coomaraswamy, Nalini, LTTE Ramesh’s wife in USA, Rajini (before she left the LTTE), Mrs Amirthalingam who screamed disgusting threats from platforms in Jaffna, many other examples from LTTE suicide bombers.

A female LTTE suicide bomber befirended a Sinhala office worker at the Presidential Secretariet. They planned to get married. The woman (bride) planned to blow herself in sensational style (this happened in Lebanon and Israel) at the wedding. Many ministers and the president were due to attend the wedding.

Although 1915 and 1939 riots (also started in Kandyan areas) were bad (any riot is bad) if you look at the context they would have scared the British sh*t out of them.

In 1915 Britain entered first world war (1915-1919) and in 1939 the second world war (1939-1945). Although violence worked in the short term, British fools feared escalation of violence and their cheap soldiers were fighting WORLD WARS!! If violence escalated, these cheapies would have to be relocated to Ceylon from the war front weakening them! So ultimately the British fools ate the humble pie and backed down.

Strategic thinking is what is needed.

Attack the enemy AT HIS WEAKEST POINT at THE WEAKEST TIME.

That British tax system is very relevent today against TNA and Tamil Nadu dirt! TAX them creatively!

  18. M.S.MUdali Says:

Catholic/Christian Churches are always support the “SUDDHAS”. The local converted crowds(both tamil and Sinhala) are unpatriotic and support the whites.

Sri Lanka’s enemy number one is these Catholic morons who still back LTTE because LTTE is useful to kill people and destroy the economy of the nation. They did for 30 years. Now again they try to re-group LTTE.

LTTE is the brain child of England and supported by their local agents like Catholic Church, Anglican Ranil Wickramasinghe and so on.

  19. jimmy Says:

Solution to Srilankan problem is to make Meditation mandatory for all Srilankans from age 5- 100
    Thoughts are important than words
People should learn to replace bad evil thoughts with good thoughts
I can tolerate any one but not racists
when a person think he or she is superior to another human being he or she becomes a racist
when a person thinks other person is inferior to him or her he or she becomes a racist
When a person thinks good, he does good things , he becomes a good human being ( child of God)
when a person thinks evil or bad he or she becomes an evil person ( child of Satan)
The choice for All Srilankans is either to become a child of God or child of Satan

I have a dream oneday All srilankans will live together without fear or intimidation as a family
look after each other , help each other be kind to each other, respect each others cultcure and each others religion

  20. Dham Says:

    Fool,
You are “the weak”. There is no weakness in Sinhala people due to Buddhism. They floated blody battles with barehands in 1971 and our village boys eliminated LTTE while still being proper Buddhists. Why don’t you join Ponnaseka’s fight against dictatorship ?

  21. ahangama Says:

I learned a lot of history right here, but feel sad that the Singhalese that speak only Singhala do not have an opportunity to lean their history.

  22. Nimal Says:

    Christie!
    I beg to differ
    Nandamithra!
Yes you are right! They wear national dress, drink black and white whiskey have a second or third home in the West, perhaps get their children educated in those countries and imitate the Mafia.Your Pizza rapper is a fitting example. But the Colonials stuck to one standard which is just, fair play peace in the country for all.Do we see that after 60 years of so called independence? Be honest and truthful.
