Letter to the Editor – Show of emotions of love
Posted on July 16th, 2012

Dr. Mrs. Mareena Thaha Reffai, Dehiwela.

Reading a recent article of Kolu in the Life pages of the daily MirrorƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  made em wonder where are we heading. All that is sacred and respectable are scoffed at and all what is despicable and shameful are recommended.

He goes onto elaborate that a show of love by gazing into the eyes and holding hands by young lovers in public is understandable but show of love by old married couples to be shameful. And he goes onto find hidden reasons why they do- like they may not be reallyƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  ok with each other but trying to convince others that they are a loving couple.

Now, come on! Why do we want to findƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  a reason for their legitimate love and read un existingƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  excuses. HeƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  obviously will not understand it, but many old couples do feel the love of each other and value the companionship, the intimacy lasts for life time and they do have a license to show their feelings wherever they want to. There is a special beauty in theƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  lifelong friendship in marriage and if there isnƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢t, that is no oneƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s business. Sounded a little like sour grapes to me.

On the other hand showing off of affection byƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  unmarried couples is promiscuity, shameful and destructive for stable society. It is writings of these kinds ( if they read it, that is) that enable our youngsters to act shamefully in public and later regretƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  in life.

We the elders have responsibility to teach the correct sense of values to our young so that they have life of lasting happiness not fleeting moments of joy leading toƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  everlasting unhappiness.

So young people cannot hold hands in SL!

    Only married people can!

    This is outrageous.

Bad luck. Go try your SADISTIC ideas in Saudi. If you try these tricks in SL, youngsters will show their affection to you!!!

    Comedy column by Dr Mervyn.

  2. mjaya Says:

Poor lady, probably had a serious crush on a Kafir and this clever guy didn’t want to loose part of his valuable anatomy for her. The feeling is understandable!!

BTW You can see plenty of couples with girls in Hijab holding hands, hugging in public and showing affection. Guess something is wrong somewhere!!!!!

  3. Lorenzo Says:

This is a hidden agenda to impose male and female circumsition and castration. It should not be allowed.

  4. Dham Says:

    What ?
My dear Lorenzo, “castration” should be done on Mareena’s group to stop produccing too many.
Dehiwala to Nugegoda to Maharagama all taken up by them. If you devove the police powers to western council, only homosexuals will be able to hold hands !

  5. Dham Says:

Now the Dubai, Saudi, Abudhabi rules coming to Sri Lanka ?
    Mareena is leading !

  6. Nihal Fernando Says:

This lady doctor Mareena has some revolutionary ideas that could never be applied or implemented in our society. If she wants to follow suit of Tlaiban please leave Sri lanka and go to an Arab country. Doctor, you are just wasting your time but the good thing is that we are getting some kick out of your ideas.

  7. callistus Says:

Mareena, why did you read the daily mirror anyway. It is full of anti govt rubbish.
