Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa yesterday alleged that the US Embassy in Colombo was pursuing a political agenda extremely detrimental to Sri Lanka-â„¢s interests.

Although the government was doing everything in its power to restore democracy following three decades of war, the US embassy was all out ot undermine it, Defence Secretary Rajapaksa said. He was responding to a US statment issued in the immediate aftermath of Provincial Council elections in the Central, North Western and Northern regions.

The US Embassy said: “A process free of violence and intimidation in the Northern Province is required for greater civilian administration and to help further the reconciliation process four years after the war.‚ These elections provided a starting point for that process. Democracy is not simply about elections, however, and more must be done to ensure that Sri Lankans of all communities can live with peace and dignity that they deserve.”

The Defence Secretary said he hadn-â„¢t ever come across an assertion which was as unfair as the one that democracy was not simply about elections. “We are a multi-party country. As all know, even at the height of the war, Sri Lanka conducted elections. It is nothing but unfair to blame the UPFA merely because those in the South backed by the US Embassy here cannot win elections at any level.”

The Defence Secretary said that some bankrupt political parties, too, had echoed the US Embassy.

Recalling America-â„¢s and some European countries-â„¢ criticism of the 18th Amendment to the Constitution which did away with the presidential term limit, the Defence Secretary pointed out the recent overwhelming victory achieved by German Chancellor Angela Merkel to secure an unprecedented third term. Would anyone dare challenge the German Chancellor-â„¢s right to lead the country for a third term having won the people-â„¢s mandate, the Defence Secretary asked.

The Defence Secretary said Sri Lanka had lost over 6,000 officers and men fighting the LTTE during eelam war IV. Of them, over 3,000had sacrificed their lives on the northern and Vanni fronts from March 2007-May 2009.

The Defence Secretary said that Western powers had kept mum when the LTTE and its proxies ordered Tamil speaking people to boycott the presidential election on Nov. 17, 2005.”The TNA would still have been a prisoner and a TNA-run NPC would never have become a reality if Prabhakaran had survived the war.”

The first ever Northern Provincial Council polls were meant to facilitate the post-war national reconciliation process, the Defence Secretary said, stressing that it would be a serious mistake to misinterpret the TNA-â„¢s overwhelming victory at last Saturday polls to promote separatist sentiments.

“it would be a serious mistake to misinterpret the TNA’s overwhelming victory at last Saturday polls to promote separatist sentiments”

    Wrong, GR.

TNA win IS about promoting separatist sentiments. That’s all they promised!!

We have to accept this reality and do something about it without denying it. TNA = LTTE.

  2. Sarath W Says:

Well, the crooked Americans are at it again.Remember how they prevented the African Americans voting against George Bush? These gun trotting thugs have created such a mess and suffering in Iraq, Egypt, Libya and now in Syriya and have been at it in Sri Lanka for a while. This is why the Americans have lost the respect of every other nation except their partner in crime, the British pirates.

  3. ranjit Says:

Bravo Gota our great worrior. He is the only guy who has backbone to stand up for the Americans in Sri Lanka. No #1 Terrorists in the world is America. See now their citizens joins all the world terrorists and killing innocent civillians and no one talks about it. They give arms to terrorists,They give sanctuary to terrorists,They advise terrorists etc.
The nature punish them with floods, twisters, fires, hurricanes etc for their crimes against humanity. They destroyed beautiful historic countries like Iraq,Libiya,Afgansitan etc and their turn will come sooner or later. Those who are eyeing to destroy our country will perish and destroyed by nature or terrorism that’s for sure.

We have to be strong as a nation. Those defeated politicians must stop talking lies and joining our enemies to tarnish the image of our country instead they must join with the Government and help to build it. We need leaders like Gota our great Sinhalaya to answer to those Para Suddas. We will overcome all the difficulties and triumph over the evil very soon. May God bless Sri Lanka.

  4. S de Silva Says:

Yes Lorenzo – “We have to accept this reality and do something about it without denying it. TNA = LTTE” I would add to that by saying that we created this very opportunity for the TNA by not doing the things we should have done to block the progress of the TNA, and to my mind the only slim hope that remains is the pending Supreme Court decision on the constitutionality of the TNA manifesto – S de Silva – London

  5. aloy Says:

Patriot or not can someone explain the rationale of giving big contracts to Channai businessmen when our monks were being bashed at that very place?. This happened under Gota’s ministry. What benefit we get other than more Kallathonis flooding into Colombo?.

  6. douglas Says:

Thanks GR. At least you have cared to give this “Lady” Michele Sison what she deserves. Hope you know well the “Profile” of this US Representative and what her “Mission” in Sri Lanka is. Not a single person had the courage to speak on her visit to Naga Vihara in Kotte to discuss the “Proposed Constitution” with Rev. Sobith. What were her intentions of that meeting? Isn’t that purely a political interference in the country’s affairs. Also please note how she moves around the country with various community development projects. She even went to Mulathive to open a market. We don’t mind getting involved in such community development projects. But knowing the “background” and “capacity” she has displayed elsewhere, before coming to Sri Lanka, we had better be “vigilant”. This is more a “threat” and a “impending danger” than the TNA.

  7. Fran Diaz Says:

Unfortunately, it may suit Tamil leaders (TNA) of Sri Lanka and Tamil Nadu to have our politicos protesting against the west, while they sit cosily in their homes and get the Sinhala leaders to fall into another trap like the Riots of 1983 (Cold War times). The 1983 riots were a set up to get the Tamils to the west and it was followed through with further bullying by India, forcing the 13-A (1987) on Lanka.

The Tamil Problem is as follows :

    (a) CASTE SYSTEM

    (b) SEPARATISM (from India & Sri Lanka)

Both items are nurtured by Tamil LEADERS of Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka Tamil Leaders (TNA).

In Tamil Nadu, why have this so called Scheduled Castes (11 Million Tamils) ? They can do away with such titles that immediately, at birth itself, makes their own citizens Outcasts, can’t they ? Why can’t they have Tamil people just classified according to NEEDS, as done in Sri Lanka other countries and help them according to their NEEDS ? For example, fair quality food, clothing & shelter for ALL, and not based on Caste structures.

Frankly, I think all this is a ‘Grab Sri Lanka’ for a TN expansion program and de-stabilise India too, aided of course, by vested interests.

Dear Peace loving People of Lanka, just make sure Sri Lanka does NOT fall into another Riot Trap like in 1983. Weliweriya was a try … so be careful – NO VIOLENCE. Use Peaceful methods to stop Separatism. Right now Tamil Leaders are attempting to get the Sinhala hot heads to do their dirty work as in Riots of 1983 ! See how quiet the TN leaders are (Meeyo waggey hemming innawa ! – quiet as mice).
Smart. But we can see through it all now.

If the 13-A is kept on in place, the TNA has to go along with the Development of the North. Basil Rajapakse said that GoSL had given money earlier to renovate the Vavunia fish market, but to date nothing has been done. GoSL has to give updates to the Public of Lanka on how the NPC performs. Our Eyes are on you, NPC – so watch it ! Perform well or depart. The onus now is with the NPC to perform well and deliver to the North.

If the NPC does not comply, Lanka has to have a Referendum and remove the 13-A. I thought earlier that we could use the 13-A in some constructive way to suit all. If the TNa continues on the Separatist path, there is no alternative but to remove the 13-A and treat all citizens of Lanka according to HUMAN NEEDS. That is the Buddhist way, or for that matter the Christian or Muslim way too.

  8. Lorenzo Says:

    S de Silva,

Talking of supreme court, the court has decided provincial councils have NO land powers.

    – adaderana.lk

A fantastic decision. That doesn’t resolve the BIG problems we created for ourselves but it puts brakes on separation.

  9. Sunil Mahattaya Says:

Is the TNA direction towards secession firstly through administrative and policing control something that comes as a surprise? Not at all as it was there on the cards all along. GR’s interpretation of the US embassy statement is spot on as the US has hinted at the TNA acquiring greater powers and autonomy which indeed are detrimental to the country and a threat to national security. If the GOSL decides to tighten the screws on the TNA based on their provable aspirations towards a continuation of the LTTE objectives regardless of the agendas of the US or any other source, (probably forthcoming) it would be a clear message that SL can handle her own affairs without outside interference. Anyone who thinks that the TNA aren’t bucket carrying sycophants of the LTTE and Tamil Nadu must surely be deluded.Time to gather the freedom loving pro Government Tamils and get their backing towards denouncing the TNA and believe me such an entity exists contrary to popular belief that there aren’t! The TNA today poses the greatest threat to national unity which the US even if they huff and puff till they’re blue could never contradict!

  10. NAK Says:

This may be-not may be but -must be a blessing in disguise.
Now, if the TNA try to assert more powers than delegated to the PC’s,the government must act to annul the 13A in toto as a precaution in safegaurding the the national sovereignity or go for a nationwide referandum to asses the suitability of the PC in this country.

But before doing so there must be better system of governance prepared to be put in place instead of the present distorted electoral system, fanciful cabinets and dispropotionate and wasteful government expenditure.

  11. jay-ran Says:

Yes Sir GR! You are very correct to say:
“The Defence Secretary said that Western powers had kept mum when the LTTE and its proxies ordered Tamil speaking people to boycott the presidential election on Nov. 17, 2005.”The TNA would still have been a prisoner and a TNA-run NPC would never have become a reality if Prabhakaran had survived the war.”

When one or two Western Army personnel are being killed by Terrorists or any,THEY MAKE A HUGE NOISE!!!
But, when the LTTE was killing thousands and thousands of innocent Sinhalese,Muslims & Tamils ALL THESE PUNDITS WERE DEAF,BLIND & DUMB!!! Now they speak of Nothern Polls,Notherners rights etc etc-ALL BULLSHIT!!!

  12. Ananda-USA Says:

    Bravo … Gotabhaya!

“It is nothing but unfair to blame the UPFA merely because those in the South backed by the US Embassy here cannot win elections at any level”

However, this is like closing the barn door after the horse has been stolen! We have allowed the Tiger Nominated Agents of the TNA to drive a dagger deep into the heart of Motherlanka. We CONTINUE to let TRAITORS get away with TREASON, ENCOURAGING their belief they are IMMUNE to RETRIBUTION under SRi Lanka’s laws.

Dear Defence Secretary, how about LAUNCHING an Investigation into ALL TREASONOUS ACTIVITIES of the TNA during the last 30 years, including the SEPARATIST Proclamations and Manifestos during the PC Election, to ENSURE that those 6,000 sons and daughters of Sri Lanka DID NOT DIE IN VAIN?

INVESTIGATE, ARREST, PROSECUTE, CONVICT and severely PUNISH all overt and covert TRAITORS now posing as LEGITIMATE politicians clamoring to get in PEACE through foreign blackmail, what they failed to win through murderous terrorism. How about it, Dear Gothabhya?

  13. Ananda-USA Says:

NAK must have read my mind, and shared my hopes, when he wrote:

“Now, if the TNA try to assert more powers than delegated to the PC’s,the government must act to annul the 13A in toto as a precaution in safegaurding the the national sovereignity or go for a nationwide referandum to asses the suitability of the PC in this country.”

However, it is is precisely this that the TNA, the Tamil Diaspora Eelamists, India, Tamil Nadu, UN’s Navi Pillay and the Western nations weilding “Human Rights” and “Democracy” pretexts to undermine and destroy Developing nations, are anticipating and rushing to forestall ALREADY.

The statements already made by the UN, the US, the UK, Germany, and India after the PC election must be interpreted in this context.

  14. Lorenzo Says:

Supreme Court battle was between GOMIN DAYASIRI (WON) and Sumanthiran kallathoni (LOST).

    That has GREAT symbolic value.

It is a direct DEFEAT of Tamilian aspirations.

We also thank the MINISTRY OF PLANTATIONS for creating the case.

GOVT ORGANISATIONS should create many more similar cases.

  15. aloy Says:

    Yes, Bravo
My question above still begs for an answer. Under whose control Colombo became a non Sinhala speaking city?. Why soldiers cleaning streets and beautifying the place for Kallathoniies live in while army commanders have been reduced to scarecrows?.
Very soon Sinhalas will have to retreat to deep south.

  16. Lorenzo Says:

    Aloy,

    Yes you are right.

It happened since 1981 but now its worse.

GR is the UDA boss so he must take MOST responsibility.

To make it worse, GR is building 10,000 housing units MOSTLY for kallathonis and Jihadists. I hope he matches his big statements with ACTION.

  17. aloy Says:

If they shoot down some more Sinhalas the IC will be very pleased. Already the likes of Stephen Sakur of BBC has stared to portray a big image. Perhaps he will make a portrait and hang it permanently in his studio if more Sinhalas are killed.

  18. Piyadigama Says:

We appreciate the efforts and concerns of Aloy and Ananda-USA throughout.

We also thank Gomin Dayasri, Palitha Gamage, Manori Jinadasa, Anura Jayasinghe and Rakitha Abeygunawardena for their effort to save the country. It is the second time Gomin Dayasri has saved the country from separatists. We wish the other state officials paid by taxpayers do their duty for the Motherland.

    Thunuruwan Saranai.
