Road to Geneva

By Gomin Dayasri- A senior lawyer in Sri Lanka

“An agreement between the Sri Lankan government and the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) on a lasting political settlement is also critical.ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚-Under Secretary for State (US) Marie Ottero at the media conference at Colombo Hilton.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Americans will throw plenty rope to hang ourselves, as they did in urging Sri Lanka to talk peace and not make war with the LTTE, which yielded no results over years of worthless talk. They hate to admit a mistake. Instead opt to punish us before the Human Rights Council (HRC) in Geneva for not following their instructions. Sri Lanka successfully terminated terrorism by throwing the advice of the West to the waste bin: a telling message America dislikes for the world to learn or follow. Preference is to change a ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”disloyalƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ regime in springtime.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ USA is trying to reach the unreachable by bringing the TNA into the equation as they slot the former proxy holder of the Tigers to the vacant space left empty by the LTTE, to effectƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  reconciliation. It means rounds of meaningless negotiations while Tamil grievancesƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  will continue to fester unattended. A pantomime thatƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  was in the past staged in various foreign capitals with the LTTE, thankfully now stagedƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  in a vacant room in Colombo. Remember the interference from the West during Tiger talks?

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ TNA would be happier, as more Tamils in the North and East, will join their ranks while the suffering of 30 years will continue with grievances untouched and censure the Sinhala majority. TNA are loath to fault the LTTE for the tragedy that befell the North and East. TNA was always a part and parcel of the LTTE with a similar mindset.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Most of the Tamil grievances were recognized in the public domain before the LLRC classified the grievances and distanced it away from the orbit of 13A [plus or minus]. Nearly three years have passed since last of the LTTE cadre was sighted in fighting fatigue. A lethargic government has attended minimally to those grievances. Knowing this will receive high priority in Geneva in March no attention was paid to publicly display, at least, the earthwork of the pipeline through which the remedies were to flow on the grievances to which LLRC drew attention, two months ago.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Its complaints galore from the West without crediting the positives achieved by Sri Lanka in the rehabilitation efforts in the North and East, in bringing the LTTE cadres into the mainstream of society and eliminating the presence of child soldiers. Lethargically the government always gets off the starting block too late- a prime cause for being blamed.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ The Government should alone attend to the grievances. Support from the TNA is unlikely since it is politically advantageous for the TNA to keep the two communities apart to win votes by displaying the cutout of a Sinhala ogre. Relief can be delivered on the identified grievances without trampling on the dreaded 13A. ItƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s the grievances of the Tamil people that need to be assuaged not the TNA ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” the junior league of the LTTE -in its glory days. Americans should urge the TNA to distance itself from its present LTTE mentality.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ With well commended LLRC report in hand, the Government instead of doing its homework, showing results in the limited time frame available before the HRC sessions and smartly marketing it in the international realm, sent delegations abroad empty handed to exotic destinations in comfort to lobby countries. The travel bug is an option to take if there were tangible results on show. In short, we reversed a vantage gained in the center court in a set point.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Attending to Tamil grievances is the way to win the hearts and minds of the people without a protest from any community unlike the 13A that leads to division. It will extract goodwill from the international community, more understanding than the TNA that cries forever for more and more. Without expanding the frontiers of 13A, to satisfy the ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-fedrophilesƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ and their ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-running dogsƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚, the benefits will flow directly to the Tamil people with no threat to security or possible secession.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Double standards of the West and its renowned hypocrisy are well established though there is a shortcoming on being slow to implement the LLRC proposals.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  To show bona fides we should initiate a schedule to move fast forward on the recommendations, with the LLRC Report as the trump. Otherwise we are being hanged pegged to our own clothesline?

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Holding military inquiry under domestic laws on allegations against the defense forces is the correct initial step, following suit of the military forces of the west, on the issue of accountability. Such forums must be opened to receive public information. Aspects of transparency need be visible though within military ordinance.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ The intention of the hostile Geneva resolution is to humiliate the country and monitor the progress made on the recommendations of the LLRC. In the process HRC could trespass on to our home turf offering a hand to the INGOs, as during the war, to interfere in our domestic affairs with international approval. The danger lights that blinked red in the international circuit for long, were not read well in the foreign office.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ This can lead to a role similar to that which the Scandinavian monitors played on the CFA; enabling NavaviPillai to make pronouncements with the stamp of the HRC ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” unfairly unfavorable to Sri Lanka by habit and practice.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ With the country sliding down an economic precipice-more a locally fabricated man made disaster than any act of god- Geneva resolution should be managed mindfully without a confrontation. Sri Lanka has successfully bound the international community with a few reservations to the LLRC report. We must convince that a pacemaker will be set at a reasonable speed according to the changing conditions back home. Importance is to avoid any right to interfere or supervise the affairs of Sri Lanka by roaming busybodies.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Sri Lankans should rally around in times of foreign intervention and guide the government on an enlightened path for the sake of the country.

” The Government should alone attend to the grievances. Support from the TNA is unlikely since it is politically advantageous for the TNA to keep the two communities apart to win votes by displaying the cutout of a Sinhala ogre.”

    Very true.

ONLY those LLRC recommendations that DESTRY TNA should be carried out. Not all.

TNA should be banned. Then USA loses its proxy.

GOSL should have used MORE of EPDP violent election tactics in the north to reduce TNA votes and keep TNA voters terrorised at home without allowing them to vote.

That would have made TNA powerless.

IF EPDP won the Jaffna district instead of TNA using WHATEVER MEANS then the govt would be talking to EPDP instead! That would have been fun.

  2. Ben_silva Says:

Americans are calculating people with self interest given top priority. They want divide and rule, so that they will have control of sea lanes around Lanka. They will do it in a such a manner, that we may not even suspect what they are upto. They are the same people, who craftily tried to give a life line to Prabakaran. If they succeeeded, our life would have been hell. Hope GOSL does not get tricked. Masses need to wake up.

  3. Lorenzo Says:

We CANNOT beat USA but we can beat their slaves (TNA) who are doing all the dirty work.

Dutugemunu strategy. Beat whatever we can first and then we will be in a better position to bring down Golliath.

The north has best schools in the country except Colombo. After war these schools are developed more than any other schools in the country!

Even Colombo area is fast becoming Tamil only! That means Colombo schools will also be lost to Sinhalese and Muslims pretty soon.

Education can change the future of RELATIVE prosperity of Tamils and non-Tamils.

So the obvious choice is to settle Sinhalese and Muslims in the north. East is almost done. I recon we should concentrate on the north now.

DESTROY the mono ethnic nature of the north NOW before its too late. If we can’t settle Sinhalese and Muslims, at least bring Bangladeshis, non-Muslim Africans, Burmese or whatever and settle them there. Good schools, PLENTY of food including fish, crabs, palmyra, coconuts. Our enemy is TNA voters. They are 229,000 and growing MOSTLY concentrated in the north. I would do ANYTHING to wipe them out peacefully.

We MUST OUTNUMBER TNA voters in the north by WHATEVER means. We did it in the east against STIFF resistence from ITAK, communist jokers and other fools. Look what has happened today. TNA runs away from the east! One or two seats and that too try to cross to govt side.

Give the medicine that WORKED in the east to the north FORCIBLY. It should be given forcibly because TNA voters don’t admit they are sick. But we all know they are.

Can’t wait to hear Sampanthan howling like a dog mauled by a pack of wolves.

  4. Caeser Says:

My hats off to Mr. Ben Silva
One will never know what is US agenda behind. They have no sympathy to any party, other than their vested interests. The masses must wake up with wisdom and understanding. TNA is trying to exploit the current economic and political climate both in Sri Lanka as well as Internationally, to bargain their demands. But TNA demands are not Tamil majority demand either, rather the TNA demands are originated from Chirchianity!

The conquest is not yet ended or over from its quest for complete conversion and subjugation of other nationas to it’s whim and fancy !

  5. jayt Says:

whether there were tamil or no tamil, there are always going to be another group. What is the problem with Sinhalese is Sinhalese never developed the country to match the conspirators around the globe. And if Sinhalese did really developed, today Sinhalese already have nuclear weapons and other chemicals and explosives secretly to deliver to the enemies of sri lanka’s enemies. Enemies of Sri lanka is clearly Western. Tamilis the largest group that west use against Sri lanka as Sri lanka’s enemy to destroy Sinhalese. And Western never will be without enemies; since the western is the enemy of the all races and in particularly historical enemy of billions of Muslim, Sinhalese will never run out of options or friends. The options and friends are readily available in India, Middle East, Africa and Almost all part of the world.
Islamic fighters have world biggest legitimate cause and they are yearning for a nuclear bomb or bio bomb, and For Sl intelligent agency, it can easily can obtain the weapons of mass destruction in a matter of time without knowledge to anybody in the world and deliver it to those who yearning for it.

Therefore, those who are conspiring against innocent Sril lanka, better stay steer clear of Sri lanka and mind own bushiness. Also, it is good to remember, India is to home to billions of Muslim and in netter of time, Sri lanaka intelligence can activated in the regions
and in the world and Sri lankans very well knows what is daily happening in lanka and the world and who are behind it. Latest killing of Sinhalese business man, killing a little Buddhists monks and early killing of popular Buddhist monk in Russia are continuous operation of foreigners.

  6. nandimitra Says:

The greatest deficiency of the Sinhalese is that they trusts any body. They trusted the colonialist and ended up 500 years under colonialism. They trusted the Americans and the west and found out at the end of the war that they were behind the Tigers. They trust Ranil w and find he is only a agent of the christian west and has highjacked the UNP. You trusts the present leadership but they allow the Indians, americans to move around the country as if they own it and now suddenly realise they are on their knees to the IMF, You trusts the Sihala urumaya now find Champika wanting SL to depend on the Indians for her energy needs. The long and short of it is that the Sinhalese have blatantly failed to assert her rights. The middle classes who should take up the challenge cannot think of any thing other than themselves. The Sinhalese are if they don’t stand up and fight become the Palestinians in the East soon.

  7. Christie Says:

It is important to refer to the facts as they are.

Not all Americans support its actions in relation to Sri lanka.

It is the Obama administration and the Indian lobby behind it.

Only few countries of the International community support actions against the island nation and India, Persons of Indian Origin and Non Resident Indians are behind them.

The Sinhalese should unite and demand their freedom from Indian colonial parasites.

These colonial parasites arrived in the country since 1792 under the cover of British guns as sepoys and coolies.

They are a priviledged lot and it is time to remove the priviledges they enjoy since 1792.

  8. LankaLover Says:

LTTE paid monies to Hilary Clinton and now she is turning the favors to LTTE by misusing the US State Department resources against Sri Lanka. That’s the problem we are facing. Do not forget no US State Secretary ever made a visit to a person like Jayalalitha of India who is a provincial minister.

  9. Fran Diaz Says:

Since Geneva and all the ruckus about HR violations (war crimes etc), is really about getting more and more concessions for Tamil people ONLY, possibly leading to a separate state for Tamils only, we have to ask the question what is the real Problem of the Tamil People of Sri Lanka, leading to Separatism.

Since the Root Cause of the so called “Tamil Problem” is Caste, can a ‘Political Solution’ solve Caste problems ? What sort of ‘political solution’ is called for here to solve Caste based problems ? Is ‘Separatism’ (Separate state for Tamils of Lanka), which leads to even more segregation of Tamil people and therefore further enhancement of the Caste based problems, a possible solution to the Caste based problems ? Any rational person can see it is not the solution at all.

The Indian Constitution prohibits Caste discrimination. Has it really solved Caste discrimination in, say, in Tamil Nadu ? In that case, why do Tamil people of low caste/Dalit origin, still flee Tamil Nadu ?

It is best to think up alternative methods such as education & skills training, mixed neighborhoods, etc. to lessen Caste based problems in Sri Lanka.

Also, we think Ms Navi Pillai (head, UNHRC) is really attempting to draw attention to Caste Problems of Tamil Nadu. For many past years, the UN has been attempting to draw attention toward Caste in India.

  10. lingamAndy Says:

    nandimitra
The greatest deficiency of the Sinhalese is that they trusts any body.-Agreed !
But Sinhalese trust every body in the world excepct Tamil in Home land !

If We both community realy trust each other than We would have been 100 times better than Singapore now!

Our hope all failed from DSS to MR & GG to RS
Hope & pray one day We will get our leaders who will unite our country for ever !

  11. Fran Diaz Says:

    Andy,

    Trust begins where Separatism ends.

  12. Hitback Says:

Depending on whether you are a stooge of the Rajapaksa regime or not, some impartial and independent observers would argue that the Road to Geneva, like the Road to Damascus these days, is paved with blood, white vans, abductions, internecine war and murders, breakdown of the Rule of Law, a Mt. Everest of debt, ever-increasing cost of living, unrestrained massive corruption at the highest levels of government, massive losses and corruption in State corporations, shameless nepotism and cronyism, …….

And the most decorated war hero in the country, Gen. Sarath Fonseka, who has served his country with distinction and honor, is now languishing behind bars as a consequence of pure political vengeance and verdicts of kangaroo courts. Even his pension was denied.

This sorry state of affairs constitute the unpalatable fact, hidden from view from stupid, ignorant and gullible readers! – Rajakaruna ( a strong supporter of Gen. Fonseka, a true son of the soil.)

  13. LankaLover Says:

    Hitback,

Do not think that the real patriots would fall for your ‘diversion tactics’. We have to forget whatever internal shortcoming and fight against the external threats.

The real Tamil Homeland: Tamil Nadu is perhaps hundred times corrupt and indecent than Sri Lanka.

When it comes to external threats (led by the LTTE terrorist lobby), we Sri Lankans should unite and fight.

Hope you are not still sore from Nanthikadal.

  14. thurai Says:

Politicians and the peoples in the Western Countries have so many problems.
The Tamils who live all over the world have no problem.
    Their only problem is SLG
By going to Geneva they show the world they don´t love the Land they born or live.

  15. Lorenzo Says:

Shitback is still sore from Nanthikadal DEFEAT.

    That is what he displays.

  16. Lorenzo Says:

    Fran,

We should NOT resolve the Tamil caste problem.

Instead we should MAKE USE OF IT to DIVIDE and RULE Tamils. Put a low caste Tamil on top of high caste Tamils. Give weapons to low caste Tamils and not to high caste Tamils. Give ministerial portfolios to low caste Tamils (DD, Thonda) and DENY such powers to Sampanthan.

That is the way to go.

Then high caste Tamils will not have any choice than to come to our FEET or suffer under paramilitaries, etc..

  17. Lorenzo Says:

    Fonseka joined TNA election alliance!

    http://www.infolanka.com/news/IL/903.htm

That was the end of his patriotism. Have no doubts.

When Judas joined the enemies of Jesus for money he CEASED to be an apostle. Same thing.

But the funny thing is when Fonseka is in jail, TNA NEVER visited him! Even LTTE (now called TNA) has abandoned Fonseka!

  18. Fran Diaz Says:

Once more, I hear you, Lorenzo !
Yes, those ideas are good alternatives, if Separatist ideas continue, to protect this Nation from future onslaught of Separatism/terrorism, before thousands more die in senseless battles and millions suffer for nothing.

  19. Lorenzo Says:

    Exactly.

These are DETERRENCE tactics used around the world to PREVENT wars.

If a Tamil-Tamil confrontation continues, there is no need for war or anyother confrontation. We can tweek it to the advantage of SL.

    e.g.

    Karuna split (did wonders)
    EPDP verses TNA
    EPDP verses LTTE
    Uma Maheswaran verses LTTE
about 20+ Tamil armed groups against the LTTE
    EPRLF verses the LTTE
    Alfred Duraiappa verses Amirthalingam
    Amirthalingam verses Prabakaran
    Mahattaya verses Prabakaran
    KP verses Rudrakumaran
    Sivajilingam verses Sampanthan
    Raviraj verses Prabakaran
    T Maheswaran verses Mano Gonason
AJ Wilson (a relative of SJV Chelva of TNA. He was pit against TNA by UNP in 1970s and 1980s).
    Kunanayagam verses Navi Pillai

    Plenty of examples.

Pit Tamils against Tamils so that we can support good Tamils and punish bad Tamils. Divide and rule.

On a lighter note, you need a thief to catch a thief!

e.g. Catch me if you can movie (a true story)

Lorenzo has the brain of a sh..t fly! LankaLover, this is not a race to the bottom by making apples and oranges comparisons. Keep to the point. I am a son of the Southern soil and proud of my heritage. I am NOT proud to see the Rajapaksas imprison my hero, and the hero of many patriotic Sinhalese, General Sarath Fonseka, for no reason but political vengeance. If you want to carry the sh..t buckets of the Rajapaksas and their stooges and cronies that is your business. But keep to the point and argue your case on facts – not name-calling like godayas would do.

Name calling while complaining about name calling.

  22. Hitback Says:

Hitback apologises to Geoff, the readership and LankaWeb editors. But Hitback didn’t start the name-calling, typical of uneducated, infra-dig Sri Lankans, and Hitback hits back when assaulted. It is called the right of self-defence. We have a right to dissent and not be grovelling stooges, bucket-carriers, or mouthpieces of a discredited and a massively corrupt government, that is talking big as usual about Human Rights while our journalists are abducted and go missing without a trace, presumed murdered, leaving weeping wives and small children to fend for themselves; KGB white vans prowl our streets where nobody is safe, even us in the South, some of whom have fought in the Sri Lanka Armed Forces. Have you? If you haven’t keep your damn mouth shut and stop preaching to us!

We want General Fonseka unconditionally released. And if General Fonseka becomes President, you better leave Sri Lanka and find refuge in Rwanda, Iran, Pakistan, Russia or China!

  23. lingamAndy Says:

Ref:These are DETERRENCE tactics used around the world to PREVENT wars- agreed But how long !!!
these are short term solution !
eg: JRJ allowed millon Tamil to go out from Motherlanka , What happing now those millon work against our motherlanka from western country – Our president can not go to london , our defent seceratry can not go to USA, evan our UN representive cn not attent his meeting so on………………….

Shall We think Long term solution as a one family member ! that in 13A full implementation over night !!!
If this happend those million Tamil will landed in Palali airport with million US$/£/€ tomorrow !

  24. Fran Diaz Says:

How can real Reconciliation ever take place between the two major communities of Lanka when the 13-A is designed to lead to divisive politics and even the division of the country ? The 13-A is the tool of the ‘divide & rule’ outsiders. Real Reconciliation will take place only after the 13-A is removed.

  25. lingamAndy Says:

The 13-A is the tool of the ‘divide & rule’ outsiders- Not aggred
We are divide community, We may not like to accept this reality but eg:last 64 years We had blood river longer than Mahawali river !
We need unite with diversity ! at present We have 13A is best solution !

  26. Fran Diaz Says:

    Andy,

You say : “last 64 years We had blood river longer than Mahawali river !”. This was because of separatist politics of northern Tamil leaders who opted for separatism, or some sort of separatism, right along, in spite of same or even better conditions prevailing in the north !

    Divisions remain because :

    * Divisions within the Tamil community itself due to Caste/Class issues.

    * Historical invasions into Lanka from Tamil areas in India in ancient times, therefore lack of trust of Tamil Nadu. In post Independent Lanka, Tamil Nadu low caste/Dalit people came in thousands to Lanka to escape Caste issues of TN. A powerful north Lanka will have over a million of Tamil people coming to Lanka from TN, to escape Caste/poverty issues there. We dare say that if TN was located many hundreds of miles away from Lanka, the possibility of Separatism is far less.

    * Tamil Vellala leaders have always kept the North apart from the rest of Lanka to keep Caste, did not allow other northern Tamil people full integration into rest of Lanka.

    * 13-A, will lead to Separatism. Only naive people will think otherwise. 13-A is the ‘divide & rule’ instrument of for outsiders. Without the 13-A, more of real integration will take place.

Andy, Lanka cannot afford to please a small percentage of people in the country at the cost of liberty of the rest. Lanka cannot solve the Caste/poverty problems of Tamil Nadu either. That problem must be solved within TN.
Also, please bear in mind that if Separatism happens, the same will eventually happen in Tamil Nadu, and India will not tolerate that.

Economic surge is happening in Lanka. Join it !

  27. Fran Diaz Says:

P.S. : Tamil Economic Migrants living outside will never return to Lanka. Some may prefer to visit Lanka, not live here. Besides, who wants them here ? They have only caused endless troubles for Lanka. A few sincere Tamil people may return home. They are welcome back home.

  28. lingamAndy Says:

    Fran Diaz
This was because of separatist politics of northern Tamil leaders – Agreed but Sinhala leader in south engrage to have 1956 to 1983 ethenic raiats to benefit this small minded Tamil Vellala leaders objective.

Lanka cannot solve the Caste/poverty problems of Tamil Nadu -Ok but these North & East Tamils are not any more TN peoples ,so this our problm if we solve this problm once & forever We all can joint in our Economic surge!

Tamil Economic Migrants living outside will never return to Lanka- Aggreed but almost all of them like to invest in their mother land , to do they want to see stable polical situation (like other nations- india, pakistan ,bagaladesh ).
that why implemtling 13A is right way !

  29. desh Says:

When reading the comments, it is so obvious that all of the commentators live abroad and have very little or no knowledge of the attitude of the Lankans in Lanka, especially the Sinhalese.

These funny times at Geneva will pass. These guys at UN in Geneva must show why they should be paid their monthly paycheck.

No Sinhalese in Lanka trusts or respects anyone from the TNA. In our eyes these guys are traitors, and should be treated as traitors. They should’ve been taken in to custody just after the victory on treason charges and trown in prison or eliminated. No Sinhalese in Lanka would ever consider any member of the TNA and whoever relate dto that party as clean, and that goes to Sarath Fonseka too, who tried to take power by joining with the TNA.

Even though these “Western” talk so much about the Tamils, their embassies demand so much documents, if any Tamil wants to visit these “Western” countries. When you come back to Lanka, go watch these Tamils carrying taxi load of documents to get th evisas now.

  30. Fran Diaz Says:

Re 1983 riots : J.N.Dixit, the ‘vice roy’ from India, born in Tamil Nadu, was in charge of all major events that happened in Lanka at that time. He died of a heart attack when the Tsunami happened in Dec 2004 and carried away the Sea Tiger might as well as ltte personnel. 1983 was a time of the Cold War between the super powers of that time. Connect the dots.
In the 1983 Riots, many Sinhala people, including myself, risked our lives helping Tamils people escape gangs, some gangs led by Tamils.
We would welcome GoSL opening another inquiry into the 1983 Riots and lay this matter to rest, once and for all.

  31. Hitback Says:

Desh, please don’t cast aspersions on General Fonseka. He has no truck with the TNA. JVP has a relationship with the TNA.

And even if he has, so what? Haven’t Mahinda Rajapaksa and his brothers embraced those war criminals, murderers, child abductors, crooks, ex-LTTE terrorists, Karuna and Pillayan, with open arms? How about KP?

Are you blind, deaf and dumb? You can only find fault with General Fonseka, a national war hero, now behind bars? And these bastards Karuna and Pillayan are allowed to have their own private militias, acting like petty kings. Be fair and balanced, you Rajapaksa stooges and bucket carriers!

Plan on leaving to Rwanda, Cuba, Pakistan, Russia, China, Iran,…. when the General becomes President of Sri Lanka.

The ever rising cost of living will bring about regime change and end to massive corruption at the expense of the masses!

  32. LankaLover Says:

    Hitback,

Too bad that Ex. Gen. Fonseka became a victim of the LTTE driven foreign gov funded coup against MR. I believe that it would have been better if MR did not jail him. I think that MR-GR wanted to give SF to taste what what SF said in the rallies like putting MR and GR in jail if he won etc. SF was very inexperience that he ran a venomous campaign. It showed SF’s immaturity and bad ego. Venom is a no, no.. if you are just getting into politics.

MR is not a bad leader, except in one avenue. MR has done nothing to eradicate corruption and waste in the country, and it has grown several fold since he became the President.

If SF came to power, we may see huge improvements in preventing corruption, but everything else would be a disaster. He is very inexperienced, arrogant, bigoted, and unstable (non-solid) personality. He is not the material for presidency, even if he was a successful military leader.

GR has the same type of leadership like SF, but he knows his strengths and weaknesses. That’s why he is not coming into politics. But, SF is overestimating him. One simple example is, he could not understand the support he got was LTTE driven (through foreign governments).

Now SF seems to have locked horns with Tiran Alles too.. check this article came to our notice today.. This is suspected be a site driven by JVP http://www.lankaleaks.com/2012/02/21/%E0%B6%A2%E0%B7%99%E0%B6%B1%E0%B6%BB%E0%B7%8F%E0%B6%BD%E0%B7%8A%E0%B6%9C%E0%B7%9A-%E0%B6%A1%E0%B6%B1%E0%B7%8A%E0%B6%AF-%E0%B7%80%E0%B7%8A%E2%80%8D%E0%B6%BA%E0%B7%8F%E0%B6%B4%E0%B7%8F%E0%B6%BB%E0%B6%BA/ check for yourself.

  33. Fran Diaz Says:

Another thought : No wonder GoSL leaders can’t find common ground with TNA Tamil leaders. GoSL talks ‘Development’ and TNA talks ‘Separatism’ !

  34. Lorenzo Says:

SF is a good place to hide for all LTTE LOSERS.

When Karuna, Pillayan, KP, George Master and Daya Master were LEAVING the TNA (LTTE) Fonseka goes and JOINS TNA (LTTE)!!

    This is the reality.

    Now USA wants Fonseka released!

  35. Lorenzo Says:

    True.

In 1983 riots there were many Tamil thugs. They knew what they were doing very well and where to attack.

They killed a number of Sinhalese who protected other Tamils. Otherwise there was no way riots spread into Tamil majority areas in Colombo like Wellawatte, Kotahena, etc.

  36. lingamAndy Says:

Ref:In the 1983 Riots, many Sinhala people, including myself, risked our lives helping Tamils-
Thanks Fran Diaz , yes some many chinhalavar helped Tamils,
but big question is why JRJ refused to pass crefew ( done it one week later) requied by oppotion leder Mr Amirthalingam .

GoSL leaders can’t find common ground with TNA Tamil leaders. GoSL talks ‘Development’ and TNA talks ‘Separatism’ !- Agreed

Refreshing our memories re 1983 Riots further :

Re: ” … big question is why JRJ refused to pass crefew (curfew …” : Answer: the same reason why JRJ forced his Cabinet to pass the 13-A. ( Mr Dixit may have known the answers to all questions).

We saw a number of Sinhala looking fellows who were dressed in white “Jatawa” and white sarong tucked up in the ancient Sinhala style, quite drugged with staring eyes, carrying long wooden poles. Doing nothing much, just swaying around. Were these the ones who were filmed, among other horrendous scenes, and films shown in western capitals, the white clad people proving that the Sinhala people were killing Tamils ? We had three Tamil Ambassadors in London, Paris and Bonn at that time. Balachandran, Moorthy & Luxshmi Naganathan respectively. Film crews must have been ready with prior preparation. There was a talk that tourists filmed the damage and rioters but this was not possible as the mobile cameras at that time in 1983 were very heavy, cumbersome items and tourists did not carry them around. There was prior preparation for the filming of Riots of 1983, therefore an orchestrated event, not a spontaneous one.
Anyway, this was the start of the propaganda with the west for separatist activities in Lanka, post 1983.

It was always the call for SEPARATION that brought violence from the Sinhala community as a protest. I do not condone any form of violence, but it was always the Tamil leaders’ Separatist call in post Independent Lanka, that was responsible for disharmony with Sinhala and other communities in Lanka.

When will Justice happen for the peace loving people of Lanka ?

As usual, LankaLover and Lorenzo are off-base. Here’s a very simple question: Why is it that the Government of Sri Lanka ( I mean the Government!!!!!, not some newspaper or LankaWeb contributor ) have molly cuddled and rewarded Colonel Karuna and that monkey Pillayan, those ex-LTTE terrorists, murderers of young Sri Lanka soldiers, child abductors, extortionists, with their own private militias? Why?

No civilized government on the planet would harbor and reward terrorists! General Fonseka would have hanged them like rats on Galle Face Green! Rajapaksas and their stooges cannot be fighting terrorism and at the same time hugging and kissing terrorists, murderers and war criminals!

Think about it, the contradictions. Plain logic.

1983 riots was not a spontaneous riot, It was well organised with rioters using electoral lists . They were carried out by UNP thugs some of whom were not Sinhalese. The western media was already in colombo to transmit the riots to the international media a privilege that the sinhalese did not have when 70 000 youths were massacred in the 1989 JVP uprising. It is a well known secret how the CIA indicated that the Trincomalee harbour was American base and later withdrew it ,secondly the Isrealis trained both Tigers and Sri Lankan army and the mayhem created by the VOA stationing in SL. It appears they were meant to lure the traditional enemy to get involved. All these episodes are very suspicious. As ordinary Sinhalese were never a part and parcel of the 83 riots though they are the once now accused I agree with Fran that the 83 riots must be re examined. If there is anything we can learn from the Arab spring this is it.

Yes, the whole problem started due to break down of trust. Since 1963 I had good reations with tamils in the University. We trusted each other. We are still united and meet almost every years in SL although we live thousands of miles apart. If all of us are united we could do wonders. We will be the wonder of Asia. We were the wonder of east once. That was during Parakramabahu the great’s time. Born in Dedigama and ruled in Polonnaruwa, his grand father was a tamil. He united the whole of Lanka and even extended influence up to Cambodia. He had fleets of war ships. Only problem then was the lack of navigational skills.
Our recent problem is the apparent lack of leaders with vision. I think it started from SWRD. Our economy went down and with it all other problems including separatist ideas of Tamils came up. This is only natural. Our present day rulers should identify the real problem and stay clear of communal problems and concentrate on development without allowing room for corruption and wastage.
13+/- will not be a solution rather it will lead to disaster.
