Response to Dr.Karunyan Arulananthan’s Calls For US Pressure On Sri Lanka in CNN

Dr. Chula NA Rajapakse MNZM FRCP/FRACP Spokesperson,ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  United Sri Lanka Assn.

The anti Sri Lankan tirades ofƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  Dr.Karunyan Arulanathan, a recipient of Ceylon’s free education that saw him graduate as a medical doctor, on whichfoundation he now enjoys the luxuries ofƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  US, to mount this tirade, comes as no surprise. For, he along with others in the Tiger Diaspora, sustained three decades of terror in Sri Lanka, through support with funds and propaganda. The quelling of this terror by the SL forces in may 2009, is a bitter pill for the likes of him to stomach.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ This terror was unleashed in response to the post independence loss of the colonial privileges enjoyed by theƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  minority Tamil community, as the privileged community of the divide and rule British Colonial policy. This, saw Tamils though constituting only 12% of the population dominating the public, technical and financial services at independence in 1948 .The post independenceƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  loss ofƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  these colonial privileges were internationally orchestratedƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  as discrimination, with Goebellian zeal, by the likes of KA..

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ The moment the TigersƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  lost the warƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  in May 2009 the tune was changed to ” human rights violations” during the last stages of Sri Lanka’s liberation from terror”., to wreak their vengeance.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ If 40,000 -140,000 Tamil lives were lost consequent to Sri Lankan forces fire, in the last stages of the war, would 300,000 of these Tamil civilians, hostaged by the tigers as human shields, who are alleged to have been victimsƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  the SL forces fire, stream into the arms of these very Sri Lankan forces, asƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  they did in full view of the international media and their camera’s , the moment the Tiger built embankmentƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  to prevent their escape, was breached ?

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ If the SL forces were so targeting them, upto May 2009,ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  why did these same forces spend the next 2 years risking their lives, demining these civilian’s homes for them to be resettled there, as has happened now.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ The testimonies of tens of Tamil civilians representing these three hundred thousand , six doctors & a Tamil member of Sri Lanka’s parliament ,ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  who lived with these civilians during these last months and weeks, all vouch that the only fire that was directed at them was from the TigersƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  to prevent their escape so depriving the Tigers of their shields. They only had the highest praise for the SL forces. These are easily viewed on UTube in the documentary ” Lies Agreed Upon”

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ All the allegations against the SL forces in these last weeks have come in documentaries like those of Channel 4 UK, where the allegationsƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  came fromunattributable video’s orƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  those with blurred faces and muffled voices.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ UNSG appointed Darusman commission calling for inquiry into allegations against Sri Lanka. TheyƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  do so based on information, the sources of which cannot be released for 30yeara! SoƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  much for their credibility & transparency. FurtherƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  the choice of the commissionersƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  went against the most basicƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  tenetƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  of natural justice as it was done with no consultation with Sri Lanka, and all three of them were known to have made comments adverse to SL in themonths preceding their appointment .

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Many visiting western parliamentarians including MP’s from UK and Australia , who have spent several days visiting the North of Sri Lanka as guests of the TNA, the Tamil parliamentary party representing much of the north, have all to an individual confirmed that the impressive realities of Sri Lanka today, in terms ofƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  ethnic reconciliation and reconstruction of the ravages of war are quite different to what theƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  likes of KA make out.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Julia Bishop the deputy opposition leader of Australia,ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  stated categoricallyƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  that when she asked for specific instances of disappearances from TNA, and torture from the human rights watch, they who have been making these allegations , none were forthcoming.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Two commissions appointed, the Lessons Learnt & Reconciliation Commission and the SL Army Commission who called for specific instances of such breaches and human rights violations during the war,ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  to investigate had no submissions, not one.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  This further highlights that the likes of KA have no substantial evidence butƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  are only bent on undermining Sri LankaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s recovery and reconciliation.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ A careful census carried out by the Tamil teachers of the north in 2010, one year after the end of the war,ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  left only one or two thousand unaccounted for from before the war , in the regions of the last battles.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ All this evidence is overwhelmingly against anyƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  large scale civilian casualties as allegedƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  by the likesƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  KA , during the last stages ofƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  the war, to investigate further . It also supports the view that these allegations are only made to undermine Sri LankaƒÆ’‚¢ƒ¢-¡‚¬ƒ¢-¾‚¢s recovery and reconciliation.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Further the cry for more and more commissions only come from the International tiger diaspora not from the Tamils living in Sri Lanka where more Tamils live among the Sinhalese in the south as most probably did KA in the first three decades of his life, In Colombo thecapital , the population split between the Muslims, Tamils & Sinhalese is equal and has been for decades.ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ Some of the many measures towards ethnic reconciliation in recent months and years for the record, includeƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  reversal ofƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  Sinhalese as the only state language to Sinhalese & Tamil, program to make the public servants competent in both languages, the relocation in their homes of the 300,000ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  Tamil human shields rescued fromƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  the Tamil Tigers, the 22% growth in theƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  Tamil dominated north compared to 8% nationally, Colombo havingƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  at least as many Tamils as Sinhalese, & 7 out of the 20 billionairesƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  in the Colombo stock exchange being Tamil.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ These have seen former tiger leaders and other prominent Tamil leaders, joining the government as cabinet ministers and prominentƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  governing party candidates in the forthcoming northern provincial council elections.

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ The likes of KA should join these ranks and be of service to their Tamil brethren back in Sri Lanka without undermining the best hopes they have had for decades , nay centuriesƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  .

ƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚ The Obama administration & CNNƒÆ’-¡ƒ”š‚  should not fall victim to this Goebellian

Rhetoric.

Jaffna tamils liked to lick white rulers boots to get colonial priviledges but they dont even want to be friendly with sinhalese who own this country . they refused to learn 75% sinhala people”s language but volunteered to learn the language of our enemies to suppress us

all sinhala kalu suddas and tamil slave suddas are in the same boat. put them in nandikadal.

  2. Lorenzo Says:

This is why I always say it is NOT boat people who do MOST anti-SL things but EDUCATED TAMILS.

We should encourage more and more Tamils to LEAVE SL in boats or toilet paper.

Anyway US pressure has made the lives of Afghans, Iraqis WAY BETTER THAN they had before!!! USA should give a similar “good life” to Tamils in SL. :))

    LOL!

  3. Vis8 Says:

Even expatriate Tamils are distancing themselves from this nutcase. No need to worry about this loser.

  4. S de Silva Says:

Thank you Dr Chula R for emphasising the actual loss of Colonial privileges as the real issue pricking the Tamils. So they ‘cunningly Packaged’ the issue, dressing it up as loss of basic Human Rights, to get the sympathy of Amnesty, HRW etc, etc. When challenged to produce the evidence, the Tamils are hopelessly unable to list out what they do not have that others do! – S de Silva – London

  5. A. Sooriarachi Says:

Good on you Dr Chula Rajapakse for exposing the lies being disseminated by Tamil separatists.
Statistics prove that the Tamils were the most over privileged minority within the British commonwealth, both during British rule as well as for several decades after that, because those Tamils already placed in privileged positions continued with these discriminatory practices against all non-Tamils as well as the ‘Eastern Province Tamils’, ‘Indian Tamils’ and “low-caste” Tamils in the North. This is the small group of ungrateful racist minded Tamil separatists who cannot bear to think that today all Sri Lankans have an equal chance to get a proper education and employment, and the extra privileges enjoyed by them are no longer available other than the still current Tesavalami law preventing non-Tamils purchasing Tamil owned land in the North.

Fortunately the vast majority of Tamils living in SriLanka, and also probably overseas, are no longer fooled by this racist bunch, though foreigners are still hoodwinked with their fabricated stories. There are also a few Western Regimes and Tamilnadu with their own agenda against SriLanka, using these racist Tamils to destabilise the country.

We now know that the Darusman panel was a Kangaroo Court appointed by the UNSG mainly to satisfy the strong Tamil separatists lobby overseas. Their report mostly repeats what was in the Tamilnet and other anti-Sri Lankan reports. For instance the figure of 40,000 killed still bandy about by these frustrated individuals was first invented by Gordon Weiss when he had to leave the Colombo UN Office job. This figure is not even accepted by the UN, as they believe the figure is around 7000 inclusive of combatants.

Therefore, the main question is, are people like Dr Arulanandan suffering from guilt for supporting Tiger terrorists to commit crimes against humanity, like the targeted killing of Sinhalese and Muslims and also using Norwaigian assistance to illegally displace Sinhalese and Muslims and colonise especially the Vanni region with Indian Tamils from central hills, in keeping with their program to Tamilise the Northern Province?

  6. S de Silva Says:

A.S. thank you for your comment – You are absolutely right that the casualty numbers arbitrarily thrown at Sri Lanka invariably refers to the bogus figures invented by Gordon Weiss. But we do really must take some responsibility for all this as well. GoSL should sue GW for libel and at the last UNHRC session we should have defined all casualties as collateral damage just like the US does every time ! Finally, at the same session, we should not have ever ‘accepted’ unilateral responsibility and should have insisted that India, LTTE and the governments in the West should have also been included as responsible. Despite the ‘Big Talk’ by our politicians there is a lot that we need to learn from these lapses on how to do battle in the media – S de silva – London

Nationalist organizations in Sri Lanka protest Northern PC election without amending land and police powers

    ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Jun 06, Colombo: Sinhala Buddhist organizations in Sri Lanka today protested against the government for planning to hold election for Northern Provincial Council without removing the land and police powers from the 13th Amendment to the Constitution.

At a press conference held today in Colombo, the secretary of the National Sangha Conference warned to mobilize the Buddhist monks of the entire country against the government and prevent holding the election for the Northern Provincial Council.

Meanwhile, the Patriotic National Movement that held a press conference separately protested the amendments proposed by the government. The Convener of the Patriotic National Movement Gunadasa Amarasekera said the amendments without the removal of police and land powers may have been proposed by the RAW agents in the cabinet.

The National Freedom Front led by Minister Wimal Weerawansa is meanwhile collecting signatures to a petition against holding the Northern Provincial Council election without amending the land and police powers.

  9. Ananda-USA Says:

The 13th AMENDMENT contains Many POISON PILLS that THREATEN the INTEGRITY of Sri Lanka and the SAFETY of its PEOPLE.

    Among them:

    1. Devolution of Land and Police Powers that will enable SEPARATIST Tamils to EXCLUDE other communities from the North and East, to BUILD UP their SEPARATIST forces ONCE AGAIN beyond the view and control of the National Government, and to import an unending STREAM OF ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS from Tamil Nadu.

    2. The de-facto VETO power of Provincial Councils over NATIONAL BILLS which requires UNANIMOUS CONSENT of ALL PCs for passage of National Bills. Under this law, the GOSL would be UNABLE to act against SEPARATIST Provincial Councils in any way.

    3. The Provision for the MERGER of the Northern and Eastern Provincial Councils, that would resurrect the long held dream of Eelamists to impose their majority in the Northern Province on the Eastern Province, and capture it as well. What the SunGod sought to Win by MURDEROUS WAR would be gifted to the TNA in ABJECT PEACE!

It would be an ABSOLUTE FOLLY to hand over the North and East to UNREPENTANT SEPARATISTS ENABLING them to SECEDE and join Tamil Nadu!

The LIVES of UNTOLD GENERATIONS OF Sri Lankan Citizens would be placed at RISK by opening this DOOR TO HELL!

Ask Not For Whom the Bell Tolls; it Tolls for Thee!

Rise Up! …. O Patriots of Mother Lanka …. REPEAL the 13th Amendment, DEMOLISH the Provincial Council System, and HALT the upcoming Provincial Council Elections, DEMAND a NATIONWIDE REFERENDUM to END the 13th Amendment!

Sri Lanka cabinet approval sought for amendments on power devolution

    ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Jun 06, Colombo: The Sri Lankan government will submit a proposal to the cabinet of ministers today seeking approval to re-amend the 13th Amendment to the Constitution , government sources said.

The proposed amendment reportedly aims to remove the provisions provided for a merger of the adjoining provincial councils which allows bills and acts to get passed by all provincial councils before they are passed in parliament.

The draft bill in this regard has been approved by the party leaders of the ruling United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) that met on June 04 evening under the patronage of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Sri Lanka government sources say that more amendments to the Provincial Council system are to come in the future.

Meanwhile Minister Wimal Weerawansa said that the President promised to seek a definition from the Supreme Court regarding the police and land powers of the provincial councils.

Minister’s party, National Freedom Front is campaigning against giving police and land powers of the Provincial Councils.

  10. Ananda-USA Says:

Sri Lanka Tamil party opposes amending the 13th Amendment to the Constitution

    ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Jun 06, Colombo: Sri Lanka’s major Tamil political party, Tamil National Alliance (TNA) has opposed the government’s move to amend the 13th Amendment to the Constitution.

The government’s move is seen as a measure to limit the powers accorded to provinces under the 13th Amendment before the government holds elections to the Northern Province Council planned for September.

TNA parliamentarian Suresh Premachandran said the 13th Amendment which was aimed at solving the national issue and the government must consult the TNA as a representative of the Tamil people prior to any move to amend the 13th Amendment since it would affect the people of the North and East.

However, Premachandran noted that the government has not yet made any official comment on its stance on the 13th Amendment.

According to Premachandran, the TNA would have to decide whether to contest the Northern Provincial Council polls in the event the government decides to dilute or amend the 13th Amendment as it stands.

The 13th Amendment introduced under influence from India in 1987 paved way for power devolution to the Provinces despite displeasure of the majority Sinhala community.

There is a growing momentum within the ruling party and the country to abolish the 13th Amendment. The opponents of the 13th Amendment believe holding the elections in the Northern Province without amending it will be a serious threat to the national security and territorial integrity.

Members of the ruling party have met on Tuesday to discuss the changes to the 13th Amendment and the party leaders have agreed to amend it, a senior party leader has told the AFP.

The government has proposed removing the provisions provided for a merger of the adjoining provincial councils which allows bills and acts to get passed by all provincial councils before they are passed in parliament.

Further, the attention is focused on the provision of granting land and police powers to the provinces under the 13th amendment.

Sri Lanka’s Defense Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa recently said that he would never agree to granting police powers to provincial councils as it would be a serious challenge and a danger to the security services.

He said if the provincial councils were vested with police powers, a serious situation would arise with regard to the maintenance of law and order, and the security services would become ineffective.

However, some coalition partners of the government are not in favor of the move to revise the 13th Amendment and curtailing police and land powers.

Ally of the governing party, the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) said the party would not support the changes to the 13th Amendment to the Constitution.

The party said 13th Amendment should not be revised in any way and there should not be any change in the land and police powers vested with the provinces under the 13th Amendment.

The government is however, to submit a proposal to the cabinet of ministers today seeking approval to re-amend the 13th Amendment to the Constitution.

“JVP insists on scrapping Provincial Councils
    June 6, 2013, 12:00 pm – Island

    By Dasun Edirisinghe

The JVP yesterday urged the government to scrap the 13th Amendment to the Constitution and do away with provincial councils without wasting time in making amendments to the existing Provincial Council Act.

JVP Propaganda Secretary Vijitha Herath told The Island that the government’s draft amendment to the Provincial Council Act had been postponed for two weeks, when it was presented to the Cabinet yesterday.

He said that the proposed amendment would only pave the way for passing something at the provincial council level even though it could not be passed by a council.

Herath said that, for example, when the impeached Chief Justice Dr. Shirani Bandaranayake ordered that the approval of Provincial Councils had to be sought before taking up the Divi Neguma bill in Parliament, it was asked how the approval of the Northern Provincial Council could be obtained as there was no sitting council.

According to the new amendment, it was not necessary to obtain the approval of all provincial councils, but the approval of a majority out of the nine provincial councils was enough to present it in parliament, MP Herath said.

The Gampaha District MP said that the Provincial Council system set up on the Indian model had failed to be a solution to the national issue.

“We have been against the PC system since the inception and our stand on that remains the same,” Herath said, adding that first of all the government had to abolish the provincial council system and thereafter it should look after the needs of Tamil people in the Northern and Eastern Provinces without further delay as four years had already passed since the defeat of terrorism”.

President’s right to merge provinces to be repealed
Stripping of provinical land, police powers not discussed – Keheliya

    by Zacki Jabbar
    June 6, 2013

The Cabinet of Ministers has approved a proposal to repeal the President’s right to merge Provinces, which has been provided for under the 13th Amendment to the Constitution.

Media Minister Keheliya Rambukwella addressing a news conference in Colombo yesterday, said that constituent members of the ruling UPFA had been given time to study the Bill to amend the Provincial Councils Act.

The proposed two amendments pertained to the President’s right to merge provinces and the requirement that the approval of all provincial councils were required to amend the Constitution, he noted.

Asked if the government was also trying to strip the provinces of land and police powers, the Minister said that it had not been discussed.

Rambukwella said that the UPFA had only taken up the proposals to repeal the President’s right to merge Provinces and the consent of all provincial councils to enact legislation.

At yesterday’s Cabinet meeting the SLMC leader and Justice Minister Rauff Hakeem had asked for more time to study the proposed amendments and it had been granted.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa has proposed that the Parliamentary Select Committee (PSSC) on the National Question be reconvened with or without the participation of the Tamil National Alliance.

Informed sources said that the President was of the view that if the TNA refused to attend the PSC process, the PSC should continue with the participation of Tamils in the government and Opposition.

I can’t believe what I’m hearing …. are the BJP Politicians FINALLY getting it … that they can’t get Sri Lankan Tamils an Eelam without ALIENATING and making an ENEMY of Sri Lanka, that would rather BEFRIEND India, if they BUTT OUT of our Internal Politics?

And here I was PROPOSING that Sri Lanka undertake a FACT FINDING MISSION to India to INVESTIGATE why the “legitimate aspirations” of the multivarious SEPARATIST and TERRORIST groups in India are being suppressed and denied their FUNDAMENTAL HUMAN RIGHTS to inflict MURDER & MAYHEM upon other law-abiding citizens of India.

If this degree of RATIONAL COMPREHENSION of India’s CULPABILITY for Sri Lanka’s PAIN & WOUNDS persists, I may have to SHELVE my PROPOSALS.

Well, let us wait and see … after all Indian Politicians suffer from Advanced Alzheimer’s Disease, and do tend to forget what they said yesterday, especially after the Indian elections are over.

India can’t solve Lanka’s political issues: BJP team

    ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

June 07 (NIE) A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led team, which is currently on a tour in Sri Lanka, has told the war-ravaged Lankan Tamils that India is ready to provide the healing touch but it cannot be expected to solve their political problems.

Interacting with a wide cross section of political parties and civil society in Jaffna on Wednesday, the leader of the six member team, Rajya Sabha member Ravi Shankar Prasad, said that India was aware that the Tamils of the Northern provinces needed a healing touch and assured them that India was with them.

However, he made it clear that Lankan Tamils should not expect India to solve their political problems. These would have to be solved by the people themselves through participation in the domestic political processes, he said.

India did not have a magic wand to solve their problems, he said.

Prasad also made it clear that India saw Sri Lanka as a friendly country and would never de-stabilize it.

The six member Indian team, which has a representative of the Shiv Sena (Suresh Prabhu), an RSS official (Ram Madhav), a political commentator (Swapan Dasgupta) and a human rights activist cum advocate (Monika Arora), was presented a kaleidoscopic view of opinions in Lanka’s Tamil-speaking Northern Province. The team met pro-government and anti-government groups separately, besides top civil and military officials.

Members of the team showed keen interest in the issues the Tamils were facing and asked probing questions. On Thursday, the team met MPs from the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) at Hilton Hotel in Colombo.
