Patriotic Sri Lankans should defend Rishad Bathiudeen.-The Muslim community must stand up for the Minister.

By Noor Nizam – Canada, August 1st., 2012.

The national press, international media and Tamil web newspapers are publishing false news items about Minister Rishad Bathiudeen and the July 18th., protest incident in front of the Mannar Magistrate court. It is only “just” to reveal the true image of who Rishad Bathiudeen is and to reveal the hidden forces that are conspiring against him.

  • Rishad Bathiudeen is a god fearing person.
  • Rishad Bathiudeen is a politician with feelings.
  • Rishad Bathiudeen is a relentless community worker and has leadership qualities.
  • Rishad Batiudeen is a wonderful organizer and a people’s man.

These are the qualities of the politician I came to know as Hon. Rishad Bathiudeen when I had to communicate with him by phone from abroad during the calamity that arose after setting up the Manik farm for the IDP’s of the Wanni war in the North during the last stages of debacle between the Security forces and the LTTE remnants in the battle field of Nandikadal in mid May 2009. This war freed the shackles of nearly 280,000 Tamils who were trapped as human shields by the ruthless LTTE cadres to defend their hierarchy of a few selected members of the terrorist movement and their family members who were hiding in the mangrove shrubs of the Nandikadal lagoon.

Notwithstanding the fact that Rishad Bathiudeen was then the Minister of Rehabilitation and Resettlement who spearheaded the humanitarian efforts of the government under the supervision of Minister Basil Rajapaksa, Rishad the politicians with feelings, did yeoman service the people of the North who flowed into the 3 IDP camps that were set-up for their relocation once they were freed from the conflict zones. During the run up to the presidential election in February 2010, I had the rare opportunity to tour the entire Northern Province. What I heard from the freed people in and outside of the IDP camps were the stories of indebtedness and praise to Rishad. Rishad Bathiudeen indeed had been a relentless community worker and has proven his leadership qualities among the people of the North, be they the driven away Muslims from the North in 1990 by the LTTE or the freed Tamils of the Wanni by the security forces in 2009.

Even the Tamil government officials were full of praise of this man and predicted a bright future for him in politics. Having broken away from the SLMC and having formed his own political party the ACMC, Rishad began to steer his presence in Colombo and in parliament as the savior of the displaced Muslims of the North. Being a driven away young refugee who experienced the worst of being an IDP in one of the refugee camps in Puttalum for more than a decade, his rise to popularity and political power did not receive the approval of some of the Muslim leadership and Colombo politicians, including the present leader of the SLMC Rauf Hakeem who was in the opposition then. Rishad Bathiudeen is a wonderful organizer and a people’s man, who could not be silenced or cut down by his opponents in Colombo. When dealing with his constituents, he excised his humbleness and went out of his way to help anyone in difficulty. To a Muslim, Rishad fulfilled his obligations as a brother Muslim. Rishad Bathiudeen is a god fearing person and this was seen in his expressions of the remembrance of being answerable to God ALMIGHTY ALLAH in all his deeds and the praising of the AlMighty for the blessing bestowed upon him.

Rishad Batiudeen became a very close confidant of Presidential Advisor Basil Rajapaksa and the President himself. Rishad was entrusted the presidential campaign responsibility of the Tamil speaking electorate of the country during the 2009/2010 elections. The Muslim Propaganda Unit (MPU) which functioned under the responsibility of Rishad Bathiudeen and overlooked by Basil Rajapaksa had a team of more than 12 full time volunteers from the freelance press and media and a battery of volunteers who had much election campaign experiences from the outstations functioning from their electorates. Many senior Muslim politicians, including some crossover’s from the UNP and the opposition who were seeking for opportunities to win favours from the Mahinda regime, showed their displeasure about this trust worthy entrustment and political operational campaign handed over to Rishad. The Muslim Propaganda Unit was operating from the 5th., floor of the new wing at Temple Trees and operational campaigns were run by a pro-Rishad and pro-SLFP Intellectuals with much political knowledge, campaign experience and understanding of the Muslims at large.

Rishad had the fullest support of the Muslims of the . North and the East, to his hard and organized reach out and campaigning abilities which the campaign reached out with feelings and the need to support HE. Mahinda Rajapaksa against Sarath Fonseka, when many of the so-called Muslim leaders, both political and community were clamouring to express their profound support to the opposition candidate. With the victory of HE. Mahinda Rajapaksa at the 2010 Presidential elections, Rishad Bathiudeen moved closer the government political hierarchy and the inner circle of HE. Mahinda Rajapaksa. Rishad Bathiudeen indeed had been a relentless community worker and has proven his leadership qualities which were once again showed at the general elections in 2010. With the posting of Rishad Bathiudeen to a very important Ministry “”…” the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, only next to the Ministry of Economic Development, with the development and progress of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce that was taking place, the grievances of the Muslim politicians around HE. Mahinda Rajapaksa began to pour out. Not only were there complaints made by his own community members, but even the opposition members attempted to tarnish his image. The role Rishad played in defending the stand of Sri Lanka at the Geneva HR conference in March this year and his direct participation in that Human Rights international “geo-political “political debacle” and his reach out to many Muslim Nations to support Sri Lanka, as directed by President Mahinda Rajapaksa, created the wroth of the International anti-Islamic institution and powers that may be up Rishad.

He was indeed a “my people, my people” politically elected representative of Mannar/Wanni. Rishad was available to all, but he failed to fulfill his promise to his own displaced constituents in resettling them back in their native villages during his tenure as Minister of Resettlement and Disaster Relief Services, in the aftermath of the security forces overriding the ruthless terrorist organization the LTTE, in May 2009. Rishad Bathiudeen the Minister himself a refugee who lived in an IDP camp in Puttulum after being driven out of Mannar in 1990. This set-back haunted him with many allegations that he had neglected the Muslims and helped out the Tamils, because he wanted to prove to the political powers that may be, he was not biased or communal in his dealings. Yet the cry of his opponents and specially the Catholic Church in the Mannar district was determined, as how Rishad has confided to some of his intimate colleagues, that the Catholic Church was now using the democratic weapon of complaints of discrimination and unfair distribution of lands in Mannar to the Muslim communities when it was just the opposite “”…” Lands of Muslims occupied by the LTTE maveeran families supported by the church. This, the Minister of Industry and Commerce has stood firm in all his statements and interviews to the media and press in the present context of the ongoing Union action by the lawyers, especially in the North.

It is therefore the need of the hour for all anti LTTE ideology, friends of Rishad Bathiudeen, political supporters against the larger conspiracy that has been hatched by the LTTE rumps in the West with the help of all anti-Sri Lankan forces to SLIENCE and WEAKEN a dedicated and honest, hardworking people loving politician of Sri Lanka from among the Tamil Speaking Minority Muslim community of the North who is a strong political pillar of the Government of HE. Mahinda Rajapaksa. It is only right for a “United and Joint” Muslim Community to stand up and support Rishad Bathiudeen.

  1. Marco Says:

    A bit OTT
Hope this is published in mainstream media.

Hey Ratanapala over to you to respond.
You have the Western media, Westerners, Catholic Church, NGO’s, Tamils and LTTE supporting Diasporas and the Colombians. -not the Muslims and the real natives(veddhas)
One big conspiracy to get your teeth into. Look forward to reading your rebuttal.

  2. Lorenzo Says:

    I agree.

Tamils voted in large numbers to Rishad at the last election. He is not a racist like TNA.

These TNA racists including Kasippu Joseph must be ELIMINATED for SL to remain peaceful.

  3. Melbourne Patriot Says:

It is thanks to the Muslims that Mannar can be protected from Ealmaists. More Sinhalese including the former Sinhalese residents must be settled in Mannar. It has been reported that the Mannar Magistrate is taking instructions from Rayappu Joseph the Bishop, and everyone knows who Rayappu is

  4. AnuD Says:

Else where I red, that Joseph Rayappu had written a letter to the SL – President describing Rayappu’s objections to the settling Muslims back in Mannar. So, there should be something going on behind the sceans.

what about the story that Rishad Bathiuddin threw stones to the court building or some thing like that and his supports pelted stones to the judgs’s house. Is it tru eor made up stories ?

  5. Nesta Says:

Muslim Ministers are not God-fearing. Rishad cannot be exempted. These Muslim Ministers are selfish to fill their pockets. They don’t care about Muslim Community. If they really have God-fearing, we don’t need to worry about Rishad, God will defend him.

  6. Dham Says:

Whay there is a group called Muslims in Sri Lanka in the first place ?
This is the only religiously united group who act as one political power as well. This power house shall be broken.
Injustice to any race , including to Sinhalese is bad. It is the Sinhalese suffered most.
But when it comes to religion ther is no other party called “Sri lanka Christian Congress”, “Sinhala Busshist Peramuna” or something that I know.

  7. lingamAndy Says:

    Dham
why there is a group called Sinhalese in Sri Lanka in the first place?
there is a group called Bhuddist in Sri Lanka in the first place?

  8. Dham Says:

    Lingam Machang,

You did not understand. There is no party called “Hindu congress”, “Muslim congress”, ” Christian Party” , Catholic Part” etc. Why there is “Muslim Party ” ?

There was no ” Sinhala Party” until your uncle set up “Tamil Congress”, your grave yard. Then the others started.

Mr. Rohana. I am only writing this content as a right of reply, because you have addressed it direct to me.
Rishad Bathiudeen being a God fearing person and the suspected telephone call he gave to the magistrate has no relevance to each other. His God fearing character highlighted is his piety in the article. The telephone call you have referred is a matter of accusation. In the petition filed by the group of lawyers, it is an accusation stated in the petition to the Court of Appeal. The Court of Appeal is clothed by the constitution makes an order (guilty or not-guilty) if the facts are established to the courts satisfaction. By law, The Court could not have refused the petition. So Rishad Bathiudeen has been summoned to the court to be present on September 5th., 2012 for the court to find out the facts. “The basis of law is that one is presumed innocent until or otherwise proven guilty. The Constitution of Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka – Chapter III – Fundamental Rights, Section/clause: (5) states clearly:
“Every person shall be presumed innocent until he is proved guilty”.
Therefore, even though the Court of Appeal has accepted the petition – Rishad Bathiudeen is still innocent of the accusation related to the telephone call, until proven to the satisfaction of the court that he is guilty.
With regards to your statement that the telephone call: (this is accepted as evidence now) is incorrect.
Chapter 14, Part One of the Evidence Ordinance (3) sates thus: ……..A fact is said not to be proved when it is neither proved nor disproved. Again, it is the court that will decide whether this is valid evidence or not. The rest of your content seems to me out of context and could be concluded as racist statements and is irrelevant to the introductory sentences of your comments. For the Rule of the Law to follow in this country, we have to be patience to await “Due Process”. The Court of Appeal is doing it.
But let me stress very strongly to you, that God fearing piety in any religion is a very strong force of character in any person and the obedience of it is – no ill or destruction, in material or person or otherwise will befall such a character without the will of God AllMighty.
The rest of your content seems to me out of context and could be concluded as racist statements and is irrelevant to the introductory sentences of your comments. Therefore I take is as rubbish content.
I do not wish to indulge with you on rubbish content. Please kindly note that this matter as closed with this comment.

  11. Marco Says:

I wish people would not digress into affairs that is not relevant to the article above.
I believe Mr Noor Nizam is defending the Minister in question and his credibility with the “alleged” incidents in Mannar without (i hope) any religious innuendos (beliefs etc)

Its commendable that Mr Noor Nizam repeats the fundamental rights of individuals “Innocence until proven guilty”
Perhaps, Mr Noor Nizam would like to enlighten us about Pattani Razeek and his fundamental rights to live and carry on his job. Has the Minister washed the blood of his hands?

  12. AnuD Says:

Rishad Bathiuddin certainly should be a good individual in comparison to the Minister Wimal Weerawansha who disregarded a Australian expatriate who went to meet him to his office.

  13. David Appuhami Says:

    Dear rohana and Marco
I don’t understand why Nizam and Rishad Bathiudeen are answerable to what has happened to Rizanna, the 15 years old sentenced to death according to Sharia law in Saudi Arabia. Mind you Rizanna also belongs to the same Muslim community in Sri Lanka and in this instant; they are the victims not the perpetrators of injustice.

A few years ago same thing happened with a British Nanny in the United States and punishment was severe whether it was sharia law or American law, killing an innocent child is a punishable offence anywhere in the world. If Nizam and Rishad Bathiudeen are answerable to what has happened to Rizanna, then with the same tone, can somebody blame the Buddhist community for having a paedophile as a Buddhist Mahanayake in London.

As you know, the Mahanayake of England (Sri Lankan origin)was sentenced to two years of imprisonment after finding him guilty of sexually abusing underage girl in London recently. So, stop this crap, There is nothing called collective responsibility when just one member of the community does something wrong.

  14. Lorenzo Says:

Compared to DISGUSTING TERRORISTS like Hackhim, Rishard is a million times better.

The BEST criteria for measuring who is good and who is bad is, what does the Tamil Diaspora or the Tamil racists say? If they say Rishad is BAD that means he MUST BE GOOD! If they say Rishad is GOOD that means he MUST BE BAD! Fullstop.

  15. Lorenzo Says:

Pattani Razeek is different to Rizana. Pattani Razeek was a LTTE activist killed by Kabir Hashim’s thugs.

  16. nandimitra Says:

What are we talking about. The man has broken the law he must be punished. Who cares whether he is good muslim or not. If he was a good muslim he won’t interfere with justice.

  17. Lorenzo Says:

It was Kasippu Joseph, TNA MPs and pro-LTTE magistrate who interfered with the law first!!

    Rishad only responded.

If Tamils stop threatening Muslims in Mannar, none of this would have happened.
If Tamils didn’t threaten Sinhalas, Nanthikadal would not have happened.

Learn to live with other communities or perish.

  18. Melbourne Patriot Says:

Stupid lawyers and others in colombo and other areas are protesting against Rishad. They don’t understand by doing that they are promoting the LTTE Magistrate and Rayappu Joseph.

Bring in more Muslims and Sinhalese to Mannar please, this is urgent

  19. Melbourne Patriot Says:

the way Wimal Weerawanse treated Stanley Perera from Australia is preposterous. He will have to pay for this one day.

Wimal Weerawanse despises Diaspora patriots and he does not want good advice.

We hear Wimal Weerawanse has gone into a frenzy of money making and sexual impropriety. What a u turn for once a good man.

  20. Melbourne Patriot Says:

Wimal Weerawanse was a good fellow when he was in JVP. After he went to sleep with the bad guys he has become bad. This is to be expected. This is what is now happenning in the the country.

  21. Dham Says:

The BEST criteria for measuring who is good and who is bad is, what does the Tamil Diaspora or the Tamil racists say? If they say Rishad is BAD that means he MUST BE GOOD! If they say Rishad is GOOD that means he MUST BE BAD! Fullstop. !

This is a fantastic theory invented by our king. Better than Darwin’s theory and the Big Bomb theory.

Now, I don’t read Tamil Nut, so assuming Bathiudeen is good ( i.e. Bad for Tamils), we must give more power to him.
This power balance should be maintained between the communities.

  22. Lorenzo Says:

    Dham,

If you can’t understand the logic of my theory here’s a riddle.

You come across a junction. 2 roads ahead. One going to where you want to go. Other going to hell. You don’t know which one. 2 persons at the junc. One always tells truth (Mr Mahawamsa). The other always lies (Mr Tamilnet).

How can you know what road to take?

  23. Lorenzo Says:

BTW you don’t know who tells truth and who lies. They are strangers and unwilling to tell their names.

  24. Dham Says:

I know this story. “Lorenzo Theory of the Truth” must be published. However, all those foreigners always take TamilNut as the truth.
I have no faith on both these minorities. We must keep both checked all the time. One willing to hand over Lanka to Saudis, the other to Tamil Nadu. On the other hand there is another group of posh people willing to hand over to England.
I feel like Dutugemunu kumaraya. Maharaja from the south leaving the job unfinished.
Meanwhile Lingam bugger is writing Chulawamsa !

  25. Lorenzo Says:

    I agree.

  26. aloy Says:

To elaborate on Lorenzo’s riddle at 10.28pm, the wayfarer is allowed to ask only one question and decide which road to take. This was a popular one in the UK about twenty five years ago and no one I knew gave the right answer.

  27. Lorenzo Says:

That’ right Aloy. Forgot to add that part.

    OK, the answer is:

Ask from ANYONE of the 2 what might the other person say if I ask the way to Paddington (or wherever it is).

e.g. If you ask the truthful guy what the other guy might say, the truthful guy will tell the truth which is the other guy would say the wrong road.

e.g. If you ask the cheat what the other guy might say, the cheat will tell a lie of what the other guy would say and point to the wrong road.

Take the OTHER road!! And you will always get it right!!

Similarly, if Tamil Dias-pariah or TNA or TN says “A IS GOOD” it means “A IS BAD”.

Always do the opposite to what the Tamil Dias-pariah or TNA or TN says.

  28. Dham Says:

I am a simple Sinhala man not aware of what is popular in UK.
My uncle asked me this trivia as “Dompeta Yana paara” with the same storey, more than 40 years ago.

It is not Dompeta yana paara you must ask the Tamil Nuts , ask them “Apaayata yana paara” ( road to hell).
Jokingly yes but actually we cannot depend on Tamil’s two nuts. They nowadays pretend to be Mahawamsa fellow, even though actually they are sakkiliwamsa.

  29. lingamAndy Says:

    Dham
    Mahawamsa , sakkiliwamsa.Chulawamsa…………
forget these wamsa… please learn to live in a real peace full wamsa ….Bhuddha wamsa !!!
modaya Chinhalavan & moddu Demila never learn !!!!!!!!

  30. Dham Says:

    Sorry Lingam Malli.
“Meanwhile Lingam bugger is writing Chulawamsa !” – I meant MS Mudalit bugger. He is a professor in Sinhala history re-writing.
I agree. No need to forget the Wamsa but Tamil Mallis should learn to live with king CHnhala Ayyas ( Annais).

  31. lingamAndy Says:

Tamil Mallis to live with CHnhala Ayyas , he need to learn Chinhala & Bhuddism first !!!
open free education centre in NEP our ethenic problm will disepire itself Anna!!!
We do not need Indian or Chinese to build our mother lanka , We can build ourself together !!!

Modaya Chinhalavan & Moddu Demila never learn !!!!!!!!

  32. M.S.MUDALI Says:

    Dham
I agree. Tamils must learn to live with Sinhalese. Sinhalese must know the historical facts before the sinhala racist politics.

My political hero is still SWRD Bandaranayake. I lived with Sinhala friends. When I joined Public Service I was writting my name in English but one day my friend Kobeigane Jinadasa asked to sign in TAMIL. The CC questioned me. But Jina and Ari asked about the official language law and defended me. Later Jayasuriya from Pollanaruwa supported Tamil speaking Muslims to write the pay sheets in Tamil.

I learned history when I was working at the dept. of cultural affairs where many RARE books are available for reading.

Historical facts must be told without any bias. I found the the reason why Bhikku Mahanama mentioned bad about Tamils in Maha Vansa. Mahanama and his nephew Sigiri Kasyappa were neglected by their relatives in Kanchipuram then capital of Pallava Royals.

  33. lingamAndy Says:

    M.S.MUDALI/Dham /Lorenzo

hero is still SWRD Bandaranayake-Agreed , If he did not pass Language Act (promot education in Maha vidiyalaya(m) , otherwise We (including myself) still living in a village collecting Cow’s shit for our living !

ofcause Great Man who has tried his best to (Chelva & BN agrrement) solve our Thousand (hundred) years problm forever !sadly failed ! When was tearing off the agrement, he said, We will pay for this , Yes, We have paid 200,000 lives !
have We learned any think ? NO , not yet !

sinhala racist politics/ Tamil racist politics !!!
I do not know how long We will live with this evil !!!
Unit in diversity – No short cut !

  34. Dham Says:

    Lingam Machang,
Collecting Cow’s shit for living is 1000 times better than commiting suicide for muderer Prabhakaran to live happily ever after. It is better than worshiping the whore Jeyalalita or MGR.
Before Banda Sinhala skhodarams had much less opportunities than vellala from the North.
Without SWRD none of poor people could become Engineers Doctors or Lawyers in Siri lanka.
He created liberation for masses. Without him people should sit London exams in English. That is all.
Who would benifit the most , then ?
