LET US UNITE TO ABROAGTE THE 13TH amendment
Posted on May 9th, 2013

Ranjith Soysa (Spokesperson) SPURƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  (Society for Peace, Unity and Human Rights for Sri Lanka Inc)

We wish to record our appreciation of the bold stand adopted by Mr Wimal Weerawansa MP and his party the JNP with regard to the 13th Amendment and the Elections to the Northern Provincial Council.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ In keeping with the hopes and aspirations of the vast majority of Sri Lankans who uphold the territorial integrity and the sovereignty of the country as a sacred principle governing the State of Sri Lanka, the timely action taken by Mr WW has galvanized the national opinion and will no doubt encourage the national minded politicians and other like-minded organizations to join hands together to signal the impending danger.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Mr Weerawansa has articulated the necessity to do away with the 13A and also to complete the resettlement of the forcibly displaced population including the people who decided to leave their places of residence due to the deterioration of the law and order situation when the LTTE was calling the shots in the North of Sri Lanka.

Both aspects are of prime importance to the stability and good governance of the Province and we trust that the Government will consider revisiting the issues and taking meaningful steps to rectify the situation.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ In the meantime we call upon all nationalist forces including those in the UPFA and the UNF and all who solemnly pledged to the constitutional oath to join forces to abolish the 13th Amendment and to cancel the proposed elections of the Northern Province. This will enable the country to stave off the separatist forces which were defeated by our heroic defence force personnel who along with unarmed civilians sacrificed many thousands of lives to uphold the unitary state of Sri Lanka.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ We, at SPUR and our international associate groups firmly believe that the 13th amendment is one of the key impediments to the Nation’s stability and assure our support for the move to abrogate this vile amendment forced on Sri Lanka.

    ABSOLUTELY!

We should all rally around Hon Wimal Weerawansa for this NOBLE work.
JHU, BBS, SR, RB should JOIN IN. Unity is strength.

If we can make a forceful public campaign BEFORE the North PC election, we may be able to STOP this 13 amendment madness.

Groups like WASP, SLUNA, SPUR should TELL the govt. to get rid of 13 amendment for them to EFFECTIVELY defend SL in Canada, USA, Australia, UK, etc. Then the govt. will have to listen because they know they need them. At CHOGM time, Tamil Diaspora terrorists will come out in numbers in these countries to DEFAME SL.

SL govt. needs WASP, SLUNA, SPUR to counter that. Use it as a bargaining chip to force the govt. to SCRAP 13 amendment.

    Wimal
u can save lanka Thank u

  3. Lorenzo Says:

Hon WW is the THIRD MOST POPULAR politician in SL.
SECOND HIGHEST preference votes receiver EVER.
MOST popular politician in Colombo district.

He increased useless JVP’s seats from 1 in 1994 to 39 in 2004 (10 years). Remarkable by ANY standard.

So he is a VERY capable man to get the message across. He can do it. I don’t know what he was doing for 4 years but better late than never.

We have 5 main attackers now.

1 GR (we want him to lead the MBRL barrage)
2 WW (GR is UDA boss. WW is the UDA minister. Very good as he can get high level instructions from GR)
3 BBS (a whole NEW approach)
    4 SLUNA, WASP, SPUR
5 JHU (useless. They should find some use in this campaign)

This will be the GREATEST victory patriots (who were not fortunate enough to slay TEs) can contribute to SL.
    It’s now or never!

  6. Fran Diaz Says:

With you SPUR and all the others who wish to get rid of the useless 13-A.

Flood the Parliament with millions of Petitions that the 13-A is removed. That is the Democratic way to get rid of a useless piece of legislation imposed under Duress.

  7. Ben Silva Says:

People need to express their opinion and be prepared to stand up and be counted. It has not happened son far. Rather than attempting to seek extinction, people need to think of self preservation and dump 13A.

  8. Senevirath Says:
