Dear Editor:

In your Opinion Diplomacy column Member of Parliament Paul Dewar says, -Time for real Canadian action on Sri Lanka-.‚  Wrong!‚ ‚  Hold your horses Paul Dewar, it is –Time for real Sri Lankan action on Canada.-

No right minded Canadian can ignore the fact that there were countries that aided and abetted the Tamil Tiger terrorists to fight their separatist war in Sri Lanka , and Canada happened to be one of them and we were front and center on this misguided adventure. Canada prolonged that war and let the Tamil Tiger terrorists become serial killers and suicide bombers.

Canada during the Liberal Prime Ministers Jean Chretien and Paul Martin let the Tamil Diaspora collect two million dollars a month for 13 long years to stuff the Tamil Tiger war chest to buy sophisticated weapons to fight that war and along the way killed innocent unarmed civilians in the thousands.‚  And it was in 1994 that they cut a cheque for 7.5 million dollars from a bank account of a Tamil from a Bank in Vancouver ‚ to purchase 10 tons of RDX and 50 tons of TNT from the Rubezone Ukraine Chemical Factory. It were these explosives that were used in the truck bomb to bring down the Central Bank Building in Colombo on 31 January 1996, killing 114 innocent people and maimed for life another 1,338.‚ ‚  It was the same explosives that were used in a truck bomb on 15 October 1997, to attack the World Trade Centre in Colombo killing 12 and injuring 113 others. And these explosives were used in another truck bomb to attack the sacred Temple of the Buddha-â„¢s Tooth in Kandy in the hill country on 25 January 1998, killing 12 and injuring 13 others and destroying its ancient historic faƒ§ade.

Paul Dewar may recall the two Liberal cabinet ministers Paul Martin and Maria Minna together with several back benchers attended a $60-a-plate fund raising dinner on 6 May, 2000, for the Tamil Tigers organized by‚ the Federation of Associations of Canadian Tamils (FACT).‚  The money was used to purchase more sophisticated arms to continue the Tamil Tiger Human Rights violations by hijacking the right-to-life of 22 million Sri Lankans for decades.

Perhaps, Paul Dewar ‚ may want to revisit Efficacy of Diplomacy 101 which might help‚ him to retool his thoughts on ‚ Sri Lanka hosting the Commonwealth Summit.‚ ‚  Paul Dewar cannot live in a glass house and throw stones at Sri Lanka.‚  It-â„¢s time for real Sri Lankan action on Canada and not the other way around.

Asoka Weerasinghe‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚ ‚
