The Bodu Bala Sena (BBS) charged that some members of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) were being manipulated by anti-Buddhist elements.
Responding to allegations leveled by the BASL that the BBS was engaged in acts that were in violation of the law, the organization’s Secretary, Ven. Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thera questioned why the BASL was silent in the face of Christian fundamentalism and Muslim extremism.
There have been repeated warnings, both here and abroad, regarding the rise of Christian fundamentalism and Muslim extremism, even by some leaders among these faiths. How is it that the BASL cannot see any of that and point fingers at the BBS?” he questioned. The Thera further said the BBS knew who was funding the elements of the BASL who were behind the anti-BBS campaign.
We know that it is only some members who are engaged in this campaign. They have made the rest of the BASL level accusations against us without taking all the facts into account,” he claimed. The Executive Committee of the BASL, issuing a statement, noted with ‘grave concern’ certain recent acts alleged to have been committed by the BBS. These include the forcible disruption of the press conference held by Ven. Warateka Vijitha Thera at the Nippon Hotel in Colombo, alleged derogatory remarks made by Ven. Gnanasara Thera regarding the Quran and the Muslim community, and the organization’s members forcibly entering a government ministry building, causing disruption.
The BASL statement notes with regret, that the investigations into these incidents do not appear to have been satisfactorily conducted so far.
However, Gnanasara Thera said the amount of cases filed against the BBS in court showed that the law was being implemented, but pointed out that no member of the organization has ever been found guilty of any criminal offense by courts.
As such, he challenged the BASL to provide proof of any instance where the BBS has ever engaged in criminal offenses.

Though I am concerned about the high handed manner the BBS is adopting to solve issues identified by them, I think the BBS is spot on in their assessment of the BASL leadership, which only sees ‘faults’ of the Government and Sinhala Buddhist groups, when in fact the major problem is the unethical conduct of the Evangelists and Jihadists.

Following cowardly behaviour of the government BBS is standing up to the Extremist Islamists. They are taking on a world power without weapons and bombs.
Lankapage, a traitor media getting paid by USA and UNP is spinning around calling BBS extremist.
They say BBS is responsible for the violence whilst the Islamic Extremist employed by Saudi Arabia going on rampage attacking monks and temples.
Unless MR wakes up and control these terrorist , it Sri Lanka will be a target of USA’s invasions.

Whatever the BBS can see, whatever the people can see so can the Bar Association of Sri Lanka can see. Having them admit it is a completely different point.
In Asia Times there is an article I read yesterday (6/15/14) titled “The Axis of Buddhist Extremism”. Written by Tom Farrell it is a superficial article that singles out Buddhism for standing up to Islamic extremism (that could as well be applied to Christian fundamentalism). The article falls apart as this dolt tries to “illuminate” the reader of the history of Buddhism. He goes on to mention Hinayana and Mahayana Buddhism as the only expressions of world Buddhism. By that his entire article is a flop. He failed to mention Vajrayana Buddhism as practiced by Tibet and now is a world wide phenomena. He also failed to mention Zen Buddhism brought to Japan by Bodhidharma an Indian Buddhist monk that ended up shaping the culture of the Western world.
then this man goes about condemning Sri Lanka and Myanmar for not living up to the principles of Buddhism and practicing what he terms as “Buddhist Extremism”. Never mind that Buddhist Imperial Japan almost conquered Asia during world war two and would have neutered the US had they carried out their plan to the fullest in their attack o Pearl Harbor.
Never mind that “Hindu India” is a nuclear armed nation building a military that has the capacity to obliterate another nation. Never mind the “Christian nations” of the west including the US that has used the atom bomb and has been instrumental in overthrowing dozens of governments, causing wars etc. while not following the lessons taught by Jesus Christ.
Never mind that Muslim nations using the Sharia law have effectively erased any trace of any other religion in close to 50 odd Muslim nations and their sheer unadulterated intolerance towards anything non Muslim to the level that Shia and Sunni are at each other throat right now due to some historical differences.
Never mind that NO religion is allowed to build their holy houses in Mecca, Medina or Jedda let alone dozens upon dozens of Muslim cities in Muslim nations, including their quest to make Europe an “Islamic continent” . All of that is simply brushed under the proverbial rug. If Sri Lankans or Myanmanese or Thai even DARE stand up to Islam then lets label them “Buddhist Extremists” but save the sermons of condemnations against the blatant intolerance that is a daily aspect of the Islamic and to a greater extent the Christian world.

June 16 (ITV) There are fears that the murder trial of a Rochdale aid worker killed while on holiday in Sri Lanka could collapse and start from scratch due to interference from the country’s President.
The trial has been underway in Colombo for several weeks, but reports in the local press in Sri Lanka say the presiding High Court judge, Rohini Walgama, has been put forward for a promotion to the Appeal Courts.
If her promotion is accepted by President Mahinda Rajapaksa, a new judge will be appointed to the trial and the defence will have the option of asking all the evidence to be heard again from the beginning.
Six men are accused of murdering Khuram Shaikh, including Sampath Vidanapathirana, a town council leader and close associate of President Rajapaksa.
Mr Shaikh was killed while on holiday in the resort of Tangelle on Christmas Day 2011.
Rochdale MP Simon Danczuk, who has long suspected a political cover-up in the case, told Granada Reports he fears political intervention could once again deny the Shaikh family justice.

The communal violence erupted in Muslim dominated Dharga Town Sunday following the BBS rally has claimed the lives of three people and injured scores, among both Sinhalese and Muslims
Addressing the cheering crowd in the tension-stricken town, the monk has threatened that if any “Marakkala” (Muslim) set hand on any Sinhalese, let alone Buddhist monks, it would be the end of all the Marakkalas.
The monk has publicly claimed that he was a racist and a religious extremist.
He questioned why the police was providing so much security to the Muslims in Dharga Town. He said the Sri Lanka police and Army are still Sinhala and pointing the guns to them was wrong.
The monk also blamed some Ministers who criticized the BBS as racists and called them “toilet washers.”
He pointed out he had made even the President aware of the problems the Sinhalese were facing but for no avail. ”
Actually what happened was BBS was attacked by Muslims. Is this Ganasara Thero’s fault ?
