Just as the British media (directed byƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ invisible hands) gives prominent coverage of ethnic incidents in Sri Lanka, so should Sri LankanƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ newspapers give headline coverage of incidentsƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ likeƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ this between communities in Britain.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ WhyƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ are they so complacent?

With anƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ulterior motive such asƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ to gain control ofƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ some trading advantage orƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ someƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ important resource, certainƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Western countriesƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ resort to interfering in, andƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ manipulating internal communal conflicts of other nations, specially smaller developing countries like Sri Lanka, often with devastating consequences.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ One can see what’s hapening in Syria now.

These Western countries have serious unresolved communal problems of their own, yet they pompously stand judgement over others, whilst clubbing togetherƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ for impunity.

Some non-western media such asƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ RT and Al JazeeraƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ televisionƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ stations have started giving coverage to these double standards and the reasons behind them.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ They are so interesting, and very revealing, specially on how the UN is being used to serve their ends.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Local media in theƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ exploited countries shouldƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ pick up on these expose’s, most importantly when it involves countries other than their own,ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ andƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ give them the widest publicuty.

Well said, Sri Lankan media, especially the internet news are run by morons who just are hell-bent to discredit the government. It is high time Sri Lanka highlighted the crimes in Iraq (over 1 million civilians killed) and Pakistan, by drones. Recently, the Israeli army found army sergeants not guilty of bombing houses with children, much to the anger of Palestenians.. No word on this by the UN or hrw or ai.

I couldn’t agree with you more Harvey Perera. Every time we go running to foreigners to solve our problems we are inviting them to interfere in our internal affairs and wittingly or unwittingly perpetuating a “master-servant” type relationship with them. They’re unlikely to offer any solutions as history has shown us time and time again they will just use us for their own ends. If we have no confidence in our own governments, we have noconfidence in our own culture and civilization (which I think is superior to the European in many ways), we have noconfidence in ourselves. Perhaps some of us have been brainwashed to think we are an inferior race? Sinhalese, Tamils and others, members of all communities sometimes display this badge of mental slavery. If this is so, we may as well hand over the country to the British or some other suddhas and tell them to run the country for us and accept whatever treatment they dish out to us. It is such better that and for their own good if Lankaweb highlights human rights abuses in the West. How about starting off with their policy of racially profiling all South Asians in their countries as potential terrorists? Given their own failings they’ve got no right to lecture us. The Sinhala and Tamil language media should highlight the human rights abuses of the west and how our civilization is better than theirs. Especially those who haven’t travelled outside Sri Lanka are often bamboozled by the assertiveness of foreigners and their show of wealth. We must build up our own economy in tandem with the rest of Asia, so one day we can exercise the threat of sanctions and cutting aid etc, against them, the same way they do to us now.
