The UPFA acquired one million more votes than the UNP. It is a runaway landslide. The UPFA has also obtained 525,000 more votes than the combined opposition, SLFP Treasurer and Youth Affairs and Skills Development Minister Dullas Alahapperuma said.

Looking at the outcome of the WPC and SPC elections what is important is to compare votes of the UPFA with those obtained by the opposition. By adopting this criteria it is very clear that the UPFA stands leagues ahead of the others, he said.

“It is very plain that the people have emphatically reiterated their faith in the government,” Alahapperuma told the media at the SLFP headquarters yesterday. Minister Alahapperuma said it is unfair to compare the UPFA’s Western and Eastern Provincial Council election results with the 2009 election outcome as these two elections were held under completely different political circumstances.

The minister also emphasised that there is no decline in the vote base of the UPFA. “We are happy as we were able to hold a free, fair and a democratic election under the leadership of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

When comparing elections held under the present government and the UNP regime, it is clear that there is a significant decline in post election violence under the present government,” SLFP General Secretary and Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena said.

Minister Sirisena said all elections held under the leadership of the President during the past decade were held in a peaceful environment.

“We extend our gratitude to the President, Elections Commissioner and his staff, Inspector General of Police and all police officers and all other officials for the assistance and cooperation to hold free and fair election,” Minister Alahapperuma said.

Meanwhile, UPFA General Secretary Minister Susil Premajayantha said the 2010 Parliamentary Election vote base of the UPFA is still intact. The UNP vote base has further eroded during the election that just concluded, he said.

Premajayantha said the UPFA vote base will further increase in the national elections.

    Please keep Run-NIL.

Gonzeka is doing VERY WELL. I’m NO FAN of Gonzeka but I see a FUTURE for his party.

IF Gonzeka can WHIP UP PATRIOTISM against MR (ridiculing MR’s anti-SL moves, call him a COWARD for NOT resettling Sinhalas in Jaffna, for keeping Osama Bin Ladin as NPC CM, not punishing Kasippu Joseph Goebbels for treason), then UPFA will be HISTORY.

NO ONE has guts to challenge MR on the PATRIOTISM camp. One who dares wins.
