UN High Commissioner Pillai’s Visit A Worthless One Which Has Merely Exposed Her Transparencies And Bias.

Whileƒ”š‚ the direction,ƒ”š‚ objectives and end result of UN Human Rights Ambassador Naveen Pillaiƒ”š‚ ( herself a Tamil) was almost predictable towards bias, sympathy and posturingƒ”š‚ towards theƒ”š‚ defunct Tamil Tiger terrorists and their supportives for very apparent reasons from the very outset, she has played out her role accordingly and not surprisingly although there has been a touch of Machiavellian subterfuge enacted by herƒ”š‚  in so doing.

ƒ”š‚ What has revealed this almost precisely is the statement she made that the LTTE were murderous criminals while condemning them heinously yet seeking to pay respects to Velupillai Prabhakaran their slain terrorist leader which was somewhat naive on her part as it has revealed her tainted mindset and duplicity whichƒ”š‚  has been slated by many Government sources including the President where realistically she should have been very politely asked to leave the country immediately.
Talk about burning the candle at both ends with the veiled sympathies for the terrorist leader shortly after condemning them as murderers and heinous villains!
ƒ”š‚
It also seemed somewhat superfluous andƒ”š‚ bordering on theƒ”š‚ ludicrous that she was sent to Sri Lanka by the UN when her main mission in all probabilities should have been toƒ”š‚ Syria and other parts of the world where rights violations take place almost on a 24 hours basis and areƒ”š‚ horrendous as well as in total disrespect for humanity particularly in Syria where a greater part of the world observes almost on a daily basis the brutalities involved.
She did not have a smidgen of any of theseƒ”š‚ in the accusations she has pointed towards the Government where theƒ”š‚ cries of the oppressed should have realistically incorporated those from both sides of the conflict in Sri Lanka where the Sinhalese and other etnicities suffered tremendously at the hands of the terrorists and it was the Armed Forces that saved the day which of course was not part of her observations as it would have then pre- empted the true objectives of her visit.
ƒ”š‚
In many respects it has therefore been a failure, a wasted effort and a worthless pitch into the Sri Lankan coffers as such a visit entails heavy finances which could have been better spent inƒ”š‚ providing for the poor and needy as a 7 day visit by a dignitary of her status certainly runs up humungous bills and it is not as though the UN despite its responsibilities carried the entire tab which of course is secondary!
ƒ”š‚
However, she has truly left behind a trail of doubt and circumspect pondering about her visit in the minds of many in a capacity to adjudicateƒ”š‚ although the reason for it was fairly obvious.
ƒ”š‚
The Sri Lankan Government which under tremendous pressure over the issue of human rights acccusations, granted the UN an opportunity to see for itself first hand through Madam Pillaiƒ”š‚ the state of Sri Lanka today in the aftermath of the terrorist campaign probably did not realise what her true agenda was nor did it pay attention to possible ramifications which in retrospect need to be deemed null an void if they crop up as Ambassador Pillai went to town literallyƒ”š‚ enjoying her tropical paradise getaway while making hay( or so she thought!)ƒ”š‚ for the LTTE supportives and wreaking havoc in the minds ofƒ”š‚  some of the international community where she has certainly overstepped her metes and bounds and the real objective of her visitƒ”š‚ clinically revealed.
ƒ”š‚
Understandably The Government of Sri Lanka has said thatƒ”š‚ U.N. human rights chief Navi Pillay had acted beyond her mandate in saying “the country was heading in an authoritarian direction.” as the officialƒ”š‚ objective of her visit was far removed from adjudicating the direction the country was headed where if it was ever needed would have been simply to observe its beneficial and progresssive nature through the policies of the present regime.ƒ”š‚ ƒ”š‚
ƒ”š‚
As her seven-day mission to assess Sri Lanka’s progress after the 26-year war between the government and separatist Tamils concluded she hasƒ”š‚ said that ” the country was showing signs of heading in an increasingly authoritarian direction” where the authoritarian nature of her statement with little beyond conjecture, created artifacts and the lobbying of ƒ”š‚ disenfrachised Tamils through their own creationƒ”š‚ someƒ”š‚ ofƒ”š‚ which were partisan albeit organizedƒ”š‚ by the adversaries of the nationƒ”š‚ to support it, by far exceeded what she has termed authoritarian on the part of the Government without a single reference to the incredibleƒ”š‚ progress the country has shown and the mood of the people in the aftermath of the mendacities of the Tamil tigers which includes many contented Tamils with a very positive and grateful outlook to be liberated from their ravages..
ƒ”š‚
The evaluation of her visit in a nutshell was perfectly done by the Government response that ƒ”š‚ “The High Commissioner’s observation is a political statement on her part, which clearly transgresses her mandate and the basic norms which should be observed by a discerning international civil servant.
The judgment on the leadership of the country is better left for the people of Sri Lanka to decide than being caricatured by external entities influenced by vested interests.”ƒ”š‚ This was posted by the Information Department and carried on the internetƒ”š‚ website www.news.lanka.

Perhaps what she should have done realistically in order to maintain her credibility and not demean a Sovereign Nation thatƒ”š‚ conducted a precedent settingƒ”š‚  succesful anti-terrorist campaign, as she has chosen to do, would have been to highlight the attrocities of the Tamil Tigers and the devastations their internal armed insurrection resulted inƒ”š‚ entailing murder, mayhem and inconceivable horrors amongstƒ”š‚ many Sri Lankansƒ”š‚ for which regardless of whatever is done towardsƒ”š‚ recussitation can never be sufficiently compensated.

While failing almost in a pre-meditated manner to point out the progress and development the country has been subjected to by the policies of the Governmentƒ”š‚ The UN Ambassador Pillai hasƒ”š‚ played her hand in a manner that has revealedƒ”š‚ the transparencies towards her true intent.

I strongly suggest that the SL Govt. appoint a Good Team of people headed by a person with a brain to handle Pillai’s accusations when her report is released.

Well said Gota. I AGREE word to word.

    From adaderana.lk

“Voicing concern over the possible attempts to promote Muslim extremism in Sri Lanka, Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa stated that the emergence of hard line groups within the majority community is a consequence of the increasing insularity amongst minority ethnic groups.

Delivering the keynote address at the ‘Defence Seminar – 2013’ in Colombo today, he stated that the indications of increasing communalism amongst ethnic groups in the country is a cause for concern.

“The increased insularity of ethnic groups was visible during the three decades of conflict in Sri Lanka, and it is a matter of some concern that this separation still persists under conditions of peace and stability,” he said.

Rajapaksa stated that the fragmentation of the Sri Lankan identity into ethno-religious identification is not only unfortunate in itself, but it can also lead to other problems in the long term.

For example, it is clear that there are some in the Tamil community who identify more with the Tamil community of Tamil Nadu than with their fellow Sri Lankans, he said, adding “similarly, it has been observed that there are some foreign groups that wish to encourage Sri Lankan Muslims to identify themselves more with the global Muslim community, thereby reducing their integration with the rest of the population.”

He stated that the country’s police and security forces are concerned regarding instances where “extremist elements” have been in transit in Sri Lanka prior to their arrest.

“It is a known fact that Muslim Fundamentalism is spreading all over the world and in this region. This is a situation that our Law Enforcement agencies and Security Forces are concerned about, particularly as there have been instances where extremist elements have been in transit in Sri Lanka prior to arrest and handing over to appropriate authorities,” he said.

“The possibility that such extremist elements may try to promote Muslim extremism in Sri Lanka is a cause for concern,” he added.

He pointed out that one of the “consequences” of the increasing insularity amongst minority ethnic groups is the emergence of hard line groups within the majority community and that this in turn causes further tensions amongst other communities, which leads to a vicious cycle of greater fragmentation of the Sri Lankan identity.”

What’s mind boggling is that after her boss Ban Ki Moon backed off on the same issue mumbling to himself about accountability as he could not come up with anything tangible towards UN accusations, someone with links to the LTTE as well as a Tamil regardless of whether she’s from Tamil Nadu,S Africa or Timbuctoo~ definitely not of Sri Lankan origin is sent to stir up more international dissent and rabble rouse. Sri Lanka should have been the last place for someone with her credentials to visit as her disentitlements by way of huge conflicts of interest stick out like a sore thumb.
The world knows how humanity suffered during the conflict but what it does not seem to know is that the basis for their suffering was instigated by the Tamil Tigers and legitimately alleviated through the actions of the SL Government being accused of war crimes. Damn it UN and the rest of the international bandwagon piling on these accusations ! isn’t it time you gave up as you have had zilch towards proof and find better areas to focus your concerns which glare at the world on a daily basis?! There is a genocidal tragedy unravelling in Syria at this very moment! Why was not Pillai part of the investigative team that recently went there who may have better served the objectives of human rights violations?

Sunil Kumar says “Navi Pillai’s visit was a worthless one …” Absolutely correct. Even Tamils will not benefit from her visit.

  5. Sunil Mahattaya Says:

It seems to have benefited the TNA, Wigneshwaran, SLMC and the rest of the deadbeats who are still tolerated in Sri Lanka all of whom should be rounded up and taken to task for continuing to foster and foment pro LTTE sympathies, particularly the obstreperous Wigneswaran who has the nerve to adulate the monster Prabhakaran and make open speeches about his merits and objectives.~ surprisingly the SLMC in their latest rhetoric has also spoken out of turn recently if one reads between the lines.
Naveen Pillai is simply a bucket carrying sycophant of the Tamil diaspora who should be billed for all the expenses incurred during her visit ands posted to Iraq, Syria, Pakistan and Afghanistan in sequence and given a first hand taste of Real Human Rights violations where she would be at risk of being violated herself

I just got some news from a friend in the island nation. He tried to put a paid advertisement in the Daily News and the Island news papers. The DN Advertising manager refused to publish it even it was a paid advertisement. The Island took it and the money but later refused to publish it and offered to refund the money.

The ad was a 2 columns by 5 cm:

” Navi Pillai; Hon UNHRC You are an Indian colonial parasite from Africa Hence you should keep out of the affairs of the subjects of the Indian Empire”

The DN is a government run news paper and the Island’s owner Upali Wijeyawardana was blown off by the Indian colonial parasites of Malaysia, agents of the Indian Empire.
