Patrick Brown, Conservative MP, for Barrie, Ontario

 House of Commons, Ottawa

 Dear Patrick:

I have just read your undated Press Release “”…” “ƒ”¹…”MP, Patrick Brown expresses concern over the worsening human rights situation in Sri Lanka.’

This was an amazing essay based on lies and misinformation.  You have, right through your career as an MP have shot your poison darts at Sri Lanka supporting the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) Tamil Diaspora.  Fair enough Patrick,  as I don’t expect any different as you seem to have a lot of  separatist-Tamils as friends in the GTA.  And I also notice that you have twinned with the NDP  Tamil MP for Scarborough-Rouge River, Rathika Sitsabaiesan, helping her to peddle the Channel 4 anti-Sri Lanka videos but never the one like “ƒ”¹…”Lies Agreed Upon’ that debunks the Channel 4 video “Killing Fields”.  And that tells much about your dis-affection for Sri Lanka.  And I don’t like it as I am originally from Sri Lanka and a good Sinhalese to boot and who is passionate about his Motherland.

And then you were so upset during a TV interview lambasting the Sri Lankan Government for not issuing you a visa to travel to Sri Lanka’s North to check on the Tamil refugee Welfare camps, when Canada had refused entry visas for five  Sri Lankan cabinet ministers and one being Douglas Devananda, the Tamil Cabinet Minister representing the Tamils in the North.  And I asked you in a letter, what is so important about you Patrick, that Sri Lanka should issue a visa for you, when  Canada had denied the same request to five  Sri Lankan cabinet ministers to enter Canada.  There is something called unspoken diplomatic reciprocity.  Perhaps, this was it. And you had little choice but to cut out your pretentious importance, and live with the Sri Lankan Government’s decision. That was too bad.

Now that I have established where you are coming from, let me now deal with your strange Press Release.

You said, “Mr. Brown is also greatly concerned over reports of attacks, continued harassment and detention of Jaffna student leaders.  He calls upon Sri Lankan authorities to exercise restraint, to respect peaceful demonstrations and release the student leaders immediately.”

No, you don’t release student leaders  “ƒ”¹…”immediately’ who are suspected to have thrown a petrol bomb into the office of the Sri Tamil Eelam Liberation Organization (TELO) around 3:30 A.M. on November 29, which is situated near the  University campus. You cannot expect the Government to let loose these students without interrogating their motives and what they were expecting to do in the future.  That is normal practice before their actions get out of hand and force the Sri Lankan government to take more drastic measures.

Patrick, just in case you missed this in today’s (6 December) The Ottawa Citizen on page 2 has this news item. “Quebec student protester sentenced, but says it’s not over.  A prominent figure in Quebec’s student protest movement has been sentenced to 120 hours of community service for a contempt of court conviction following the rowdy events of the so called Maple Spring”¦.”  This guy didn’t even throw a petrol bomb like the Tamil student  did in Jaffna,.

Well, Patrick, that is how Canada deals with students violent protests and not releasing them “immediately”.  It is no different from Sri Lanka.  So let’s cut out your pretentious, “I am Patrick Brown the Conservative MP for Barrie, and I say, We are Holier Than Thou, so do what I say.” That’s a lot of poppy-cock Patrick.

But let me nudge your memory and go back 42 years to October 16, 1970. Remember the FLQ  (Front de Liberation du Quebec) Crisis?  Oopes! Sorry Patrick, you wouldn’t know anyway, because you were born eight years later.  Nevertheless, here’s the story which paints you as a hypocrite.  This was the day when I flew into Ottawa when 100s of army helicopters were flying around and buzzing our plane too.

When Quebec’s FLQ terrorists were exploding cocktail bombs inside letter boxes in the city of Montreal  and Qubec, and these minor irritants escalated to become somewhat major terrorist incidents like kidnapping Quebec’s Labour Minister Pierre Laporte and killing him, Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau invoked the War Measures Act on October 16, 1970,  by an Order in Council thus  suspending the civil liberties of all Canadians without reference to the people through their elected representatives, and brought the Army onto the streets. They were at each street corner in Ottawa, Montreal and Quebec, and the Army were taking a lot of Canadians into custody on suspicion.  And mind you Patrick, none were released “immediately”.  Pierre Trudeau believed in the Cosmic Law of “ƒ”¹…”Cause and Effect’, and so do I, and so does the Government of Sri Lanka.

The following day Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau rebuffed critics of the deployment, declaring: “There are a lot of bleeding hearts around who just don’t like to see people with helmets and guns.  All I say is “Go on and bleed.”   I could well hear those  very words echo through Sri Lanka’s President Mahinda Rajapaksa to you, “Patrick Brown, go on and bleed.”. The lesson here is, what is good for the Canadian Goose is good for the Sri Lankan Gander.

.So lets not knock  the Sri Lankan Government that wants to nip terrorism in the bud like what the Canadians did in October 1970.  So try not be a hypocrite Patrick, as it wouldn’t wash well with the 92% of Sri Lanka’s population who are literate, who can read, who can understand the cunning of foreigners, and they are smart.  Just don’t undermine them.

Patrick, your Press Release also said: “Mr. Brown also urges Sri Lanka to remove military from Tamil populated areas and leave the administratin to civilian officials.”

What! You must be nuts Patrick.  The issue here is guarding the island’s sovereign territory from Tamil Tiger terrorists, when the Tamil Tiger rump  abroad are still working towards wanting their mono-ethnic, separatist Tamil racist state, Eelam.  We Canadians did not want Quebec to separate from the rest of Canada, so what’s all this ballyhoo, Patrick?   Sri Lanka is under pressure from Tamil Nadu which is separated by 24 miles of salt water and its Chief Minister Jayalalitha has threatened Sri lanka many a time that she would send an army to claim the Eelam for the Tamils. And Sri Lanka would be stupid to forget that it were during the ceasefire period (2002-2007) that the Tamil Tigers sneaked in 11 ship loads of sophisticated arms through the  Army un-manned eastern shores.  The Sri Lankan Government is not going to deliver on your stupidity in your Press Release. Not a snow ball chance in a hot hell.

The Tamils better learn to live with men in kaki, a they are indeed their guardians, as we Canadian have learnt to live with Canadian men and women in kaki uniform who happen to guard  our Canadian sovereign territory to be “Strong and Free”, from army camps at CFB Edmonton, Alberta; CFB Gagetown, New Brunswick; LFAATC Aldershot, Nova Scotia; CFB Kingston, Ontario; CFB Montreal, Quebec; CFB Petawawa, Ontario; LFCATC Meaford, Ontario; CFB Shilo, Manitoba; CFB Suffield, Alberta; CFB Valcartier, Quebec; CFB Wainright, Alberta;  and the Royal Canadian Navy stationed at Esquimalt, British Columbia; CFB Halifax, Nova Scotia;  and CFS St.John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador.   And the Canadian Forces based in Bagotville (Que), Borden (Ont.), Comox (BC), Cold Lake (Alta), Gander (Nfld), Goose Bay (Nfld & Labarador), Greenwood (NS), Kingston (Ont.), Moose Jaw (Sask), North Bay (Ont.), Sherarwater (NS), Trenton (Ont.), Mountgain View (Ont) Nunavut ( NWT) and Winnipeg (Man).

And there you are Patrick.  Canada seems to have covered the country pretty well with men and women in uniform spread across the country, and you being an outsider seem to gripe about Sri Lanka having Military personnel in the north of that island.  What’s wrong with you, Patrick?

Come on Patrick, give me a break!  Give Sri Lankans a break and keep your nose out of Sri Lanka’s business.

But more to the point keep away from the Tamils who pump you with lies and misinformation, especially your parliamentarian colleague Rathika Sitsabaiesan with whom you have twinned with, who was proud enough to tell us that she was a supporter of the Tamil Tigers, the  most ruthless terrorists in the world when she displayed their flag on her Face book pages when she won her riding.  And then goes on telling us that she was brought out of Sri Lanka when she was 5-years old because of discrimination.  You know what Patrick, she too has been disingenuous.  What  she failed to tell us is that she was brought over by her parents because she was exposed to the Tamil Tigers who very likely would have kidnapped  her with other young girls to brain wash them to become front-line fighters and suicide bombers.  Over half of the 388 suicide bombings were carried out  by young Tamil women.  And as 5-year old kid who may remember playing hop-scotch under a mango tree under the  hot sun in Jaffna, I doubt she would  have  recognized the word “”…”D I S C R I M I N A T I ON ever it was parachutd down to her from heaven on a Babi dolls back.

So please, stop being a disingenuous hypocrite when dealing on internal affairs of Sri Lanka as that island  had lost it patience and capacity to deal with ‘We are Holier than Thou’ nonsence from Canadian parliamentarians.

Have a good day and enjoy the quiet stillness of the first snowfall, that our world is made new with honesty and love.

Sincerely,

Asoka Weerasinghe (Mr.)

Please publish the response from Paddy Brown

Sri Lanka has suffered through 30 years of Tamil Tiger Terrorism and that is enough. Sri Lanka has suffered through 500 years of colonialism and its neo colonialist aftermath and that it also enough. Sri Lanka will do as it seems fit to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity come what may.

The International Community is with us except for the ex colonial scum and Christian Church. Just as our doughty Prof Nalin de Silva has said there are no “Springs” in Sri Lanka, so it is time we pointed out to this Canadian guttersnipe to keep his nose where it belongs – preferably among diaspora Tamil Tiger bums and not wander into lands where Christian Angels should fear to tread!

Sri Lanka will not be fooled by notions of Western Christian – human rights nor the so called democratic ideals for they are only tools they use to fool the gullible. These idiots cannot understand that they stand naked on the world stage for they are seen for their hypocrisy. They who have killed and maimed millions now want to teach us about human rights and democracy – what a load of poppycock!

It’s about time Sri Lanka openly encourage people to settle in the North and the East. Should also introduce an incentive scheme such as New start allowance, Subsidies for lands ect..
Sri Lanka is the only county in the world where the majority gets abused and unfairly discriminated by a minority (Tamil).

  4. Fran Diaz Says:

Tamils are fighting Caste/poverty Wars on the back of Sri Lanka. Sri Lankans are embarrassed to talk of ‘Caste Wars’ among Tamils. Outside sources are making use of the Tamil Caste Wars to ‘divide & rule’ – the old British method to undermine nations.
Tamils get all the benefits that the Sinhala & others of Sri Lanka get, including FREE education (including University) and Health Care, more than in Canada where only free health care is given.

Tamil Nadu, where Caste related discrimination & poverty starts, goes unaddressed. Why doesn’t the UN (Canada can pitch in too) handle the Tamil Nadu Caste/poverty problems first, then Sri Lanka will not have a so called ‘Tamil Problem’.
