Dear Sir:

It is a sign of India’s bullying and aggressive policy towards it’s neighbours that people like “Karuna” constantly make statements such as this and the Indian Government reacts to internal politics by harassing it’s neighbours.

It is a fact of Indian history that the Tamils of India have wanted a separate state even before independence from the British. The British did not agree to create a separate state for the Tamils. After independence, the DMK movement tried again to create a separate country Dravida Nadu (Dravidastan), consisting of all the Southern Indian states. In response the Indian Government stopped separatism by amending the Indian constitution. Ever since then, the Tamil Nadu government has been trying to divide Sri Lanka to achieve their dream of Eelam and have been ably assisted by the central government for internal political gain. It was the Indian Government that created the LTTE and provided them with bases, military training by the Indian army, money, political backing and international support and at all times a safe haven in India. While crying about the plight of the Tamils in Sri Lanka, they have been a party to the thousands of deaths of Tamils in Sri Lanka. Is that how much they care? Today, Indian fisherman encroach on fishing grounds that are in Sri Lankan waters and the excuse is that they need to earn a living. What about the Tamil fisherman from Sri Lanka – are they to starve? This illustrates the selfishness and motivation of Indian policy towards Sri Lanka.

It is surprising how many Indians believe that Sri Lanka is a part of India. Perhaps it is because of constant reports in the Indian media by politicians both from Tamil Nadu and the Central Government who are making “policy” statements on Sri Lanka and what they want to impose on Sri Lanka. It is time that the Indian media educate their Indian readers that Sri Lanka is a sovereign country, that Indian politicians have no right to attempt to govern the country, that even the Tamil politicians who have been elected by the people of Sri Lanka do not want to separate from the country and stop this hostile, open attempt to annex Sri Lanka for the “glory” of India. Please educate your readers and point out to them that most Sri Lankans consider India as a hostile, overbearing bully that has proved over and over again that they have no interest in the well being, needs or aspirations of the people of Sri Lanka. Every action India takes is for it’s own benefit and Sri Lankans have paid a heavy price.

Yours truly,

  1. Sunil Mahattaya Says:

It would seem only fair to a more Government friendly Sri Lankan Karuna ( Vingayamurthi) who contributed much towards the dismantling of the LTTE that this Indian rabble rouser politico from Tamil Nadu is refered to as Karunanidhi.

  2. Lorenzo Says:

Don’t worry Karu-nai-nithi is dying. In another 6 months he will be dead. He will join Thalaivar in HELL (Tamil Elam).

  3. A. Sooriarachi Says:

Karunanindhi’s dream is a DANGEROUS DREAM. It is this dream that may have been the catalyst for Tamil terrorism in SriLanka and it is this dream that might rekindle terrorism in SrLanka with South Indian help. Right now South Indians are being misled and aroused by their leaders with false propoganda about the Tamils in SriLanka and Indian Tamil fishermen.

In the beginning, Karunanindhi probably had no option but to dream, after Indira Gandhi applied the CARROT and STICK method on him.
The STICK was, any more talk of a separate Tamilnadu within India is taboo and he would be charged for sedition.
The CARROT probably was, if he give up the call for an independent Tamilnadu, then, India would help him to carve out a separate state for Tamils in the North of SriLanka, by eliminating non-tamils from those regions. Result was the unfortunate birth of Tiger monsters supported by Indian RAW agency, and ending up in the distruction of SriLankan society, especially the Jaffna Tamil community.
So lets take Karunanindhi’s dream very seriously and engage him in dialogue to put sense into his senile head and help him to live his last few years peacefully. Start by inviting him to tour SriLanka and see how the Tamils are living as equals without caste or creed discrimination and much better off than their South Indian cousins.
It is South India that could prolong racial problems for Srilanka.

Quote: The STICK was, any more talk of a separate Tamilnadu within India is taboo and he would be charged for sedition.

The CARROT probably was, if he give up the call for an independent Tamilnadu, then, India would help him to carve out a separate state for Tamils in the North of SriLanka, by eliminating non-tamils from those regions. Unquote.

    This explains it.

There is no automatic disintegration of India if Sri Lanka is divided.

  5. Kit Athul Says:

Ira, don’t forget, until the 13A is nullified, Sri Lanka is a sub stste of Tamil Nadu. Sorry, but it is true

  6. Fran Diaz Says:

We think India had another reason to help form the ltte. That was because at that time there was a Cold War on between the then Superpowers, and JRJ ran with the west. We think India’s other larger big neighbor wanted something done about it, and that was another reason for India to help form the ltte. Also, Cyril Mathew, then LABOR Minister, had a lot to do with the Riots of 1983, and so the story unfolds. Those were JRJ’s woes. Little Lanka was caught downed two ways then, Superpowers & Tamil Nadu. Isn’t it similar, even now ? (gireta ahuwuna puwak gediya wage – like the arecanut caught between the nut cracker).

Lanka is most unfortunate to be located in a strategic position in the Indian Ocean and even more unfortunate to be too near Tamil Nadu !

Also, TN can easily solve its fish problem if they stop bottom trawling of their part of the sea and destroying sea life essential for food for fish. In the meantime, they have to concentrate on growing inland fisheries. They have the expertise to do that. There is no need to depend on Sri Lanka waters for their fishing needs. Sri Lanka : Watch your coastline too, for illegal migrants from TN, plus drug smugglers etc.
