Once again, we have to accept reality. If Hon. Rauf Hakeem is nominated as the Chief Minister candidate of the UPFA group comprising of the SLFP, SLMC, ACMC, TMVP and other supporting groups at the forth coming Eastern Provincial Council Elections, the UPFA team will win the elections with a profound victory. The vote bank strength that the UPFA will poll, definitely will come from the Muslims. The SLMC and the ACMC cannot be denied this truth. That is the reality in the Eastern political playing field. Rauf Hakeem was advised to support and be with the UPFA team at the last EPC elections.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ This advice was given to Hon. Rauf Hakeem with clear statistical and political communication research from the ground in an article published by this writer/freelance journalist. Hon.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Rauf Hakeen denied it and joined the common group that opposed the UPFA and the government. The Muslims lost the Chief Ministerial slot in the East. Nevertheless, the legitimate right of the Chief Minister Portfolio is at the doorstep of the Muslims now. The Muslims are much God fearing and under the stress that they have been put through both by the Tamil community by not considering them equal to the Tamils and Sinhalese for their fundamental rights, keeping them away from all discussions of finding a honourable resolution to the ethnic problem and the hierarchy of the UPFA/SLFP nationalist influenced coalition political groups like the JHU, though HE. Mahinda Rajapaksa has stated at many vital discussions that the Muslims should also be treated equal, it maybe that their prayers have been answered this time.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ A Muslim Chief Minister, YES that is something for them in the East. But Rauf Hakeem should not change seats after the victory in August/September this year. ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ The strength to the UPFA will certainly be the Muslim vote bank of the East comprising of the SLMC and ACMC votes and the pro-SLFP community votes. HE. Mahinda Rajapaksa wants the UPFA with the alliance of the Muslim vote bank to win the Eastern Provincial Council election this August/September. That will also reduce the bullying of Sri Lanka by India because India knows that the Northern Provincial Elections will go to the TNA then. That is what India expects after all. But one cannot assure anything in politics. The Northern voters may support the UPFA as they supported the SLFP under the leadership of the late Madam Sirimavo Bandaranaike. Today the Mahinda Rajapaksa government has proven itself much more than the late Sirimavo Bandaranaike government then. That will be the ultimate victory for Sri Lanka, because it will tame the unruly Tamil Diaspora and make them to realize the reality back home in the North in Sri Lanka.
