President Rajapakse’s lessons from the US-Resolution against Sri Lanka
Posted on March 24th, 2013

Shenali WadugeƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚

The Rajapakse Government needs to take a reality check without delay. The US and allies inclusive of India are not concerned about the Sinhalese, Tamils, Muslims or how many died, disappeared or were resettled or the scale of development taking place. These are all smokescreens to hide the true agenda. They are coming after the RajapakseƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s and no one else. Giving Sri LankaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s assets and resources to India thinking they will return favors, allowing India to control strategic bases is not likely to make RajapakseƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s predicament any better for his departure would end up a competition on who gains access before the other. By that time Sri LankaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s leaders may be replaced and held accountable for a host of things that can be compiled within minutes and Sri Lankans would find too late that their resources had been handed over to the enemy as well. This is the scenario unless the leaders wake up and take stock of the situation. The solution is not to strike deals thinking they will be let off the hook (because thatƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s not how things work).

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ There is more than a possibility that India functioning as USƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s ally in the Asian region may well be forging these deals on behalf of the US as a strategic intention to eventually formulate a base in Sri Lanka. With 72million in Tamil Nadu unable to start even the minutest guerilla movement in Tamil Nadu for independence the likelihood of Tamil Nadu seeking separation looks all but a dream only. Besides, Tamil Homeland was just a mirage to create a faƒÆ’†’ƒ”š‚§ade and a raison dƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢etre for foreign presence in Sri Lanka. The cries, calls and demos overseas works to perfection to interfere in Sri Lanka using every excuse possible. To obtain permanent residency Tamil ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-economic refugeesƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ would agree to anything (we may need to add some Sinhalese as well showcasing why ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-economicƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ reference is appropriate). These Diaspora elements and Tamil politicians are fooling Tamils big time with Eelaam Homeland.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Expose the worldƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s HR abuses

Our mistake has been and continues to be that Sri Lanka has failed to make use of the facts in our favor. We have been given the international podium and ended up delivering half-hearted appeals. Why have we not used every international podium to table the statistics of our civilian deaths, destruction to property, assassinations by LTTE? That fault lies squarely with the external affairs ministry and in all probability with its head whose records have shown nothing impressive except consistently functioning as a colonial-slave agreeing to everything the West suggests. If we are in a democracy why should any member nation feel shy to voice human rights violations of the accusers in diplomatic eloquence? We did not suggest to do a Mervyn style showdown. The art of diplomacy is that there are beautiful ways to put the truth or even lies across. We need to be brave enough to do so.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Expose IndiaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s war crimes in Sri Lanka

There has never been any mention by Sri LankaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s foreign service of IndiaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s role in creating and nurturing the LTTE and this is a grave error for by omission we are voluntarily shielding and shouldering IndiaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s crimes. India doesnƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢t give a damn what Sri Lanka thinks so why should we feel sorry for India? Keeping diplomatic relations is one thing but when things need to be said to correct distortions Sri Lanka must act as a sovereign nation. ThereƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s no point submitting before nations and then crying that we are not being treated as a sovereign nation. ItƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s time we acted like one.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Investments and investing

The trap post-conflict was the requirement of Sri Lanka to showcase a plan of development and resettlement. By all accounts Sri LankaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s achievement within 3 years of a 30 year conflict ending deserves kudus given that those accusing have millions yet to resettle and not a single plan to even do so. No resolutions against them, no UNHRC monitoring desk in their countries ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” but thatƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s how things work and this is the definition of ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-democracyƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-you say what we want you to say ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” you do what we want you to doƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ However, investments are viewed not on what merits the nation but on what goes into oneƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s pocket. Possibly this is how investments detrimental to the countrysƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢ sovereignty has come to be accepted despite plenty of warnings. The Sampur coal power plant was one such warning. Those that took part on behalf of Sri Lanka may like to explain to the nation if electricity to Sri Lanka is to be dictated by India the dire situation we may face given that India is a proven unreliable ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-friendƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚. Authorities need to relook at all IndiaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s investments and finally accept that they have allowed India far too many leverages because of their personal gains. Never forget MubarakƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s fate and all his close associates now being hounded one after the other. That can very well happen to the leaders in Sri Lanka.

Foreign policy blunders

When the nation is proud of our armed forces why should the external affairs ministry feel shy to also articulate that pride? What stops them from being passionate enough to put things in proper perspective? Do the US / NATO apologizes for its crimes and these are far more than the ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-supposedƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ crimes Sri Lanka is accused of? How many of these international representatives even know what LLRC stands for? How many have read the recommendations, the LLRC Action Plan or even the dossiers compiled by the Ministry of Defense? For that matter how many in the External Affairs Ministry in SL has done so as well.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ The UNHRC results were because of en masse block votes ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” US probably told these countries how to vote whilst only a few nations defied and they deserve our gratitude. Yet, even if this is the case it is obvious that Sri LankaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s diplomats overseas are not projecting the true picture articulated to make at least the people and Governments broads understand the true picture. A handful of tourists who come and see the truth do a far better service in their blogs. The rest is done by the expat nationalistic patriots who painstakingly write and do whatever possible to erase the anti-Sri Lanka image but they donƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢t get the applause they deserve.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ This is not a suitable way to move forward.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ We need to have a clearly articulated policy. IndiaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s policies do not change and it is the same for all other nations. What ails the country is that all of the key positions given to senior officials have been run according to their own personal thinking ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” thus when Sri Lanka should remain sovereign and unitary many have been promoting devolution and federalism and some would say functioned as agents of foreign nations. This has contributed to the detrimental agreements signed over the years because the political leadership lacks the knowledge to cross question and those tasked to do the job end up pushing their agendas. Was this not why agreements such as PTOMS, ISGA, 2002 Cease Fire had been signed? None of these officials deserve any portfolio or peopleƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s respect for being part of these agreements that more or less sold the country.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ It is these same officials who have not cared to place on record Sri LankaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s objections to a NSA over and above being a terrorist organization to be treated on par with a democratically elected Govt of a sovereign nation. How many raised objections to the reference ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-both sides of the conflictƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚. If this being the case, why has Sri Lanka not refused ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-unilateral accountabilityƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ and insisted UN punish the LTTE for its crimes and its mouthpieces overseas are living as foreign residents promoting themselves as human rights champions to camouflage their terrorist ideology. Should officials not be insisting that they be charged for their links to LTTE especially financing terror?

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Why have we not pursued legal actions for distortions ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” Channel 4 and NDTV plus a host of others using distorted images and fabricating stories.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ The external affairs ministry has not boldly carried out doable goals to protect the nation.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ A key blunder was to not articulate our military offensive under correct terminology. Advisors especially the legal and foreign ministry experts should have made sure every statement made by Sri Lankan authorities clearly articulated that we were applying Just War, we declared war on a non-state actor in an armed conflict moreover given that there are no IHL for terrorists, by virtue of LTTE being defined as a terrorist entity further enhancing their position from a NSA and in claiming that civilians were voluntarily with them their ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-civilianƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ status was in question. Reference to civilians should have all the time being in inverted commas because of the States inability to vouch that they were truly civilians. Authorities should have clearly articulated that the fact that Sri Lanka launched the ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-humanitarianƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ operation on top of the armed conflict was a gesture that no foreign military would have opted to do and it was because of the compassionate principles that Sri Lanka adopted that 5000 soldiers sacrificed their lives to save close to 300,000 Tamil ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-civiliansƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Why did we fail to put these legal shields in place ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” who is responsible for this major fallacy that has allowed Sri Lanka to be humiliated for no reason?

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Sri LankaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s Policies must be clear

We need to take a clear stand on 13a ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” if so, replace the provincial council system with a district based one delegating ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ…-devolutionƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ”š‚ relevant to day to day affairs only. All policy decisions/changes etc made at the center. The corrupt manner provincial councils are governed is enough reason for no delegation to be given. The ground is that no system can be introduced to satisfy foreigners if its going to end up eating into the pockets of the people.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ With North populations dwindling allocation of parliamentary seats need to be reduced. Election system of voting parliamentarians need to change. The entire country is dissatisfied. First past the post system will be a good option. No political group should be allowed to bribe the nation and secure ministerial posts. The policy makers need to seriously sit down and see what ails the country and find methods to address them. Every second wasted thinking that everything is honky dory will end up adding a second to their eventual overthrow.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Politicians cannot think they are elected to power simply to attend events, ceremonial openings and travel round the island in motorcades. Their families cannot think they too hold ministerial rights as well. Politicians need to spend time to read, to be updated on world affairs and be more informed than they are currently.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ The lessons:

  • Rajapakse Government needs to realize that every diplomatic and international effort taking place is to oust them from power. Ignoring this and going about affairs in a way that gives fuel to demand ouster at local levels is committing hara kiri. The gameplan is to make Sri Lanka hang itself by its own follies. Allowing unfettered corruption to the levels that the Public end up having to pay enormous and unbearable cost of living is likely to lead to the RajapakseƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s paving the way for their own dismissal. Wake up to these realities. People unable to handle state institutes should not be kept ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” whether family or friend.
  • If the armed forces sacrificed their lives to save the country ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” it must not be allowed to be demeaned, devalued or destroyed as a result of selfish personal commercial motives of a handful at the cost of the entire nation.
  • Foreign Policy the pinnacle of what Sri LankaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s future is all about cannot be given to a one-man show whose record is questionable. The foreign policy of Sri Lanka must tap Sri LankaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s ancient historical past as those leaders had proven track records of domestic and international skills and diplomacy. Place of Buddhism, its laws and practices is most suitable in a world declining in values, natural resources and other vicissitudes. Place of Buddhism cannot be set aside because those holding portfolios personally think it is not fashionable enough.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ There is much that needs to be done. Those that love the country enough not to betray are many still ƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢¢”š¬…” those who do are made to look many because they buy themselves access to Sri LankaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s media. Their actions may win them accolades amongst themselves but in the eyes of the rest they are looked down upon and they know so too.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Inspite of all this, the Government needs to be aware of the realities, who the snakes around them are and devise how best to come out of the situation by properly putting the country on track taking into consideration the dynamics that prevail to divide it.

The only interest the US( with Robert Blake on full target) and India (where Sonia G has a personal grudge against Sri Lanka – she saw her diseased husband being attacked by a seaman in Colombo) has is to divide Sri Lanka and create the Tamil Ealam. Unfortunately many including the writer of the article can’t understand this. Ealam is coming sooner than we thought, especially because our politicians play havoc

    good article..

its time to open eyes and come to life. half sedated MPs in the government as described knows nothing what so ever is going on in the world. as mention very well the simple motive for the existence of the our own MPs are for the personnel economical benefits for them, do they really care about the country. the deals that were made on all the contracts on the developments and other projects has made these MPs billionaires and do they really care about the country..

our ministers only worry about two thing that is the vote base and the money to the kitty. i am not surprised if this post was removed.. as it was before..

  3. Lorenzo Says:

Looks like he is NOT capable of learning lessons.

We must rebuild a society that loves its enemies as well, President Mahinda Rajapaksa stated during the opening of a monument marking the massacre of 31 Buddhist monks in the Nuwaragalatenna area in Arantalawa on July 2, 1987.

A society that loves its enemies but hates its friends!!!

  4. Lorenzo Says:

    Breaking news

An AL QAEDA funded major TALIBAN rally is launched in SL today in an attempt to AROUSE peaceful people by blaming Bodu Bala Sena and whitewashing the Muslim Congress that called Buddhist monks terrorists.

ARAB news agencies have given it wide publicity.

Cut outs of Osama Bin Laden are readied for display.

  5. S de Silva Says:

Well done and thank you Shenali. Saves me repeating what you have already said! I sincerely hope your words do NOT amount to “Pearls before Swine” in the GoSL . You have outlined beautifully the gross incompetencies of the Sinhalas in power – a pitiful Deaf and Dumb lot. Next time you expand on this topic, try and include the fact that our incompetent media bods did not ‘sanitise’ in advance the statement by the Hon Def Secy before release to the world by adding that the Hon. Minister’s reference to “Zero War Casualties” was clearly an honest HOPE (since there has been no war in human history with Zero Casualties) – it should not have been taken literally though, preventing all the foreign media hounds from picking that and going to town as yet another stick to beat up SL as liars ! .

  6. mario_perera Says:

“We must rebuild a society that loves its enemies as well” – so said MR. And where does he say it? At the site of the massacre of 31 very young monks. I sometimes wonder whether MR and his nearest and dearest are losing their grip on the country’s steering wheel.

The LTTE attacked the three bastions of Sinhala Buddhism: Anuradhaura, Kandy, and a place in the Mahiyangane area so dear to Sinhala Buddhists. These were not random attacks but were revelations of their intent, of dismantling the foundations of Buddhism. The attacks were on the sacred Bo Tree, the Temple of the sacred tooth relic, and the young monks (the future of Buddhism) in the historic Mahiyangane region.

Now what is this talk of forgiveness at a time that the separatist war is getting full scale Western and Indian support? Is this an attempt to show compliance with the West’s hypocritical and bogus Christian ideology of forgiving and forgetting? Is MR trying to steer this nation in accordance with hypocritical Christian values? Probably his next utterance will be that this nation must turn the left cheek to its enemies who are striking it on the right cheek. I sometimes wonder whether MR is trying to pose as a ‘born again’ Christian to win the favour of the Christian West. It is also note worthy considering the nature ofhis discourses which are more and more moralizing. It is like Nero playing on his lyre while Rome burned!

Instead of preaching religious values (that is what Temples of all denominations do all the time with hardly any success) why does not MR and his clan get on with the job of steering this nation out of the rot into which the Wild West and its ‘best friend neighbour’ India has put in into?

As a Buddhist country it is best to call to mind what the Lord himself said: when one has a arrow stuck in one’s body, the primary intent of the victim is to pull the arrow out. The West and India have shot arrows into the nation’s body. MR has been elected to pull them out. The biggest of these arrows is the 13A legislation. Pull it out first and the rest of the arrows will fall by themselves.

MR keep this ‘love your enemy stuff’ for your next visit to the Pope or for a friendly outing with Cardinal MR.

Get rid of 13th . Keep india at arms length.
Plese realise that already u have lost half of your voters because of the unfettered corruptions of your regime. Others support u only because there is nobody else in the vicinity to safe guard sinhala rights and not that they think u are good.

To be frank – most of the voters like GHOTABHAYA than u… period…

  8. Fran Diaz Says:

War causalities in the west are called “Co-lateral damage’, and placed in a certain context that ‘we are sorry, but it was part of war’.
Our folk use English words in a lose manner, they do not choose their words carefully as should be done. The need for teaching good English just to communicate properly with the rest of world is very important. Winston Churchill used words very successfully during WW II times to move the entire British Empire to fight Hitler and his Third Reich. The right words at the right time can save the Nation.

Thank you, Shenali, for use of language to warn the Sri Lanka Nation.

It is true that, as she says : “The gameplan is to make Sri Lanka hang itself by its own follies”. GoSL & the President must now remove the 13-A which brings a sense of INSECURITY to the Nation. The Bodhi Bala Sena and all other Peace Loving citizens should use non-violent methods to spread the message FAST that the 13-A must go. While the 13-A exists, Separatist ideas will live on.

  9. Eusense Says:

Excellent and thoughtful critique. Hopefully, the President and other relevant officials have access to this article. From day one the government’s handling of the public relations was deplorable. Perhaps the Sri Lankan culture contributes more to it. Sri Lankans try hard to be faultless and talks in black and white while the west has mastered using gray areas for their advantage. I was amazed when Sri Lanka declared absence of civilian casualties at the end of the war. What can go wrong in accepting civilian casualties and declaring that every effort was taken to minimize such to occur and stress how the SLDF were fighting an unidentifiable enemy? The government should have made an assessment of the total Tiger combatants, now believed to be in the vicinity of 40,000, and pronounce them as the major casualties. Furthermore, none of the Tamils have so far claimed their next in kin have been Tiger combatants though they incriminate the SLDF for their disappearance. Why is the government silent on these claims? Why doesn’t the government maintain a data base of all incidences since the end of war and use them to their advantage?
Our foreign consulates are of no help either. I haven’t seen a single media event/publication or presentation to explain what happened in Sri Lanka. No updates on government plans or facts for countering allegations against Sri Lanka to the Sri Lankan community. None of our representatives in foreign countries are capable of delivering an effective message to the host country media. We need to take a lesson from Israel where American born Israelis who covers the US media. When they speak Americans feel home and tend to believe and trust in what they say. Unfortunately, Arabs with their heavy accents and ways of expression alienate themselves from the American main stream. All this sound ridiculous but it is the reality in the west. SL government should seriously give a thought of using American born Sri Lankans in a similar capacity.

  10. douglas Says:

Very encouraging to note how the people are “awakening” and “realizing” that some thing has to be done to save the country and the Government. This type of exposure was a need of the hour since the war ended. We all noticed how the “war winning jubilation” was carried on regardless of the “need to be cautious” in setting the house in order. All the vultures who hanged over the President started to lead him on the garden path and went to the extent of bringing all the burden on him, even to intervene in the matter of “transporting vegitables” in crates. All the Ministers started publicly declaring all what they did was “as per the directions of the President”. This band of vultures started blowing the trumpets and praised him as none other than a “King Reborn”. You would have noticed that any project undertaken was named as “Mahinda Rajapaksa Vidyalaya, Sports Complex, Theater Hall etc. Don’t be surprised one of these days some of these “Golayas” will build a public lavatory and name it as “Mahinda Rajapaksa Lavatory”. Please listen to SLBC News Bbroadcast. After the news is read out Mahinda Rajpaksa’s “preachings” recoded at various functions are aired out. So in short he is portrayed as a “Preacher” than a good Administrator or CEO of Sri Lanka. This is what they did to late R.Premadasa too.

Look at Mervin Silva. I am toled by a friend who lives abroad that a collection of his “public smashings” have been well documented in vedio form and shown to various important personnel in Governemnt Ministries of foreign countries, and given lectures as to how Cabinet Ministers are behaving in Sri lanka.

Unfortunately we don’t have and will never have a “Democratic Opposition” who can have a “shadow cabinet” like in other countries to guide the Government. In such abscence, it is heartening to note that those of who are really keen on “protecting” this government and forging ahead with the development of the country and the nation have come together to point out the “Pit Falls” and show the way forward.

Thank you Sonali and all those contributed by way of comments.

    – Good point Eusense. At last, another Sri Lankan who realises the truth about the West. LTTE diaspora uses this simple psychological fact to manipulate the levers of power in the west to their advantage. Sometimes, perhaps to ridiculous lengths like name changes of their spokespeople to suit the country they live in eg Sam Pari. A more effective LTTE tactic is their use of Western spokespeople such as Callum McCrae, Bruce Feinn. Gordon Weiss, etc etc. If the average Westerner hears on tv etc, Gordon Weiss speak unsubstantiated lies and an official from Sri Lanka (who looks and speaks differently to them) speak the truth – they will always always believe the former. When it comes to the mass media, Westerners find people more alike to themselves, more credible. Unfortunate though it is, the fact remains. This is well accepted psychological tactics in the West. Sri Lanka must be innovative in the fight back. all options must be considered. Wen cant allow some stubborn traditionalists to hold the country to ransom.

  12. Lorenzo Says:

USA, EU KNOW about Endia, LTTE VERY WELL. That is why they have banned LTTE.

They KNOW collateral damage was VERY LOW in SL.
They KNOW SL has better human rights than MOST developing countries.
They KNOW there are NO WMDs in SL.

The problem is NOT the knowledge of the ground reality. The problem is their STRATEGIC INTERESTS.

What USA is trying to do is TURN this comodor dragon somehow into an edible gator. You tell them this is a comodor dragon repeatedly, they WON’T listen. Because they are FIXED in what they want to do.

Human rights, etc. are ONLY EXCUSES to expel China from SL and restart war.

Tamil tail piece CANNOT wag the US body. Tamil slaves are AGAIN USED AS pawns in the US strategy.

We have to FOIL this plan.

  13. Lorenzo Says:

USA has SUPER MASSIVE interest in Israel.

1 As the biggest Christian country USA wants to protect ancient Biblical places from Arabs. ONLY Israel can do it.
2 Fear of Israel has driven Saudi and other fools to the feet of USA.
3 A never ending problem in “Palestine” has made USA the BOSS.
4 A nuclear powerd Israel can attack ANY middle eastern country (including Iran) into TOTAL submission. Israeli long range nuke missiles can even reach Russia.
5 Suez canal cannot be ILLEGALLY manipulated by Islamic Egypt because Israel will retaliate.
6 A former Israeli defence minister said Israel is USA’s MOST reliable, unsinkable and LARGEST aircraft carrier!!!!

This is why USA HAVE TO protect Israel. It is NOT propaganda but STRATEGIC INTERESTS.

USA KNOWS what bad Israel does. But they DON’T care. Their interests are more important than anything else.
USA KNOWS what good SL does. But they DON’T care. Their interests are more important than anything else.

SRI (SL) has PLENTY to learn from ISR (Israel).

  14. S.Gonsalkorale Says:

Excellent revealtionExcellent by Lorenzo. USA knows everything “smart but act blur”
We cannot have both “Revla and Kenda” ( moustache and porridge), that is Endia and China.
Drastic urgent action should be taken, without delay. DO NOT WAIT 1 MORE YEAR to hear from Tamil Woman PIllay.

    1. Wake up.
    2. Sign a strategic military cooperation plan with China.
    3. Kill 13 A tomorrow.
    4. Get closer to Australia on the basis of boat people. Talk to Tony Abbot NOW.
    5. Get closer to Israel.
    6. Use 3. And 4 to keep USA at bay.

  16. Fran Diaz Says:

As far as we can see, the President’s plan as now is “Peace through Development’ which is absolutely correct for the times. However, we also hope that the 13-A becomes redundant and will be removed, sooner the better.

    * Less to do with Tamil Nadu, the better.
    * Do not be overly dependent on Tamil Labor. Modernise & Mechanise the Labor sector, particularly the tea plantations, so that anyone can work in those jobs.

  17. Fran Diaz Says:

Re the UNHRC: SEVEN countries who voted with Lanka in earlier times which included China & Russia, could not vote at the last 22nd Session. That was the only loss for Sri Lanka. We think we have to just carry on regardless of any UNHRC decisions as we were basically headed in the right direction anyway.

  18. Lorenzo Says:

    Absolutely Fran.

UNHRC passed 6 resolutions against Israel this time. And Israel lost by 46 votes in 5 of them. Lost by 28 votes in the other.

But does Israel give a flying fa*t about it? NO.
Israel carries on settling Jews in “occupied” “militarized” “Palestinian” territories!
    SL must copy Israel.

  19. S.Gonsalkorale Says:

    I agree.
Give free land to all the families of army boys and girls. Help them to build their houses or businesses. Must start settlemet program there. HEck care about stupid resolution and P. Pillai woman.

It’s interesting to compare and contrast this against the humanitarian operation conducted by SL against LTTE. An attempt has been made to do so here.
