Suddenly the Sinhalese Buddhists find themselves confronted with a new threat to their tolerant way of life!
Earlier it was by the Catholic action, now by the Muslim true believers.

In fact, be they Buddhists, Hindus, Catholics or even intelligent Muslims, they must be concerned if they are to avoid Pakistani or Bangladeshi like outcome to this ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”free thinkingƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ nation. Any civilized normal being would wish their progeny to live in prosperity and in tolerant surroundings, and avoid being stoned or getting their heads chopped off by living in a spontaneous manner.
Writers such asƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Mr. Hameed Abdul Karim , and Mr. M Zubair wishes to placate BuddhistƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s sensitivities. But are they twisting the facts in order to lull them into a state of slumber? Let me be more specific and give an assessment as to how these two concerned Muslim scribes misjudged the situation. I am specifically speaking of the two articles as headlined below:

There are glitches too visibly, such as year of birth of the prophet of Islam: In fact he was born in 570 AC and he started his mission when he was around 40. The real wars of Islamic imperialism started when the Muslim hordes attacked the then known world power; the Zoroastrian Iran.
Now, before we start questioning the motivations of this Judeo Christian sect, we should grasp their core dogma and aspirations.
Indeed the vital points of the dogmatic position between this Judo Christian sects and BuddhistsƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ should be made absolutely comprehensible before we venture any further in this analysis.
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ The core dogmas of the Judeo-Christians (which include Jews, Christians and Muslim) being:
- Belief in a monotheist ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”creatorƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ God.
- A Soul being attached to an individual (Only the human animal is rewarded with such a soul Judeo-Christian tradition) Indeed God is supposed to be the creator of all living beings.
- In fact He is also the creator of hell (To punish the sinners).
- Paradise/ heaven (to reward the true believers).
Now there are so many sects of Christians, and plenty of bickering amongst them, that trying to understand what they truly mean, is rather cumbersome.
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Of these, the dominating ones are the Catholics, Protestants and the Eastern Church.
But we find the major sects within Islam, which has 1.3 billion followers as:
Sunni, Shiite, Kharijis, Druze, Alawi, Ismali, Ahmadiyyah , Sufi and Wahhabi Movement:
Why so many different sects when they essentially have the same core belief as pointed above.
In fact belonging to a sect is like having membership in a club.
How so? One gets security in numbers, camaraderie and you scratch my back and I scratch yours, thing! And a feeling of acceptance through the conditioned values is vital to the average human animal.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Hence manner of hair growth through which they under pin their association. By covering their body or uncovering it, this way or that, by a whole lot of innuendoindicates the religious club that they belong.
Indeed each and every sectarian club will inform that: It is through their particular clubƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s recipe that one can get ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”everlasting salvationƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ whatever that means.
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Then there are the Hindus. They believe in a creator, sustainer and a destroyer of the universe and its cyclic working. In their tradition all creatures are rewarded with a soul. Indeed these souls are in a reincarnation process, though a new reincarnated position is conditional to an action and reaction process.
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ BELIEF IN A SOUL AND ITS REPERCUSSIONS:
I find no other dogma that conditioned such a hostile and an illiterate attitude towards its fellow creatures, as that of Judeo-Christian systems of belief. This through a simple definition for which the Jews must be held responsible.
I am speaking of a ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”soulƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ and a ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”no-soulƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ definition.
Now join this above ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”no-soulƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ and add another tricky word called ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-kosher” of the Jews and exploitation of lesser creatures evidently becomes manifest.
Believe it or not ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-kosher” of the Jews is the forerunner ofƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-halal” and not one thought out by Prophet Mohamed.
Indeed there is no other word that defined the self-centeredness of our species so explicitly as the separation of man from beast through the use ofƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ the word ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”soulƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢.
Human triumph above the rest of the living beings is made explicitly clear in Genesis (IX 2-3):
The fear of you and the dread of you all shall be upon every beast of the earth and upon every fowl of the air, upon all that moveth upon the earth and upon
all the fishes of the sea; into your hand are they delivered. Every moving thing that liveth shall be ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”meatƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ for you.
In such manner the rest of the creatures were demoted once and for all, as soul-less entities, and allowed to be utilized and become meat on our table.
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ No wonder Buddhists are hated most ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ hated! For we find:
- They have no belief in a creator God.
- Nor do they believe that there is a soul to a person.
- There is no belief in a paradise/ heaven or hell where people are punished for following or not following this ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”fictitiousƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ God injunctions.
- If anything, they believe that heaven and hell is found here on earth and hell starts with oneƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s birth.
Buddha is a historical figure, and ended his ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”sansaricƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ journey and he is no more. But before he embraced the bliss of Nirvana he gave the world his findings.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ These he summed up as what is now
famous. The Four Noble Truths.”
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ The first truth is a recurring theme in the Buddhist scriptures and usually formulated thus:
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ “What, Bhikkhus, is the Noble Truth of Suffering? Birth is suffering, decay is suffering, death is suffering; sorrow, lamentation, pain, grief and despair is suffering. To be separated from the pleasant is suffering; to be in contact with the unpleasant is also suffering. In short, the Five Aggregates of existence connected with attachment are all suffering.”
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Now unlike any other savior or Prophet, he did not promise any ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”virgins to be defloweredƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ or ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”live forever in an eternity heavenly abode with his fatherƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ sort fantasy!
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ He asked people to recognize facts of life and informed them that as long as there is ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”sensory greedƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ there would be suffering. In short if there is sensory greed, there is life.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ And if there is no sensory lust, life itself can not exists or sustained.
But strangely enough in the Islamic world, Buddhists are called the Godless and worshippers of stone idols. And for that very reason, they were massacred from the Borders of China to Pakistan. India would have had a similar plight if Hinduism had not returned. Indeed the Indians created a new creed ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”SikhismƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ to fight the marauding Muslim hordeƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s constant attacks on its borders.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚
Now the question is, would Lanka be ready to fall into the clutches of the believers of ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”religion of peaceƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ ? Just as the Jaffna Tamil Catholics thought, they would have their Eelam easily. I doubt it very much as I would proceed to show in the future the outlining of this article. (Part II)

As far as I am concerned, the most vital life principle is to own a ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”freedom of thoughtƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢. Combine this with good health and one has the world in his palms. Simply said, Saudi Arabia is a country I would never wish to set foot on because it lacks any culture and freedom of thought is none existing.
That since BuddhaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s philosophy was embraced in Lanka; we have NOT HOUNDED ANYONE FOR THEIR BELIEF OR CHOPPED any ones head due to adultery. Thanks to the world wise Sinhalese Buddhists, these not so ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”self evident valuesƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ were planted in Thailand, Burma, Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos.
The whole world visits them and enjoys these self evident freedoms. In Sri Lanka we lost the easy going manner as the women in time became chattel to Muslims, Catholics and or even Hindus. Indeed we were like Thai people and more open but all such easy going life qualities have been relegated to dustbin of history.
Buddha requested us to question any ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”so called truthsƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ even when it is supposed have been uttered in his name. The very reason that these countries were moderately healthy places to live.
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ In contrast; the blind belief is a necessity for Islam to grow, that together with the production machines for breeding.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Mr. SƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ informs that:
The Sinhala Buddhists of Sri Lanka and the Muslims have lived very cordially and peacefully for centuries and there had been several intermarriages between the two communities and they are all living very happily including this writer’s son and niece who are married to Sinhalese.
Now thatƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s good news indeed. But I am compelled to pose this vital question to you Mr. S. Are any of these married Sinhalese women allowed to remain Buddhists and bring their husbandsƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ over to join her faith? Then we come to the trickier question; can these women if they wish it so, be allowed to maintain their Buddhist identity and let their husbandƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s practice has own precepts?
If you answer this question truthfully, then you are a great man my friend. I will be this much truthful to you now; if my daughter married a Muslim I would reject her, for I think she has lost her freedom of ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”mindƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ and not for any other racial reason as such.
Let me be more concise, and as the readers too need elaboration for this uncouth statement of mine.
So let us explore what that means and why you will never let the world know why.
Many people in the world are not aware that Islam has a unique law, the law of ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”ApostasyƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢! Which makes an outright mockery of the UN Charter of Human Rights?

Does Islam proscribe the death penalty for Muslims who wish embrace another religion?

This is agonizing news for us the Buddhists for we are nothing but Buddhists and disgusting idol worshippers.
Why this particular exception to the Buddhist? In fact the prophet informs:

Buddhists are not idol worshippers though it may look like that to the mindless Muslims. The historical Buddha is no more. He has reached his goal and passed away.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ You cannot get any benefactions or presents from him.
The Sinhalese idiots are shouting concerning Halal food which they have discovered newly. Whenever they have gone to a Muslim eating place they were served with food that fulfills Muslim dietary rules. But it was not flouted as such till the right time, which is about now.
Halal is an Arabic word meaning “lawful” or “permitted,” but it is generally used in reference to food that fulfills Muslim dietary rules. Halal is an Islamic method of slaughtering the animal which is carried out with a single cut to the throat while the animal is conscious. When the animal is slaughtered under Muslim dietary laws, it is left to bleed out while conscious, in fear and in pain. Obviously does the animalƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s pain and fear matter as they have done under rituals mantra invoked while the animalƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s life is slowly ebbing away. As the animals have no soul, does it matter a little pain of a soulless creature as long as the soul filled believers do the correct thing and reach paradise?
Why Islam Forbids Pork?ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚
Mr.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Rashid ShamsiƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ of theThe Muslim World League writes in the Journal, Rajab 1420 – October 1999 as follows:
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Take a look at the nature of the pig for example. The pig is naturally lazy and indulgent in sex; it is dirty, greedy and gluttonous. It dislikes sunlight and lacks the spirit and will to “fight.” It eats almost anything, be it human excreta or anything foul and unwholesome. Amongst all animal flesh, pork is the favored cradle of harmful germs. Pork also serves as a carrier of diseases to mankind. It is for this reason that its flesh is not suitable for consumption.
In which case why such a foul creature was let loose among the true believers is beyond me. But the real reason the Jews knew. It was in order to avoid the trichina worm. Today with the modern methods of preparation that worm can be eradicated. But he keeps that information under the hat and he informs :-
Indeed allƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ the ancient AbrahamƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢sƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ religionƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s important precepts such as abstaining from pork and circumcision of males have been borrowed.
The only positive precept he added was ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”desist from infanticide of female infantsƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢. But this too was a shrewd move on his part.
The only additional ritual he specifically added was Ablution/Bath.
ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Sahih Muslim (2.0435) writes that Allah will not accept any prayers without ablution. The rules on Islamic ablution are also quite elaborate; sometimes it might be queer, and mindƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬’boggling. A devotee will wash with water his/her hands, face, feet; pour water inside nostrils, then gush it out, gurgle water and pass wet hands around his/her neck to complete the ritual of ablution. There are strict rules on the number of times each limb should be washed, and how many times water is to be gurgled.
The ablution is not just a cleansing processƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬‚for the body per se, for as a matter of fact, even after ablution plenty of dirt and pollution remains in the body, but the meaning of the ritual is to expunge the accumulated sins. In reality, a Muslim can commit any number of sins, but by performing ablution all the acquired sins committed prior to ablution will be expiated. Sahih Muslim (2.0476) writes that if you perform ablution all sins will come out of your body and even from your nails. To entice the Muslims to the complete surrender to this endless daily ritual, Sahih Bukhari (1.4.161) writes that if a Muslim performs perfect ablution Allah forgives his sins committed between two prayers.
The third important rule is that, having eaten your food; you must ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”lick your fingersƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢.
The fourth important rule is that having licked your finger (or having someone licked for you), you must ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”¹…”lick the dishƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢, either by holding the dish near your mouth or by bending your mouth to the dish. Here are the reasons why you must lick the food bowl.
After eating lick the bowl; the bowl will seek forgiveness for you. (Sunaan ibn Majah, 4.3271)
After eating lick the dish; the dish will ask Allah for your forgivenessƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚¦ (Sunaan Tirmidhi, 1121)
AƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Sahih Muslim (23.5029, 2030) says that when you drink, you must drink in three gulps.
Obviously one must remember the landscape he was coming from and the Arabs of his time.

Well done Mahinda for alerting us. We do face threats from well organised religions groups such as Catholics, Christians and Muslims. As Mahinda indicated, Lanka’s fate is similar to Buddhist nations along the silk road, pending eradication, unless Sinhalese wake up and corrective steps are taken. Already we are on our way to eradication as we have lost the North, East, Hill country and now Colombo. I am in no way promoting racism as many Tamils and Muslims have contributed to the development of the country. It is the extremists with a WARPED MIND, who are dangerous. In general I agree with what Mahinda has said except the statememt we are a ‘ free thinking’ nation. Majority are Buddhists and Buddhism as followed in Lanka is a religion. Any religion introduce bias and prevent the mind from free thinking. The reason Nalanda Buddhist got killed is because they did not think. Buddhist beliefs of Nirvana, sansare, Karma, rebirth are ancient unproven Indian blind faith beliefs. The danger with Buddhism is that it us too passive and does not have a mechanism for defence.
Many naïve people do not realise that Sri Lanka lost it Sinhala Buddhist status long time ago. Now we should stop further decline.
We can stop further decline if Sinhala Buddhists develop intelligent adaprtive behaviour. However many refuse to adapt.

Buddhism is a vital part of our heritage and need to be safeguard and protected. Specially from Muslims and various forms of Christians, out to destroy our heritage. However, we need not blindly follow it and get eradicated, specially when Muslims are around with increasing numbers and when conversion is only one way. It is always Buddhists converted to Muslims and not the reverse. In the presence of aggressive religions such as Catholism and Islam, I wonder if passive Buddhism is the way forward to avoid a ‘Nalanda’.
We may benefit from an open discussion on why the Buddhists in the silk route got eradicated so that we do not meet the same fate. Nalanda experience is an important land mark and Indians have demonstrated intelligent adaptive behavior, by recognizing the dangers of Buddhism. As mentioned earlier, the evidence of our shrinking living space, vastly reduced, indicate that we are on the decline. The best we could do is to halt or slow down the decline. The problem may be due to the Buddhist belief system itself. Let me quote from Mahinda: “in short, the Five Aggregates of existence connected with attachment are all suffering.”
There are over 6 billion humans on earth. many living in extremely harsh conditions and poverty. To my knowledge only the Buddhists have the view of the world as suffering. The rest get on with it and see how to overcome challenges and how to survive. Many in the West attempt to make use of every second alive. Only the Buddhists appear to have a strange way of ending the suffering, by seeking Nirvana and exiting from ‘sansare’. As Darvin found out, the world is tough and only the fittest will survive. Only the fittest that display intelligent adaptive behaviour will survive. Sadly Buddhists have no strategy for intelligent adaptive behavior, but only to seek Nirvana to end suffering. Many in the West do not see living as ‘suffering’. Some even see it as fun and enjoy the challenges living brings about.
All these beliefs on suffering may even make Buddhists depressed and non competitive

When our very survival is threatened we go to war (on internal matters, never with outside countries). Isn’t that good policy for others too to follow ? We are waiting for others to catch up with us.
As for international games, we have to learn to ‘play Chess’, and anticipate and protect ourselves before the event happens.
Let us learn from our own history, learn history of the world, present & future problems and who creates them by what means, Sc&Tech, etc. have to be used in future ways to protect ourselves.
As the Brits would say : ‘that is the decent thing to do’.

Please bear with me if I go into a bit of Philosophy here. There is a divide in the way the west views ‘the enemy’ and the east views ‘the enemy’.
In the west, ‘the enemy’, the Other, is the outsider, a person or a group of people, or a country of people. In the east, the emphasis is mostly on the ‘enemy within’ each person, in the form of Lobh (Lust), Moh (Greed), Krodh (Anger) and so on (as in Buddhism & Hinduism), and those are the attributes to be eradicated. These are the negative aspects to be removed to achieve Nirvana or Union with God. Ignorance of our true nature (of the Godhead within us all) is the greatest enemy of mankind.
The east accepts that all human beings have some frailty that has to be addressed and gently removed through methods such as Meditation & Contemplation. It is a way to prepare for the inevitable demise of each person in death. As a result, there is a difference on how problems are approached.
This is why the east does not see great use in spending money on defence and killing people. If everyone on Planet Earth thought on these lines, there would be no wars and resources would be used in life supportive ways only.
Buddhism, Hinduism, Christianity, Islam, viewed in proper perspective, all say the same thing – Support Life. Buddhism will never ‘die’. We are entering a new era of communicating the truth, and the truth at the core of Buddhism will always survive,
as will the core truths in every other religion.

I must confess that I too was trying to ridicule those fools who are on an organised attack on Buddhism. But I have been stopped, my comments deleted and being moderated. Where is the justice ?
It is up the editor who spend his own time and money to do so, based on his beliefs. I do not want to be a fool explaining these unscrupulous idiots on an agenda to destroy Buddhism. As a devout Buddhist I too agree that “aiding people like Ben Silva” generate a lot of very bad kamma, greater than killing a being, because it is helping to kill the Buddha Sasana. IT+journalism is a very very dangerous field.
