MOU: THE BIGGEST HOAX IN ELECTORAL POLITICS
Posted on December 2nd, 2014

H.L.D. Mahindapala

In the history of coalitions formed in the post-independent era the latest one signed at Vihara Maha Devi Park on Monday is unique not for any distinguishing characteristics that give promise of better things to come but for the heap of bland platitudes that have been recycled time and time again at all previous elections without delivering the promises. As for the launch, the whole scene lacked the aura that was supposed to radiate from a reformist movement that was going to be beacon to the nation.

Besides, the generalities promised in the MOU may sound glorious in the ears of those who have come together to grab power. But how relevant are they to the 11 million voters who have seen the same old tired faces repeating their same old promises which they can’t deliver with the best will in the world.

Ranil Wickremesinghe with Chandrika Kumaratunga

Take, for instance, promise No. 4: The oppressive burden of the cost of living of the people will be reduced…..” Which politician has not promised this when he/she was in the opposition and which politician has fulfilled it when he/she moved over to the government benches? The cost of living is like the poor. Neither of them will ever go away. So if Sirisena-CBK-Wickremesinghe trio can bring down the cost of living it would be possible to treat them with some respect, discarding their current image as incurable con artists.

Launch of the MOU

That apart, the lackluster launch of the MOU, which every leader” – so many — hailed as a historic event”, was a damp squib. It failed to take off to make any sort of lasting impression. Everyone was trying to show off that he/she is the leader who can make and break governments. The gloss that would have been there for a new candidate from the opposition too was erased by the presence of the two ghouls from the graveyards of the past — Ranil Wickremesinghe and Chandrika Bandaranaike – who flanked Maithripala Sirisena on either side. Both positioned themselves next to Sirisena to make it clear to the public that they are the king-pins behind the throne. Sirisena, sitting in the middle, looked more like a prisoner of these manipulators who are fretting impatiently to get their hands on the levers of power.

At the end of the day it was very clear that they had nothing substantial to offer the people. The whole scene was a pathetic drama enacted by the inmates of Angoda who had come to believe that they are Napoleon Boru-parts plotting to take on the whole world. All in all, the launch lacked the aura that was supposed to radiate from a reformist movement that was going to throw a bright light across the new path to the future.

The hands of every leader were flailing somewhat like windmills gone haywire, each trying to make an impression on the crowd that he/she is more important than the other. From time to time Wickremesinghe and CBK, from either side, were trying to grab the attention of Sirisena. Both looked like two dwarfs whispering obscenities into the emperor’s ears” (Churchill).

Both were vying with each other to be centre of attraction. Their underplayed rivalry foreshadowed the shape of things to come. For instance, JVP, bent on eliminating CBK from the centre stage, has indicated that they have no objections to Wickremesinghe becoming the Prime Minister as long as he is elected by the popular will of the people. But Sirisena wants to appoint him on his arbitrary preference, and not on the popular will of the people. So how would the public rate the political morality and the judgment of the JVP when Sirisena appoints a prime minister who has lost 29 elections in a row? On what grounds can the JVP endorse a prime minster handpicked by Sirisena and not by the popular will of the people?

In the un/written codes of parliamentary democracy, it is the people who elect a prime minister by voting for the largest number of candidates who will invariably form the government. Parliamentary precedents and traditions endorse the leader who commands a majority in parliament as the prime minister. The head of state merely endorses the will of the people and the parliamentarians. Contrary to established tradition, Sirisena has decided to appoint Wickremesinghe who has yet to win a majority in parliament. Sirisena will then have to face a parliament that may not back Wickremesinghe as the prime minister.

Unless there is a mass exodus from the SLFP after January 8, 2015 Wickremesinghe may not have a majority to get his appointment confirmed by parliament in the proposed interim parliament of 100 days. What is more, there is no guarantee that he can win a majority even in the proposed next general election. Like most other promises in the MOU the possibility of Wickremesinghe becoming a prime minister could be another pipe dream.

The list of promises in the MOU was no better. It did not come anywhere near the expectations/aspirations of the people. What the signatories to the MOU failed to understand was that their political agenda to grab power is not the priority of the voters. To them changing regimes is like changing pillows for a headache. They have lived through so many false promises that only the naïve greenhorns would believe that Monday’s MOU has the capacity to deliver their promises. In fact, in all probability the My-three-pala-naya” of CBK, Ranil and Sirisena, can come apart sooner or later – perhaps more sooner than later — and pave the way for chaos and instability. Neither Sirisena as President nor Wickremesinghe as Prime Minister will be able to hold together incompatible partners like the JHU on one hand and the TNA on the other.

Before dealing with some of the other issues it is necessary to focus on the central theme that has brought the cows, the goats, the sheep and the pigs together. All the rhetoric and the promises of the joint opposition boils down to a single theme: change the presidential system into the parliamentary system and hand over executive power” of the president to Ranil Wickremesinghe, handpicked by the common candidate Maithripala Sirisena, then all the problems of the nation – Hey presto! Abracadabra! –will be solved within 100 days.

Executive power

First, this is a slick formula easily said than done. Whoever dreamed up this formula must get his/her head examined. Only a military coup backed by the Security Forces can ram this insane formula down the throats of the people within 100 days. It is fraught with such complex legal, political and administrative snags that it might, in the end, prove to be unworkable, leaving the status quo untouched. The unpredictable consequences that will ensue in trying to rush an unprecedented constitutional change within 100 can only result in unmanageable chaos, particularly in an environment where political passions would be at intense and dangerous levels. It will be worse than the promises that preceded the Arab Spring”: seemed rosy and promising at the beginning but unravelled in unforeseen brutality and unmanageable political consequences.

Right now Chandrika Bandaranaike, Ranil Wickremesinghe and Maithripala Sirisena (in that order of importance) are acting in an indecent hurry to get their hands on the levers of power, claiming that power in their hands will be better than power in the hands of the Rajapaksas. But what is the known record of achievement when they had power?

Before we consider the records of CBK and Wickremesinghe – the evil twins who sold the nation to Prabhakaran – let’s consider the achievements of Sirisena who is marketing himself as an al-lay (channel), wel-lay (paddy field), pal-lay (hut)” man of the soil. But the story told by his brother to the media is different. On the admission of his brother, Dudley, he has accumulated a fortune of three billion rupees mainly by selling, as the middle man, the paddy grown and harvested by the Polonnaruwa farmers. Sirisena in his media interview was shedding tears for the poor workers and farmers. That sounds good for marketing his image as a poor man’s poor man. But what is the quantum of benefits that the poor farmers derive from the billions amassed by Sirisena’s brother? Shouldn’t charity begin at Sirisena’s home?

Particularly as a man who had studied his Marxism in the Peking-wing Sirisena should know that his brother could accumulate multi-billions only by exploiting the poor farmers. Sirisena, if he has read his Marx correctly, would know that all property is legalized robbery. And according to Proudhon and Marx his brother, Dudley, could amass billions only by stealing” from the poor farmers of Polonnaruwa. So how can he condone/explain his brother Dudley sitting on a Himalayan pile of billions while the poor peasants of Polonnaruwa are still scraping the dry earth to collect a grain a rice for a one-meal-a-day existence?

A poor paddy farmer in Polonnaruwa

Besides, Sirisena, like the JVP, has carved out a career by blaming the iniquities in the capitalist system. He has blamed the capitalist policies of the UNP throughout his political career (37 years) until he went on the UNP platform the other day. More than to the Sirisena, the tacit approval of capitalist Wickremesinghe questions the moral principles of Comrade Dissanayake. He is happy to go to bed with billionaires while excoriating the social injustices of evil capitalism. How can he ensure social justice for the poor farmers when he is happy to give a nudge-and-a-wink for Sirisena to carry on with capitalist UNPers and SLFP billionaires? Is this the kind of social revolution that the JVP plans to promote for the welfare of the farmers?

How does Comrade Dissanayake propose to bring equity to the poor farmers when he turns a blind eye to their exploiters? Will he raise his voice in the name of social justice, or continue to spin yarns about his political goal of creating a just society where there is equity and justice? Sharing the same TV panel with Sirisena the JVP guru, Anura Kumara Dissanayake, waxed eloquent about the social changes and economic reforms that he would introduce to lift the people into JVP’s paradise. But he did not mention one word about how he would reform the system that, according to his guru Marx, makes billionaire’s out of robber barons” exploiting the poor farmers of Polonnaruwa. Why?

Also if with the assistance of JVP, Sirisena’s brother accumulates some more billions whom will the JVP blame for the suffering of the farmers and workers? Will he continue to blame the Rajapaksas or will he go along with Sirisena shedding crocodile tears for the poor farmers? With his tongue-twisting verbal gymnastics Comrade Dissanayake has convinced himself to believe in his own propaganda of creating a society of distributive justice where everyone will live happily ever afterwards. He has yet to learn that his utopian fantasies collapsed many decades ago with the Berlin Wall. So reluctantly, slyly, without facing the socio-political realities, he settles down to accept CBK-Ranil-Sirisena combination where billionaires thrive with the blessings of Marxists like him.

One TV interviewer told him quite bluntly that the coalitions that the JVP signed in the past had not brought the promised social changes nor served the interests of the poor as promised by the JVP. Dissanayake was asked how he would make their support to Sirisena work for the poor. There was no reply. Fortunately, for him the anchorman took it in another direction just at that time.

It should also be noted, since it comes from the admission of Sirisena, that he had benefited from the deals he put through – part of which would have been for his billionaire brother Dudley — with the backing of Gamini Dissanayake and also through Gamini Atukorale. So the image he tries to portray of being a poor humble man who came through al-lay, pal-lay and well-lay” established by D. S. Senanayake does not sit well with billions stacked up his brother’s bank account.

The main silver lining seen so far in his political career of 37 years is his discovery of the greatness of pioneers like D. S. Senanayake who opened up paths for the rise of billionaires like his brother, Dudley. For all practical purposes Sirisena has finally ended up in the bosom of the right-wing UNP. He has followed in the footsteps of the founding fathers of Marxism – from Phillip Gunawardena to Dr. Tissa Vitharana – and gone home to spend their last days either in the bosom of capitalists in the UNP or the billionaires in the SLFP, which Dr. Colvin R. de Silva once categorized as the last remnants of feudalism”. Sirisens, however, has placed himself in the comfortable zone of petty capitalists and multi-billionaires.

So when Sirisena moves upwards from al-lay, wel-lay and pal-lay” into the affluent zones of billionaires in his own backyard should we be surprised that he has followed his natural acquisitive instincts and moved incrementally from (1) Shanmugathasan’s Peking-wing to (2) SLFP and (3) finally to the UNP? After all, Sirisena seems to have discovered his natural habitat. Sirisena has at last found his final resting place. No wonder Wickremesinghe leaps from his seat, each time Sirisena appears on the stage.

The way both acted on the Vihara Maha Devi stage it was quite apparent that the jadiya has, at last, found its moodiya.

It is reorted that the expected crowd had not come for the inaugural meeting of the common candidate Maithripala Sirisena in his home town in Polonnaruwa .

Out of one lakh expected only 15000 had participated and hence 85000 packets of rice were in excess and they had been stacked in various places of the town and they had got stale and rotten and a bad smell had emanated at various parts of the polonnaruwa town.

Apprise PM Modi on mood against Rajapakse, DMK tells BJP

    ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Dec 02 (PTI) Condemning the reported threats to MDMK leader Vaiko over his criticism of Narendra Modi, DMK today said BJP leaders from Tamil Nadu should apprise the Prime Minister about the mood against Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapakse in the state.

“Rather than hitting out at those who criticise the Prime Minister for cosying up to Rajapakse, it would be good if Tamil Nadu BJP leaders apprised Modi about the sentiments against the Lankan President and take steps to ensure that such things do not recur,” DMK President M Karunanidhi said in a statement.

Referring to Modi wishing Rajapakse another term in the coming polls in Sri Lanka, he said it was condemned by all the parties in Tamil Nadu as the head of the island nation was “responsible” for the alleged killings of Tamils.

The 91-year-old leader condemned BJP National Secretary H Raja for allegedly threatening NDA ally Vaiko by saying that “Vaiko will not be able to safely return (home) if he did not measure his words (against Modi).”

Vaiko had condemned Modi for wishing Rajapakse another term.

PMK, another NDA partner in the state, had yesterday taken offencive to BJP state unit President Tamilisai Soundararajan counselling caution by alliance partners in criticising the Prime Minister, saying he (Modi) was not above criticism.

If true, this is very bad. Bad start for My3. So many packets could have been distributed to the poor, if not in Sri Lanka, in other countries. In Bangladesh, most people eat what they call “2nd hand” fried rice.

As I had PREDICTED, HERE COMES the TNA bearing aloft its SEPARATIST DEMAND FOR FEDERALISM to the Common Opposition!

Thinking that the SINHALA Vote will be SPLIT 50-50 as in the BAD OLD DAYS, when the Federal Party was KINGMAKER deciding which major party will rule the Nation, the TNA is ALREADY exploiting its electoral leverage to BLACKMAIL the Common Opposition into granting its SEPARATIST demands!

We OWN Colombo and the Northern Province, they say, GIVE US FEDERALISM and we will MAKE YOU KING!

Hapless Maithripala Sirisena may say “No Deal” to the “FEDERAL MODEL” but he is NOT the one calling the shots; the UNPEE and the Tiger Nominated Agents of the TNA, commanding their VOTER base do.

Sri Lankan opposition candidate rejects Tamil federalism plan

    ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Dec 02 (AP) In an agreement with a major Buddhist political party, an opposition presidential candidate in Sri Lanka said on Tuesday that he opposes a proposal from Tamil leaders for a federal model granting greater autonomy to Provinces to solve the country’s decades-long ethnic conflict.

Maithripala Sirisena also agreed with the National Heritage Party, led by a Buddhist monk, to preserve the constitutional prominence given to Buddhism.

The two parties made the pact as opposition parties try to unseat President Mahinda Rajapaksa in the January 8 elections. Mr. Rajapaksa has ruled for 10 years, and is going for his third term in office.

Leaders from the ethnic Tamil minority have proposed making Sri Lanka into a federal state that would grant significant power to Provinces.

Mr. Sirisena also promised to resist attempts to prosecute Mr. Rajapaksa for war crimes allegedly committed in the final months of the civil war.

The United Nations Human Rights Council is investigating the Sri Lankan government and the defeated Tamil Tiger rebels for possible war crimes but Mr. Rajapaksa’s government has refused to cooperate.

European Union Council appeals the judgment of the General Court to annul sanctions on LTTE

    ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Dec 02, Colombo: The Council of the European Union (EU) has decided to appeal the Judgment of the General Court to annul the EU regulations proscribing the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), the defunct Tamil Tiger terrorist group of Sri Lanka, the European Union said in a statement today.

The Judgment of the General Court of the European Union on October 16 annulled measures taken by the Council of the European Union against the LTTE, namely the designation of the LTTE as a terrorist organization and the freezing of LTTE funds.

“It is important to remember that this legal ruling was clearly based on procedural grounds and it did not imply any assessment by the Court of the substantive issues of designating the LTTE or of freezing LTTE funds,” the statement said.

The European Court on procedural grounds annulled the European Council measures maintaining LTTE, on the European list of terrorist organizations but allowed measures to keep their assets frozen.

The Council said it has now decided to challenge some of the findings of the Court regarding the procedural grounds to list terrorist organizations under EU autonomous measures to combat terrorism, as set out in Common Position 2001/931.

The effects of the Judgment are suspended until a final judgment is rendered by the Court of Justice.

The EU institutions are also studying carefully other appropriate remedial actions that may be taken to avoid possible annulments in the future, the statement said.

These MUD campaigns reflect very badly on the president. This MUD game is NOT going to end well for Wimal. As Namal correctly said, MUD should not be the way to run an election campaign. Leash WW, Namal or he will acuse great damage to MR.

  16. Independent Says:

    Oh ! No. No.
It should be “mada sodagath goviya ..” not so vulgar in Sinhala. It means “washed away the mud , because he works in the paddy field his body if full of mud.
Yes may be true. So much “mud” is thrown at him by organised president’s supporters. He will have to use his” mythree balaya”, power of loving kindness to wash away this mud.

Being a Tamil, it is obvious that your knowledge of Sinhala is limited.

Now I wonder how far you understood the content of the MOU which is only published in Sinhala. ( That is why TNA was not there)

As Mahindapala said in one of his e-mails, “The Vihara Maha Devi concoction is more like “Piss-si-gay pala-mal-la” – depending on whom you nominate as “Pissi”.

Some of the Sinhala words they used in the MOU are very tricky and opened to interpretations and has double meanings.

By the way, all your comments are now becoming something like party political slogans. You should give more factual comments with some content in it before moderator notice it and cut you off.

Regarding “Out of one lakh expected only 15000 had participated and hence 85000 packets of rice were in excess.”This is a BIG LIE spread by Wimal Weerawansa’s lankacnews.
I still believe it because it is highly likely that Srisena’s brother who is the biggest rice trader and hoarder in the region could easily do that with minimum cost.

The story of the pigeon is another lie spread by Wimal Weerawansa’s lankacnews.
Video clip was also given in the news showing first pigeon released by Sirisena diving straight down on to the flow , pigeon was not dead, but landed on the platform where Sirisena was standing. Very Bad omen for Sirisena.

Gamaralala is a word originating from combination of two words Gama and Rala.
    Gama = Village
Rala = dweller. inhabitant or more like wala in hindi
So Gamarala is a village dweller, not necessary be a farmer (govirala)

    Lorenzo
“puka sodakath koviya rajakamata sudusuya” (a hygenic farmer is equal to a king).
This may be applicable to Ranil and Mangal only

TNA was initially invited to the MOU and then told not to come out of fear of turning off Buddhist voters….this is the only clue we really need to know that RW/MS plans to push the TNA separatist agenda and is just saying in public what he thinks he has to say to get elected.

Lorenzo, there’s no documentary evidence to show the throwing away of so many lunch packets; only the people in Polonnaruwa know the story. However, there’s video evidence to show the first pigeon released by My3 is going down and landing on the stage. So, you can’t say all what WW’s website saying is wrong.

On the other hand, wasting of so many lunch packet is only a crime in the minds of poor people in that area. But it is not a significant lost to the supplier of those items. Most probably it may have been supplied by My3’s billionnaire elder brother Dudley Sirisena who owns the largest rice milling plants and rice stocks in the island (Araliya Rice). He is also called Haal Mafia (Rice Mafia).

Only my worry is if MR go than GR/BR will use his green card to go back to USA.

Dec 03, Colombo: Two people have been beaten by Sri Lanka’s ruling party supporters today since they protested erecting a hoarding of President Mahinda Rajapaksa in front of their house, local media reported.
The owners of a house in Divulapitiya in Gampaha district has protested erecting hoardings on the light post in front of their house by a group came in a truck.
A resident of the house as videoed the attempt and the video has been posted in the social media sites.
Following the incident, the Chairman of the Pradeshiya Sabha of Divulapitiya had come to the house with few of his supporters in two vehicles and had demanded to see the owner of the house who protested the installing of the hoarding.

The owner said he did not respond to the politician’s demand in fear and two of his brothers who went outside the residence were beaten up by the Chairman’s supporters saying that they don’t need permission to put out President’s posters since this is their government.
The two young men have been admitted to Divulapitiya Hospital and following threats to their lives later admitted to Damabadeniya Hospital.

A good one ! your last two lines ! Perfect. Lorenzo is in usual mood to appreciate jokes nowadays.

  28. Lorenzo Says:

Thanks NMY for the early warning.

I will include sources. But something tells me my days at LW are numbered which is sad.

Let me do a MADDUMA BANDARA who is considered a HERO despite his clan’s treason!

On lunch packets, there is NO evidence but on the bursury by UGC, there is evidence. 3 months bursury at increased rate of 4,000 paid in one go at a special meeting.

IF assuming true and costing one packed at 100 rupees (can’t be that good), that is 8.5 million rupees PRIVATE funds.
15K uni students, 4,000 rupees times 3 is 180 million rupees STATE funds. Normal would be 22.5 million rupees. ADDITIONAL is 157.5 million rupees.

  29. Lorenzo Says:

    Samanthi and NMY,

“Video clip was also given in the news showing first pigeon released by Sirisena diving straight down on to the flow , pigeon was not dead, but landed on the platform where Sirisena was standing. Very Bad omen for Sirisena.”

How come it is a BAD OMEN for MS?

Can the symbol of peace take a flight over SL under current conditions? The pigeon thought otherwise! So it is a very bad omen for someone else.

  30. Lorenzo Says:

    Independent,

Yes. A good one. There is another joke.

WW: “Toyyas can’t win. Only we the bayyas can win.”
Man: “Eka inda api bayyata goyyek damma.”

If Gamaralas RECLAIM national leadership, I’m happy. VERY happy. Lets not be jealous about their riches but appreciative.

The REAL RICE MAFIA is the Tamil dominated rice import (from Tamil Madu of course) mafia of Colombo who are determined to destroy the industry in the country.

  31. Independent Says:

Goyya is honourable. As you said When mud has been washed he is suitable for the crown.

Bayya is implies generally “those who come from village to city and cannot fit in” which is not a very good term for one to call himself to be proud of.

  32. Cerberus Says:

As a concerned bystander, what I see is spitefulness and some money and power grabbing by the Common Opposition. It appears that CBK who is now a British Citizen has come back to mess the country up some more. She, her uncle Ratwatte, her nephew Rohan Daluwatte along with Ranil W caused immeasurable damage to our armed forces with their ineptitude and stupidity. Thousands of our brave soldiers died since they were not properly armed, trained and informed. CBK blamed the poor soldiers for not winning against LTTE and not her inexperienced Uncle and Nephew. Gota took the same soldiers, trained and armed them and conducted the war on the LTTE in the most disciplined and humane manner possible under extreme conditions since LTTE was fighting a guerrilla war.

There was an inquiry, I think, to look in to commissions taken by Mr Ratwatte who was the Minister for Defense at that time. However, he suddenly died so it was shelved. During their tenure in offie, over 1000 soldiers perished at Elephant Pass due to dehydration when LTTE cut off water to the garrison. The commander had left the garrison with no leadership. Another 1100 died due to being overrun by LTTE since they were poorly equipped. President Premadasa unarmed some 700 STF Police Personnel and the LTTE broke with their promise and lined them up and shot them in cold blood. Anton Balasingham who engineered it fled the country to the U.K.

When the LTTE had nearly cut off Jaffna trapping our troops, all CBK could do was to ask for help from India to save them. General Janaka Perera turned the situation around and had the LTTE cornered. CBK inexplicably took him out and sent him to Australia as an ambassador when her Tamil friends appealed to her to stop Janaka.

Janaka was later betrayed by the UNP who invited him to a meeting in Anuradhapura to which no one else went and the LTTE got him with a bomb. General Kobbekaduwa’s travel route got known to the LTTE and they bombed him too. These are only a few of the things I remember from way back.

They nearly handed over part of the country to LTTE when CBK invited Prabhakan to rule the North and East for a period of 10 yrs ! If our people have forgotten all that happened then they deserve fools like CBK and Ranil W to be in power. When I think of the past events I weep for our Sinhala Buddhist peasants who gave their lives to save the country.

CBK apologized to the Tamils twice. To date she has not apologized for the thousands of JVP Sinhala youth who were killed by her mother, Mrs. SWRD Bandaranaike. Her father created a huge problem for the country by making Tamil a National language. No other state surrounding Tamil Nadu in India has allowed Tamil language to be used in their states.
Also, Tamil leaders have never apologized to the Nation for the damage done for decades.

My memory may not be that good so apologies if I am inaccurate in some incidents mentioned.

  33. Lorenzo Says:

    Cerberus,

I think you are CORRECT about history.

But it didn’t end there, did it?

    1. Elephant Pass army camp – we had a MASSIVE army camp in EP during peacetime and war time. But what has happened to it TODAY? A very small army presence at this SRATEGIC location! It was NOT LTTE Balaraj who busted it this time, it was someone else.

    2. Janaka was killed by the LTTE in 2008. Had he the protection he DESERVED, this could not have happened. Not even a helicopter was there to bring his dead body! I know he was MISLED by UNP and did many STUPID things but he achieved much more for the country.

    3. Tamil was made an official language by 13 amendment. Even RW and CBK refused to use it. Guess who used Tamil for the FIRST TIME in history at the UN and in election campaigns after Premathasa.

    4. Today there is an LTTE controlled provincial council. There was nothing like that before 2008. In 2008 LTTE Pillayan became CM.

I have NO respect whatsoever for CBK and RW but MS will be the president if he wins, not CBK or RW.

In 2005 people said the same thing. They said WIMAL W, Ven Medhananda and MANGALA will be the BOSSES of MR if he became president. It never happened. So don’t worry about CBK and RW too much. They are NOBODYS.

  34. Ananda-USA Says:

    Cerberus,

“If our people have forgotten all that happened then they deserve fools like CBK and Ranil W to be in power. When I think of the past events I weep for our Sinhala Buddhist peasants who gave their lives to save the country. ”

I will join you brother, and shed tears for our heroic sons and daughters who gave up their lives as their full measure of their devotion to our Motherland.

I also weep rivers of tears in anger and frustration at the RANK INGRATITUDE of our educated ELITE who have completely forgotten who fought those battles, who led the heroes, who incurred the risks, and who put their necks in the Foreign Noose to save worthless ELITIST hides!

Given this is how we ABANDON our heroes in their time of need of our support, WHO WILL RISE AGAIN to Protect and Defend Mother Lanka in dark hours that the future may inevitably hold? Who?

  35. Ananda-USA Says:

    Lorenzo,

You said “I have NO respect whatsoever for CBK and RW but MS will be the president if he wins, not CBK or RW.”

    REALLY?

I REALLY thought you understood MS’s OWN WORDS that he will be “Executive President for 100 days” only, and will appoint Ranil W Executive Prime Minister before he leaves office!

We must then CONCLUDE that you don’t believe MS’s own declaration of his policy!

Therefore, you are SUPPORTING Palwatte Gamaralage Maithripala Yapa Sirisena, a man whose policies you don’t BELIEVE, for the Executive Presidency of the Nation!

Now, that puts you in the rather peculiar position of CONTRADICTING your own principles, does it not?

What a PICKLE you have gotten into Lorenzo; NEITHER you NOR your bungling candidate for the Executive Presidency, make ANY SENSE WHATSOEVER!

  36. Lorenzo Says:

    Ananda,

The VICTORY of soldiers has been REVERSED.

    1. Do you know there is a TNA controlled provincial council in the north (the entire area LTTE controlled PLUS Jaffna peninsular)?

    2. Do you know TNA=LTTE?

    That’s it.

These things that happened during LTTE time still happens under TNA (without violence).

    1. NO Sinhalese or Muslim is allowed to be resettled in their original homes.

    2. Army camps are removed (LTTE removed them by war but TNA removes them peacefully). At the end of the day, SAME outcome.

    3. TAMIL ONLY administrative functions. At least LTTE printed the travel form in Sinhala too.

    4. LTTE leaders used to meet foreign dignitaroies and bashed SL. TNA does same!

    5. LTTE demanded political solutions and govt.s worked for it. Today PSC doing the same thing.

    6. KP was a VVIP. Still is. While our army commander was in jail and now without his rank even after winning the war. Karuna is a national list MP but SF’s hard won MP post was taken away.

Tell me Ananda, have these things not happened or you call them INSIGNIFICANT?

Please respond to the 8 points.

  37. Lorenzo Says:

““Executive President for 100 days” only, and will appoint Ranil W Executive Prime Minister before he leaves office!”

The parliament was elected in April 2010. It will end BEFORE April 2016. IF MS becomes president, he will appoint RW by early May 2015 if the current parliament stays.

But RW and MS don’thave majority in parliament. So RW will be IMPEACHED or changed by the parliamentarians. With NO EP, no one can save RW.

When the parliament is dissolved, the PM will be refilled by whoever WINS MOST people’s votes.

  38. Independent Says:

As a concerned independent observer, what I see is spitefulness and some money and power grabbing by the rulers.

I can clearly see that suffering and selfless dedication of the soldier which earned the country and the leaders that security and relief is being exploited. This is something I cannot forgive. They are NOT looked after well enough.

Something I never realised was raised by My3. He promised he would never use uniformed soldiers to work as servants of the Araliyagha Mandiraya or anyware else.

Have any of our dear commentators thought about this ?
Is that the way to show gratitude for our soldiers ?

  39. Ananda-USA Says:

    Lorenzo,

This comment of yours is MOST INTERESTING: “So RW will be IMPEACHED or changed by the parliamentarians. ”

So, the ENTIRE strategy of the UNHOLY “Common Opposition” HINGES UPON first getting Ranil W to join the fray to OUST President Mahinda Rajapaksa, and then LATER IMPEACHING Ranil W to OUST him with the help of Ranil W’s own allies who will magically Collaborate in the OUSTING!

I congratulate you; this is an amazingly convoluted and devious strategy worthy of Machiavelli himself!

However, it a a few, very few most likely, problems that I see.

So, let me fondly ask, has the “Common Opposition” bought into this Machiavellian strategy of yours already, or are they presently TOTALLY UNAWARE of it (except for those few who read LankaWeb), and it is circulating only within your own cranium?

Also, do you think that Ranil W will stay SUPINELY INACTIVE, while the political novice Palwatte Gamaralage Maithripala Yapa Sirisena who has hidden deep within the SLFP and somehow survived by avoiding controversy, orchestrates a campaign to gingerly maneuver Ranil W into getting IMPEACHED?

Or is it your contention, that Ranil W has suddenly realized the error of his ways, and metamorphosed into a HIGHLY PATRIOTIC sacrificial lamb and volunteered to be thus IMPEACHED?

You see where I am going with this, don’t you Lorenzo? This is ANOTHER OF YOUR CRACKPOT SCHEMES that will NEVER WORK in REAL POLITICS!

  40. Lorenzo Says:

    Ananda,

Good question. I hope you have studied GAME THEORY. All my strategies are based on game theory and payoff tables.

RW is NOT eyeing to become a 11 month PM (at most). The current parliament ends in early 2016 the very latest.

RW is eyeing to be the PM of the NEW parliament. For him, the motivation is this – IF MS wins and MR REFUSES to handover the party leadership to MS, UNP will get the advantage of MS’s win and win most seats at the GE.

You must appreciate RW and his UNP LOST ALL elections since 2004. For a party in THAT position, this is a LUCRATIVE proposition. What else can the UNP do to change it MISFORTUNES?

RW succeeds IF MR holds on to the SLFP without handing it over to MS after the election. Then UPFA will lose the GE and UNP will win. But IF MR gives up the SLFP leadership, UPFA will win a LANDSLIDE under MS.

Then comes CBK. She is crazy about getting back the SLFP. But IF MR holds on to the SLFP, she cannot get it back. But then UPFA faces defeat and ALL MPs will remove MR as the SLFP leader. And win the GE.

I leave it you to do a similar analysis IF MS loses.

So this is not a “crackpot” strategy. It was planned by someone who is a member of the TOP 1% SOCIETY (highest percentile in IQ).

BTW please answer my 8 questions.

  41. Lorenzo Says:

“My3. He promised he would never use uniformed soldiers to work as servants of the Araliyagha Mandiraya or anyware else.”

    WOW!

This man is good. Not the ordinary Gamerala.

BTW we had another Gamerala as president – DINGIRI BANDA WIJETUNGA.

I think he is the MOST HONEST and LEAST power greedy president ever. We need more of his calibre.

“Tikiri manike ampula gennalla gamaraala godata avilla”

  42. Independent Says:

Again, not Gamarala but Govirala in that song , unless you mean Tikiri Menike = Chandrika and want to make a story up..
People insult him using his surname, for the fact that he was a Grama Sewaka Niladhari these people will get results back.

No doubt. DB Wijethunga is the best. About the same time I endured thuggery of DM Jayaratne, I was encouraged by DB. He was just our minister those days. He invited me to dinner at his home and reversed my transfer which was forced upon me by our Director ( of a certain government department) who was famously corrupt. Later my senior was furious. he thought I used political favouritism. But I was not, DB understood that I was the only clean man there and he supported me.

  43. Ananda-USA Says:

Everyone should view the Indian Rajya Sabha TV video discussion of the upcoming Presidential Elections. There is a link to that youtube webpage on the LankaWeb homepage.

I would like to draw your attention to how these Indians hope the TNA would minimize Sri Lanka’s links to China, and their support for full-fledged Federalism within Sri Lanka.

If Palwatte Gamaralage Maithripala Yapa Sirisena wins, eliminates the powerful Executive Presidency of Sri Lanka, and hands over Sri Lanka’s Governance to traitors and separatists, the Ship-Jumpers of the SLFP and the JHU will have done through their JEALOUSY and STUPIDITY what the late unlamented Sun God, Velupillai Prabhakaran of the LTTE failed to achieve with 30-years of UNREMITTING murder and mayhem.

ALL ENEMIES of Sri Lanka are LICKING THEIR LIPS, in ANTICIPATION of eating TRIPE CURRY after disemboweling our Motherland!

And, if you think there is too much Foreign Interference in Sri Lanka’s INTERNAL AFFAIRS NOW, if the “Common Candidate for a 100 days” wins the Executive Presidency, Sri Lanka will become a VASSAL STATE of its enemies near and far.

Fortunately, come January 8, 2015, that particular NATIONAL DISASTER will be DEMOLISHED for ANOTHER 6-years!

  44. Independent Says:

I watched that video and the following is what I learned watching it.
How dare this big bully has assumed its superiority over us whilst there men have not taught how to respect women.

India treats us like one of their women thanks to our greedy politicians who have self-interest above the country.
This is evident throughout the discussion, yet, they do show some their own fear towards small parties who were with the president. It is also clear that the fearlessness earned being clean, honest and open will be the best tool to fight this out, rather than continuous release of their criminals to please Tamil Nadu jokers.

It is also evident that the war crime fear of the president has contributed immensely to our weakness due to continuing assumed guilt in fighting for deserved sovereignty of the nation.
For a mind liberated from political and personal preferences but focuses on how we fight this menace it is clear that the repeated election of the president is not going to help but will further enslave us to be considered as a another state on theirs.
The way this government is handling this whole affair is not going to change unless leadership is changed. Therefore it appears the election of a new leader will be the best for the country, in the current context.

  45. Cerberus Says:

Ms. Chandrika Kumaratunga is back at work. We remember…LEST WE FORGET

“I shall remember till the end of my days the morning when my 28 year-old son called me, sobbing on the phone to say how ashamed he was to call himself as Sinhalese and a Lankan, after he saw on the UK television a 50 minute documentary called Killing Fields of Sri Lanka which I also had the great misfortune of seeing. My daughter followed suit, saying similar things and expressing shock and horror that our countrymen could indulge in such horrific acts. I was proud of my son and daughter, proud that they cared for the others, proud that they have grown up to be the man and woman their father and mother wanted them to be.”

ARE YOU ALSO PROUD OF OUR YOUNG MEN WHO HAVE SACRIFICED THEIR YOUTH, LIFE AND LIMB TO PROTECT YOUR HIDES!
